I just placed it on my right chest, 3 finger width under collarbone, in line with nipple. (sensor just fell off of back of arm). So far, this is my favorite spot. Accurate readings, very comfortable, east to scan. Not feeling like I will bump into things. I put on my most used bra and chose a place that the strap would not interfere. So far, so good.

So I'm a full time student, I'm active I sweat allot, I'm an active biker. Where do you recommend? I can't do place it on my stomach ( personal reasons).

@@RiTa-ky9qg Although it isn't recommended by the FDA (it is allowed in the European market), I place it on my chest, about 3-4 fingers below my collarbone, but not in the way of my bra. It does show but I dont care. The key is prepping the skin. Wash with soap, shave area and then I use an apricot scrub, its gritty but does the trick. Then I place the sensor. They will misread on occasion. Call Abbott and they'll send a free replacement.

I am only new to Freestyle Libre as when I found out you needed to put it in your arm, I chose to use the sensor that goes with my pump. But I hated that so I decided to look into the Libre a bit more and see if you could use it in other places. That's how I found your videos and they inspired me to try it on the chest. I actually find the readings more accurate than in the arm! I also found that my bra strap would catch on the sensor when it was on my arm and I was getting dressed but its not a problem at all on the chest. Thank you for the videos, they are very helpful.

Recently i was involved in a bad accident where both my arms and legs suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns. I could still place the sensor on my left arm, however the discomfort and pain on those areas was already too high. I found this video and used the chest for the first time this week since being burned. IT IS AWESOME. No pain and i can accurately measure my sugars again! Thank you for this so much.

Hi, Sahil here from India! This is by far the best location to apply the sensor for me. I used to struggle with the arm placement of sensor as it would always knock off and barely make it for 4/5 days. In fact i'd stopped using the sensor solely because of this reason. And then I came across this video series. Im writing this review as I apply my 3rd sensor here, after 2 successful attempts, also a thing to note is that is spot is actually better at accuracy compared to the arms. I apply it on the left side of the chest, as shown in the video, and I'm a lefty that plays badminton 5 days a week, even with all that movement and sweat, the sensor stays! Thanks @Type One Talks for recommending this location and easing my misery.

I'm so glad you did this video. I've been using the official location for several years, and even though I find it comfortable, I get way too many compression misreading, which is quite annoying and ends up gathering less realistic cumulative data. Chest seems to Bean ideal alternative for me. I have to put on a new one in a few hours and I'm definitely going to give this a try. Thanks.

I had all but given up on the Freestyle Libre because it kept falling off from the back of my upper arm. I'm a large man with very wide shoulders, and large muscular arms and I routinely would knock the sensor off my arm. Door frames, and getting in and out of cars would often result in knocking the sensor off. I have since started using my chest with great results. The numbers from the chest are very close to finger sticks when I tested them during the beginning. My endocrinologist was a bit annoyed but he saw the consistency of readings and results that mirrored my A1c.

I've recently had four failed sensors in a row (one of them bent and did not even go in my skin, the other stopped scanning at day 10, two of them giving me extremely low readings where the reading was not even a number, it said "LO") 😑 and they were all on the back of the arm. These were combinations of libre 1 and libre 2. I was very terrified of trying the chest area just because it seemed very sensitive. But by watching this video, you gave me courage and I have placed it where you indicated would be a good spot. (Also took ladies advices from the comments and wore my bra so it doesn't bother the strap). I am waiting for the one hour wait time but because there was no pain at all, I will be surprised if the needle didn't bend! Thank you and hopefully this will become my favourite spot~~ 😊

Ready to try anything else! Watched several of your videos looking for alternatives and am going to try the chest today. (I don't see how you don't get compression issues with it on the back of the thigh.) I'm type 2 well-controlled, so the CGM is really to teach me about modifying my eating. I've learned SO MUCH using it! Timing, and combining foods has made a huge difference for me. I've been binge-watching your videos for the last hour now and will probably come back again later today. Thank you Tom for your videos. I've only been a type 2 diabetic for about 6 years. Just started using the freestyle libre 2 in January of this year 2022. I have been putting them on the back of my arm and I have knocked 3 sensors off, had 1 come off due to sweating and didn't even know I lost it until I went to scan sensor. The one I just put on the back of my arm has made my arm feel bruised when I'm lying in bed. I'm probably going to remove this one and try the chest with the replacement sensor. Keep up the great work you do by testing these different things with the sensors.

Thank you for the video! I have been using the Libre system for about 3 years. I had trouble with the sensor when placed on the tricep area. It stays secure, no problems transmitting signal, and I also wear a sleep bra without issue.

Received new 14 day system late yesterday. After watching your video I decided to place the sensor on my upper chest, right side, approx 2.00" south of clavicle and about 1/2" to the right (outboard) of nipple centerline. never felt a thing. Five readings through the evening / night. They compared favorably with my glucose meter. Anywhere from 5-10% lower than BM. Great. Take my overnight fasting reading this morning with BM. 122. CGM is 49. Take another CGM minutes later. "LO". Took 5-6 readings through morning and all were very low as compared to BM. And I knew from experience they were erroneous. Even with the previous evening's good numbers, each one had that symbol of needing to use a test strip. Long story short. After almost 1.5 hrs with customer spt, I have a new sensor on the way. The extended time was due to twice losing phone connectivity after a 35 minute and 25 minute wait. I have another sensor and will likely place it to the opposite chest side this evening. Short of arm placement, I followed the instructions precisely. I'll go with the upper arm if needed. Am anticipating same deal assuming both sensors are of the same lot. After telling one of the spt staff that all was well prior to going to bed, he stated that the tip of the probe is easily bent which will pretty much render the sensor useless. Thanks
@logan15723 жыл бұрын
Not there yet but hoping this CGM will work out. Replacement sensor is on its way (quickly arrived today). I actually prefer my android phone app over the 70.00 reader. Thought it would be more robust but find it to be a waste if a person has the app. Perhaps I don't know enough about it yet to appreciate it however I don't feel that's the case. Until a day or so ago I had no idea that the phone app automatically uploaded the data to LibreView whereas the reader must be umbilicalled to PC, etc. Hoping for an insignificant difference between arm sensor placement and upper chest placement. I did find a test within the NIH which showed an acceptable accuracy with the sensor on the thigh vs the arm. It didn't specify precise location on the thigh which I found odd. They weren't impressed with placement on the abdomen. The test was with an Abbott Libre product. I'm trying to find confirmation that interstitial fluid is the same across the human body. One MD (Dr. Steven Edelman) implies that's so however I have no idea as to his knowledge, skills, and abilities. And I have yet to discover why Abbott chose the arm. I do feel other locations are discouraged and frowned upon due the probability that the FDA "blessed" the products which were tested only with the back of the arm. Thanks

Chest is my site of choice and it has been for about 2 years. I am an ultra runner. I've lost so many sensors during my longer ultra runs, especially in the rain. They just seem to fall off at this location. I've not even noticed some of them were gone until I went to scan and nothing happened. Then I discovered the sensor had fallen off. The first time this happened, I did not have a back-up finger stick option with me. I was so sure that the sensor would work well. I had to run the last 65 miles with no way of knowing my blood glucose level other than by feel. Not optimal. Since I've gone to chest placement, I've never had a sensor fail or fall off. Even when backpacking with a 45 pound or 20 kilo pack in hot summer months. The pack straps did not bother it or me. I do tend to keep my sensor placement inboard of your zone. My area of placement is about the outer half of yours, more distal. Thanks for your review. Keep up the great work. PEACE

Unfortunately, due to Fibromyalgia (particularly painful in upper arms), plus lying down many hours of the day (ME/CFS), and sleeping on my side (unfortunately favour that arm), I was having a lot of problems trying to find a spot on upper arm that wouldn't be painful. The chest is perfect spot. Much easier to scan while lying down. Will be so much easier to remove in 2 weeks, can see what I'm doing.

How did the accuracy compare to the upper arm?
@timpedzinski2303 жыл бұрын
I am by no means an expert when it comes to FSL. This is only my second sensor with the system. First was the upper arm and I was amazed with just how well it tracked my BS. I placed it a little to far out on my arm and that made me worry that I might knock it off but that didn't happen. What did happen is after 9 days it failed and would no longer give me an accurate reading. After a call to the company they said they would send me a replacement. I haven't received that yet but it should arrive soon. From watching the videos I decided chest looked much better (safer) as far as not catching it on something. One thing I have noted in the past 3 days is this location seams to have a greater lag time from eating to a reading and after a corrective injection it takes a long time before I see the results on the meter. It's like my train just got 3 times longer from change to result. Next sensor will be more on my inner upper arm. I just wonder if others have seen a difference in lag time with sensor placement.

I suffer from diabetic adhesive capsulitis in my left shoulder and even putting on or taking off my shirt is tough enough already without having to worry about knocking off the sensor. Additionally I use backpacks a lot and because of my left shoulder already have a tough time with the straps. So I am eager to find an alternate.

My favorite location is also chest for all the reasons mentioned. I would like to add that, when placed on the upper arm, the high glucose error is about 1.0 mmol/L difference with blood glucose. As the readings get closer to 4.0 mmol/L the error becomes negligible. When placed on my chest just above and to the left of my left nipple, my high glucose reading error is more in the 0.5 mmol/L. I'm leaning on, more accurate than the upper arm. The greatest effect on accuracy seems to be the pressure used to install the sensor. It requires a firm push, but pressure must not push the sensor in the skin, as I think this damages the wire. I know when I used to do this to help adhesion, my arm hurt for several seconds. I'm guessing the wire is going beyond the interstitial tissue into the muscle. Just a guess as when I used lite pressure there is no pain and readings are better.

I've lost 2 sensors on my arm in the last 2 months. One fell off early and the other was knocked off pulling a shirt off over my head. I already asked for a replacement for the one that fell off 3 days early and am embarrassed to ask for another one this early. I will be placing my next one on my chest, but have noticed that it will be directly inline with the shower head. I have ordered some waterproof patches to cover it with. No matter where I end up placing it I will have a patch to cover it with as I am not impressed with the durability of the sensors. I love it when it's on, but have had poor luck keeping it on. It would seem an easy fix to put about a half inch more of adhesive around the sensor to keep them on longer. 40 patches were about $11 that gives me about 3 inches more adhesive. I dread having to remove one of those when it is done. I use baby oil to get them off, but it still takes about 10 minutes to keep from tearing my skin off under my arm.

CAUTION, obviously Freestyle recommend site positioning for a reason - The chest area is NOT one of them. Very disappointed, I hope those who choose to try this out do Not end up like me.👎🏻😠

Well tbh i have that problem too but tried only my arm so far. About 2 weeks with fsl. Tried 2 sensors so far and one made it for 1 day, another one made it for 5 days. Replace sensor and place new one... :D almost forgot, how is it with abbott sending replacements?

I use the chest area as well. I have large breast and have not had any discomfort with putting on or removing my clothes. The biggest issue is other people's curiosity ( doesn't bother me).

Never felt putting on before, but damn my upper left chest hurt! Female and NOT skinny by any definition . Won’t let that stop me if the site works as well for me as for others. I have persistent Uticaria due to Mast Cell Disease, so never wear a bra anyway. Thank you so much for posting. We Type IIs learn from you, also!

Tom, we only have libre 1 here in Brazil and the sensor is a lot bigger than 2 and 3. I tried getting in touch with Abbott to know when the other sensors will be in my country. They don't answer my emails. Not so serious around here. I enjoy all your vídeos. Thank you

T2D here and I am due to change my sensor in a few days and I am planning to do the chest site. I have had a myriad of failures over the last year, including bleeding THRU the hole in the sensor and it taking over 9 hours to clear. I am hoping that it will be a good site for use as I am paying for every one out of pocket with no insurance at the moment. Normally to keep it on my arm, I use a Sim Patch to keep my sensors in place because I am extremely clumsy.

Its my first time using a CGM. I was concerned about sensors falling out because I'm paying for mine out of pocket. I decided to try my chest for my very first monitor. I read all the comments and grew a bit concerned that people said it hurt and there was blood. I stood in my bathroom for 30 minutes worried about how bad this was going to hurt. I finally worked up the nerve and pressed the plunger in. I had to laugh because i didnt feel a thing. All that worry for nothing. 😂 Ladies - I placed mine on the left side about two inches down from my collar bone. (I even used a tape measure! 😂) It is placed just above the fleshy part where the boob starts. It didnt hurt. In fact, i didnt feel any poke at all. Good luck to my fellow scaredy cats! ❤

I'm so glad for this video. I need a new place because the upper arm is in the way when I want to take off my bra, as the straps always catch on it. I don't care if people can see it. As long as it stays put and doesn't get in the way.

Hello Tom, this is an older video but very informative. I have seen some of your other video's where you have used the Freestyle Libre 3 and that is the one that I am getting. Have you had similar results with placing the Libre 3 on your thigh and chest? Or do you only put the Libre 3 on your upper arm?

Why has it not been approved to use other places besides the back of arm? I always get and error and may have to scan 2 or 3 times to get a reading. But on my chest I didn’t get errors.

Maybe I put it in the wrong place... But, when I put it on my chest, I had nothing but false low alarms going off constantly... Until 3:00am when I finally got fed up and took it off. Perhaps where I put it didn't have enough fat..? I don't know, but it didn't seem to work for me.

I'm non insulin Type 2 diabetic. I've been using Libre14 day, upper arm, always left arm, for about 2 years. (ANYTHING is better than pricking my finger!) The Libre worked fabulously, until it didn't! The last few months, the libre and I had smooth sailing and accurate results for 10 days and then my readings would be consistently scary low at night, I'd do a finger prick in the morning and always got at least 20-30mg/dl above what my libre was reading and I was always in the normal zone. Also, during the last four days of sensor life my daytime numbers were low and not accurate. (So weird because for 10 days I did NOT get wonky readings during the night or day.) I'm trying on my chest, just applied and hoping I can get a full 14 days of accurate use of the libre because I am self paying for these devices and HATE finger pricks. Rookie mistake first time instillation, I installed a little lower and more to the middle, that will change next time I put on my libre. Not painful, actually feels more secure than the sensor on my arms ever did. I always use a covering over my libre to make sure it stays on-emotionally scarred from bumping into those dang door ways and losing a sensor! (LOL) Thanks for your videos. I subscribed and am a big fan of your videos and your humor! Thanks!

Just tried the chest placement. Didn't feel it attaching. Upper arm - 1 fell off, another was bad, #3 lasted 14 days, 4th must have hit a nerve - very uncomfortable. Like the chest idea. Put the clear patch over it. Waiting on the hour setup now.

How did the accuracy compare to the upper arm?
@bloomingpincushion55863 жыл бұрын
Its pretty accurate and I don't need to keep my distance from door frames. Comfort level is different. It itches underneath the sensor from time to time. 🤔

I just put my sensor on my chest like you said, the last one (my very first senor) was on my arm in the recommended place. It was painless on my arm but fell off after 8 days. The sensor I just placed on my chest hurt really bad when I applied it. I felt the needle very much. It's placed within the range you mention. Do you have pain at the chest site? I may just stay with the arm site, it didn't hurt at all.

I am using the dexcom g6 and I really want to try it out on my chest, as I always knock it off on my arm or have trouble with it sticking on my abdomen. I know this is for libre but do you happen to know or have ever used the G6 sensor in that area? I'm new to the dexcom and cgm in general and because I'm paying out of pocket for these sensors I am afraid to try it and not have it work and be down a sensor. Thanks for what you do!

For months now, I have been considering trying the chest. But I am afraid of it because I use to switch between shoulders while sleeping. Could there be problems while sleeping on the shoulder?
@carriecoughlin6928 Жыл бұрын
I use it in my chest after watching this video and I am a restless side sleeper. I flip every 10 minutes due to shoulder injuries. I'm on my 3rd sensor in my chest and have not lost any of them early. I do find that application in my chest hurts a little but goes away in about an hour. I am female and I do have a demanding job in construction so I do have alot if muscle in my chest. The readings are much more accurate than in my arm. I hope this helps! I use libre 3 .

So I am new to the Libre 2 (on my 4th sensor). I tried it on my chest this time about two fingers-width below my collar bone. I also used an adhesive wipe this time for added "stickiness". Right from the start, I've been getting unusual readings. The first night I had it activated, I had at least 5 low alerts, and during the day is has been running on average at least 20 points higher than any of me previous sensors (with no dietary change). Any thoughts on what might be going on?
