4.3 Balancer issues Distrubutor install

Had the same thing on a vehicle a customer brought in swore to god up and down nobody has ever done anything to the truck except put the fuel pump.Was crank no start. There was spark and fuel pulse at the injectors. About 45-60 psi of fuel pressure. Would crank and sometimes backfire but no start. Replaced distributor and distributor cap complete assembly with new one could never ever get it to start. Would match up the marks with the timing cover and it would kickback so bad. Took off the timing cover and found out that harmonic balancer was either fucked or from completely different truck the timing marks were off by so much. Bought new balance. Put the distributor at the right position now thanks to new balancer and it turns on like a beauty. When i removed old harmonic balancer it was filled with silicone from behind. Never had anything done to the truck my ass. Took me forever to figure out oh and btw NO CODES ain't that a bitch.

Exactly what i was dealing with it was driving me crazy

Pull the timing cover off the old engine and line up the cam and crank, then set the cover back on and put the balancer back on and see where the notches are, then install the balancer with no notch on the old engine and use a paint marker to mark where the notches are supposed to be. Problem solved.

Aftermarket balancer I bet. Big blocks are also considered to be the 348 and 454 not the 350. 350 was a Small Block.

The marks are off because the balancer is failing (outer ring slipping). You need a new balancer. Using the old one - it will only get worse and your engine will run rougher and probably shake/vibrate more than normal. Not good for the crankshaft either.

Yeah the issue I had was trying to installer the distributor. I threw away the one with the marks off once i put one on that the marks where not 120 degrees off and installed distributor started right up and was good to go.

Seems to be wrong balanced. Just ordered one for 37$ new gm

if i were u i would either buy a $37 new harmonic balancer or just line it up to other one and take a ruler and make marks with a sharpie...But yes it makes no sense that balancer has no marks...

both balancers had marks one was 120 degrees out
