Hey tom just wanted to thank you, im close tog getting my blue belt now and in my last tourney i won 4 of my 5 matches all with submissions. Your setups and teaching is a big part of my game and just wanted to say thank you, congrats on the black belt its obviously deserved. Much love from the USA
All I can say is WOW! I've always known that angles make triangles, via switching your body perpendicular to their spine rather than being right under the opponent, but the little detail about getting their shoulder out of the equation makes a world of a difference, and takes the triangle to an entirely different level even for short legs. That switch triangle is something I've never seen before, I can't wait to try it. I've always immediately went for an ompoplata but it wasn't always successful. That kimura as a backup was the icing on top. I appreciate you sharing this knowledge! This is my favorite Jiu Jitsu channel as of now.

Omg coach Tom thank you so much! I’m only 5’5” but triangle has been a real weapon for me. That switch over, 2 kicks to a kimura has worked for me. Pls keep posting videos to help short guys like me they depends so much on leverage.

Awesome. I’ve been bless with short legs so moving to the side really helps. I’ve tried this several times but I can never get just one arm through.

Awesome video. Restarting my BJJ journey after putting on 70lbs in the pandemic. Finally got light enough to train regularly again and been at it 5 or so months. But... im 6'7" and crazy inflexible (working on that). So, anyone got any favorite submissions that length and strength can carry you? Triangles are definitely a go to and gonna try the techniques here for sure, but if any other long folks with knowledge would share advice, it'd be hugely appreciated 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 Happy rolling

Professor Tom, masterful videos, masterful teaching as always. I am a purple belt and I am revisiting triangle basics and details in my personal training (what I focus on aside from what my professor is currently teaching in class), and this video hits the spot. Thank you and will practice this tonight. Oss.

Great video as always Tom! A question, is there any different how you point your toes when you have looked the triangel. Toes pointed up to the roof? Or pointed straight straight forward to the wall. Hope you understand What i mean.
@TheGrapplingAcademy5 жыл бұрын
Although technically plantar flexing (pointed toes) enables easier locking, if you can, a dorsi flex in the feet is a much more secure hold! (-: Tom Davey

Great video and great information. Maybe next time show this technique with someone who actually has short legs against someone with broader shoulders. Hard to convince me how easy this is when you're 6'4 and your partner looks like he's 5'7 and 60lbs lighter. Just a thought,I mean no disrespect.
@Jesse18375 жыл бұрын
YES been waiting for this ❤️ Prof Tom
@thefullmonte19025 жыл бұрын
Tom, when you get perpendicular, try to "scrape" the partners shoulder with the inside of your knee. You will see, that often a full triangle lock isn't necessary - as this move pushes his shoulder into his arterie. This has done tons in my ability to finish. Also, it is important that the top leg is flush with the side of his throat. That can be achieved by a kick out, before bending. Often as an adjustment.
