This video was really challenging to make for me. As I was testing these fast food meals, I was asking myself if I'm doing the right thing. My body can't handle eating like this regularly. So I'm really looking forward to getting back to normal which in my case is having fast food only on “special occasions”. @@TypeOneTalks Hay TypeOneTalks Not really a reply to your post or specifically related to this video but im not sure how to reach out. I am Insulin Dependent Type 2 and In my country there is only 2 official CGMs they are the Dexcom G6 and Abbott Libre 2 CGMs however for type 2 they are incredibly expensive as in prohibitively expensive. I have come across a Chinese branded CGM called an AiDEX these can be purchased in the UK under the the name GlucoRX by memory and in NZ they are called AiDEX lite. from what i can see they are a hybrid type with similarities of abbott and dexcom g6 they have a transmitter that lasts 4 years and the sensor component comes in 2 models one lasts 10days the other lasts 14 days. the sensor portion comes with a patch and the battery is in the sensor unit not the receiver. these sensors from my experience seem to have far greater accuracy than the Libra. Now i am not affiliated with them just came across them on my own and i was wondering if i could get your opinion on them or perhaps do a video about them with your thoughts?

I want to share something with you that we discovered. Our son is a t1d and we have noticed that barometric pressure affects blood glucose levels. Please look in to this yourself, I am only stating our experiences. When the barometric pressure is high, blood glucose tends to run lower. When the barometric pressure drops, the blood glucose will spike. So what we do is add 10 to 20 percent onto the carb count when the pressure is low or dropping fast. If the pressure is high, we calculate the carbs normally. We have had great results managing our son's blood sugar. He was in range 86 percent and had a perfect a1c at his last doctor's appointment. There is something to this, and I suggest you research it more.

Being type 2 diabetic with young onset alzheimer's, diagnosed 7 years ago, remembering to take my medications, two different diabetic oral medications and insulin (despite sticky note reminders), I ended up in hospital and admitted to hospital with sugars of 35, yup 35! Coming out of hospital one of my visiting nurses at home suggested I watch you. Since my discharge, my sugars have been 5.9 to 7.9, but mostly in the 6's. What about after 24 or 48 hours? The immediate impact is pretty obvious within 1 to 3 hours (digestion, absorption, etc) however, in my 50 years as a T1D, I noticed some carb heavier foods, regardless of fiber, can be corrected on the same day then see an impact the day after and have to correct more than usual the next day, sometimes 2 days after. I realize everyone is different - just curious if this is something you experienced as well. I do want to offer a suggestion, if you happen to be in the US, try Pita Jungle. I usually get the "Keto Tofu Platter" which has griddled marinated organic tofu, broccoli, cabbage-kale super greens, and turmeric cauliflower rice. I order this without the tahini though. I noticed they completely stopped selling salads after COVID in the US. But they have an option to choose burgers without any bread and without any sauce added. They often come in with sugary ketchup, so I skip that always. If there is no option to skip the bread buns, they sometimes have a "low-carb" option (burger without bread). As for Starbucks, for me it's either cappuccino without sugar or just black coffee with some almonds

I apologize if you're previously done a video on this cuz I am a relatively new sub to your channel...but the basic premise is you can take 2 identical meals (e.g. steak, mashed potatoes, and broccoli) and if you at meal #1 like normal (bites of everything throughout the meal) and then eat meal #2 the following way, broccoli first, then steak, then potatoes, you glucose spike is dramatically different? I started doing this in general and noticed a big difference in how little spiking I get...anyways, I'd be glad to find the videos on this and share...with your approach to these fun concepts, would love to see you do it in your style and approach...anyways, keep up the great work, I appreciate you!

Good video, and glad you pointed out how terrible most foods are for glucose control. The nutritional values are an estimation to what should be in the food you are eating, but will hardly ever be accurate to what you get when eating out. Healthy options are very limited at most places, so it can be frustrating as a diabetic. You can always request to remove or replace items in the meal to make it a better option. Exercising before or after eating while out and about isn't convenient, but it's certainly possible. Basically: if it's less than three grams of fiber per serving, don't eat it. Avoid fried foods since the fat will make glucose control difficult. Also, excessive protein will convert to glucose, which can be a problem there or more hours later for your glucose. As for coffee, decaffeinated is the way to go or at least an option with less caffeine (since it will spike BS). Low fat, no sweetener options are the best, because even "sugar-free" will still raise BS. Be careful out there and enjoy your life.

Thank you! Some people think all the fat is good for us. Do you ever experience your blood sugar increase after activity
@Cyborkirk6 ай бұрын
@@ProudCanadian-vv6bk The release of glycogen can happen with any exercise, but it's more common with resistance training. Glycogen is made in the liver, and stored in muscle. I usually exercise when I still have insulin on board, but if I don't, I need to take some while lifting. I am still learning about this, so don't take my word for it.

Thanks for another informative video. I am still puzzled by the "low" blood sugar in a meal eaten by me a few days ago. An Arby's French Dip (beef, Swiss cheese, and soft white roll) with a huge (42 oz) regular (not sugar free) Dr. Pepper; my blood sugar was only 115. Most regular meals I have (type 2, no medication) at home are a 130-140 blood sugar 2 hrs after eating; with water, no soda, and no white bread, but also had not eaten prior to this. Do you have any clue about this?
@franciscomartinez31296 ай бұрын
I've noticed that, personally, anytime I eat any fast food it raises my blood sugar for over 3 hours! Granted, it'll usually peak at 165-185 (depending on what I eat) but, of it stays that high and 4 hours later it's time to eat again, I'll usually have to eat a salad in order to make sure that it drops by bedtime.
@marshcreek43556 ай бұрын
As always, a very nice and helpful video. Whenever you drop another video it's invaluable to my health journey. However, I'm confused about the question of saturated fat raising your blood sugar. One of the hot things going on these days for many people in including my wife :-) for blood sugar control is the keto diet - high saturated fat and low carb. Many of the influencers even say as a means of blunting blood sugar spikes is to add things like a full fat dressing e.g. olive oil, avocado oil, etc. to salads, meals, etc. Yet, your take is that saturated fats are specifically raising your blood sugar. Is there a consistent ethic in these recommendations? Or is it just how your body after years of analysis and experience responds to it?
@TypeOneTalks6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment. I believe there is truth in both of these arguments and maybe we all make a mistake of simplifying our argument and not sharing the other half. It is correct that fat slows down blood sugar spike caused by carbs. But it is also true that high amounts of saturated lead to reduced insulin sensitivity and increased insulin resistance in a longer time frame. Insulin resistance is a problem in all forms of diabetes because it negatively impact our body's ability to move glucose from bloodstream to cells where it is needed.

What I don’t understand is portion size. I have been diagnosed type 2 recently and I’m still grappling with the change in diet(60 years of eating whatever I like is hard to change over night). Also I think the biggest ‘crime’ you can accuse fast food chains with is the amount of sugar in almost every step of their recipes.
@jwebbw12 күн бұрын
I look at the glycemic index food chart and then try to eat foods that have a lower glycemic index rating. I try to stay below 50 for the most part, but if you're eating down around 10 to 30, then once in a while you can eat something around 60. It all averages out in the end.
@CarbageMan6 ай бұрын
I used to get the Chipotle burrito bowl as a salad, but I found out they _always_ put disgusting seed oils in the food, so I stopped going there altogether. If you check it out, you'll find that the saturated fat _in the natural food_ doesn't have the same effect that the seed oils and trans fats you're consuming have. As a bonus, they come with proteins that (in type 2) help lower blood sugar by prompting a healthy insulin response. Physical activity literally pushes blood sugar into the muscles, which is what you're experiencing, since you don't really _have_ a significant insulin response, as a type 1 observer. Similarly, fiber doesn't lower blood sugar. It delays the rise in blood sugar caused by the other ingredients. PS: The best fast food for diabetes is the McDonald's 1/4 pound burger patty, x 3 or 4. PPS: As for balsamic vinaigrette, I make my own with the least sugary balsamic I can find and I also cut that with apple cider vinegar. I adjust for the lack of sweetness with liquid stevia. I'm planning to cut all the sweeteners out with the exception of allulose, because of its blood-sugar _lowering_ properties. Allulose is actually a sugar molecule that your body only absorbs by about 1/10, but it causes a liver response that has a net negative glucose effect. I'm type 2, so your mileage may vary.

When I get them, I throw away half the roll from the burger and I make an open face stack of 4 burgers, lettuce and tomato. The half roll is 15 grams of carbs. The meat and cheese have minimal carbs. So I get lots of protein and fat from the cheese! No blood sugar spike!

Does McDonald's accept orders with no bun and with extra lettuce and tomato? I have never even thought of trying to ask them about that, but I do order two burgers and then throw away all the expensive glutenfree buns except one.

I’ll bring my own low carb bread and change out the buns or bread at restaurants, I have brought my own keto tortillas to change out the ones on burritos at Taco Bell and the breakfast burrito at Burger King. No love lost. McDonald’s will even put the Mac sauce on the side if you ask them, so you don’t have to use it, but it is quintessential Big Mac!

Great video! How did you eat the guacamole from Chipotle? With chips? On the burrito bowl?

@@OnlyCalvesLife I've had chips from a regional chain called Margaritas. It looks good on the CGM at first, but after the numbers start to drop, they shoot back up over 200 for an hour or two. I just put the guac on the quesadilla now and enjoy it that way! Chips are bad news for me in general if I want to stay below 180.

You could just skip the carbs by eating at a fast food place like Buffalo Wild Wings and getting non-breaded wings. An additional plus is that they cook the wings in beef tallow instead of seed oils. You would have to take care to not use a sweet or sugar added sauce though.

T2D, Just got my A1C down to 5.8 (down from 7.1, 12.8 before that). Strategy is huge, and having a go-to option at any restaurant can be a big help. Always gotta pay attention to how your body reacts to different things, and at different times. Something as simple as shifting the bulk of my carb intake earlier in my day I was able to lower my overall glucose levels. But everyone's body will react differently. Isolate variables, test, measure, and document.

Ill hive ya a restaurant option, just a big steak with a water or from McDonalds, 6 to 8 meat patties. Ill also recommend watching Dr. Bernstein.

Can you drink some fiber, like metamucil, to help with the sugar spike?
@indranidasgupta89823 ай бұрын
I don’t take insulin. I’m a Type 2. I do 2MAD around 3pm and 8pm. I drink a glass of water with a 1/2 tsp of apple cider vinegar before I eat my biggest meal. Has the same effect. But make sure you drink plain water after you take the apple cider vinegar… or just rush some plain water around your mouth.

The largest food for me to give up is cake. So which is more harmful, sugar free cake mix or keto / cab free cake. I don't eat it much but I chose sugar free cake mix. So which one would be better if you have to chose one? Most of the sugar free has sugar alcohol which makes me gassy but I live alone so no one to offend.
