I could feel the pain in my arm. Just by looking at it being done to the girl. Not to mention it could be really easy to over do it to a partner/opponent and break something.

Interesting. I’ve always considered the triangle a move in and of itself like a kimura or arm bar. Here I begin to understand that the trap triangle is more of a position with many subs, like mount or guard which can utilize arm bars, kimuras, strangles, wrist locks etc. Complete change in mindset, thank you for the epiphany.

I very very rarely comment but. This video deserves it! I normally finish my triangles when I set them up but there were sometimes I couldn´t do it. This video helped me not only figuring how to finish them up in those situations I couldn´t finish before but also taught me to THINK of ways to manipulate the opponent´s body so I can either finish my set up triangle or transition to something else. Thank you very much.

Did not finish my triangle today... But your Videos help heaps! I used three tips in training today, which i got from your videos. Such a progress! Thank you for that. I was in a (loose) triangle and my opponent tried to stack me and I used your wiggle out - techniquie to create more distance, which helped. But in the end he did stack me and could pass, anyway. He had a lot more weight. Is there any other tip besides wiggling? :D Cheers!

I like top much how you can explain step by step and always you show respect and never make any and never create an injury to the sparring partner . I have a question do you think that working slowly and calmly helps to be able to work faster in any type of confrontation where speed increases with fear and adrenaline?
@TheGrapplingAcademy3 жыл бұрын
Start slow and then work up speed and intensity until injury becomes a factor then back off. It’s all a balance. 🥋🤙🏼Tom Davey

Do you have any tips to finish from the Overhook at closed guard ? I get to this position fairly often but can rarely evolve to a submission. Thanks, Cheers from Brazil
@TheGrapplingAcademy8 жыл бұрын
HI Fred, I love the overhook position from closed guard! In the gi, I work for the overhook arm in cross choke. By the time opponents give their attention to the choke, its often too late or they become vulnerable to triangles, omoplatas, armbars etc. In no gi, I use the overhook from closed guard more to set up arm in guillotines, omoplatas and triangles. If you are flexible, use the overhook to keep your partner's posture down and go for the gogoplata or locoplata like in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hauvqIVopr9sqa8 Enjoy (-:
@gregjennings94427 жыл бұрын
Fred Rodrigues : shove their far lapel down and grip it with the hand of your over hook arm. You are constantly threatening a cross choke by "Judo chopping" the neck on the near side, pulling both elbows down and tight, and compressing everything. The opponent will often get their far arm in close to break your grip, fight the choke, or whatever. You can then use your free hand to control it and push it to your gripping hand, and put a Kimura-ish grip on it. You then have great control and they are vulnerable to a triangle started by bringing your inside leg over their far shoulder. Being an old guy, and liking to slow down the game, it's one of my favorite setups. YMMV.

Hi great video. How about if your opponent stacks you or sometimes they'll stand up and toss the leg over. What do you recommend?
@TheGrapplingAcademy8 жыл бұрын
Good question Chris. The stack is mitigated through wiggling your shoulders backwards on the mat as you pull down on their head whilst if they stand, underhooking their knee leg is the ticket to hold them steady for the finish. Happy triangling (-: Coach Tom

If you could land and finish these every time why are you not UFC champion?
@Celokrat5 жыл бұрын
Because for one - not everyone wants to compete and take high risks of brain or any other kind of high physical damage, instead they prefer to live peacefully and help someone who wants to train and learn. For two - you might know and even demonstrate moves but when it comes to competition it's more than just knowledge & demonstration. For third - not everyone takes pleasure in damaging others. Some are masters of sports but don't go fighting as hard or/and as often as the UFC fighters.
