4 Ways Hyundai's Veloster N DCT Outperforms The Manual Transmission Version
Hyundai Veloster N DCT Features vs 6MT - Sponsored by Hyundai.
Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - goo.gl/VZstk7
The 2021 Hyundai Veloster N has stepped up the game, especially with the 8-speed DCT. It now features N Grin Shift, N Power Shift, N Track Sense Shift, and launch control. Now these may sound like video game features, but that’s kinda what Hyundai is going for here with the experience, and the good news is each of these features actually have tangible performance improvements that they provide for the car. From a performance standpoint, these features set the dual clutch Veloster N apart from the manual transmission version.
N Grin Shift
The whole idea of N Grin Shift is to temporarily give you more performance. Pressing a button on your steering wheel allows your engine to increase boost for up to 20 seconds!
N Power Shift
This feature alone reduces the 0-100 kph time (or 0-62 mph time) by 0.2 seconds. It's like power shifting in a manual transmission, except you've got a wet, multi-plate clutch to handle the driveline shock!
N Track Sense Shift
N Track Sense Shift is a predictive shift logic that’s based on how you’re driving. If you start driving more aggressively, the system matches the gearbox response to your driving style. If you’re accelerating hard, turning at higher g’s, and braking hard, the system is going to use the most aggressive gear shift strategy possible.
Launch Control (DCT)
Now there’s another cool feature that differentiates the DCT model from the manual transmission, and that’s launch control. Both transmissions offer launch control, but there are several advantages with the DCT. It employs five techniques, which we'll break down in this video, to execute a powerful launch.

Nothing wrong with CVT, its fantastic technology. In fact its so good it was banned from F1 in 1992. I know if i get a new auto shift semi ill get better fuel economy and in all measurable ways they are superior to the old manuals, but I prefer driving the manual so its what I do every day.

@@AshtonCoolman I agree, I prefer manual as stated in my post. My point is in the objective world cvt is a fascinating and wonderful technology. Our preference for the manual is subjective enjoyment. Driving my 10 speed non-sychronized Eaton every day costs me money, roughly 15 grand a year over a modern auto shift. I still do it because I enjoy driving it, not because I think its better in any objective way.
@AshtonCoolman

@@jaydunbar7538 subjective enjoyment of a car is an important factor of car ownership. When cars become fully automated and self driving then we'll only have to care about the comfort of the interior. I run a lot of HPDE. And I've driven many cars on different tracks. The DCT in quite a few of them could yield faster lap times. But that's not the main reason I do this. I do it because I enjoy every aspect driving my car to its limit. Good outcome or bad, I control the car. Not the other way around. As my lap time gets better, it's because I am breaking more effectively, shifting more efficiently, turning in and out of Corners smoother. As in life, it's not about the destination , it's about the journey.

What is the maintenance schedule for the dual clutch transmission? Every 3 years? How about under heavy usage? How much does the DCT maintenance cost? I was shopping a VW Golf GTI with dual clutch but learned the maintenance was over $1,000 each time, not including replacement parts if needed. Bravo to Hyundai if they’re doing it better, but I’d insist on seeing the data before buying.

unless you are literally racing, there is no point in using the launch control. racing should not be done on public roads at all, so outside of a trackday/drag strip night, its a completely useless feature. plus, if you are trying to win streetlight battles, its the wrong car to begin with lol. no hate, i love my first gen veloster turbo 6MT, but if you are trying to win races bad enough to use a launch control feature, trade in the veloster for something with a lot more stock horsepower.

Too bad most German premium cars already went back to torque converter transmissions. Tbh, for most applications a good ZF auto transmission is just the better choice. BUT, for sporty driving there is no doubt that DCT is the most fun, right after mt

@@flowjob3813 Yeah i know right that kind of sucks but yeah for a lower end german sports car a zf 8 speed is fine but anything RS series or M series should IMO have a dct instead. I keep thinking how do I break, how much force do I apply, are the cars next to me going to move over because I'm in their blind spot, does the car behind me have enough space if I break hard in case of an emergency, when should I turn so I can get the perfect turn both to feel comfortable and to stay within the road markings, etc.. etc...

J .. Happy Christmas to you and yours. I wonder if you'd consider doing a video on why most manufacturers seem reluctant to build a diesel hybrid. (Merc build a full diesel hybrid in Europe while Audi build a mild hybrid). Shouldn't it be more prevalent considering that it may be the next step in truck engines ? (rather than going directly to electric). A Euro 6 diesel with SCR is just as clean as a petrol engine and is far more fuel efficient.

I have a 2019 Kia Soul! Turbo 1.6L with a 7sp DCT. Most of the time I drive old and slow, but I love surprising people and that powershift is almost too much fun. 100K mile factory warranty on the driveline. I plan on getting something else before the warranty runs out. I'm not paying that repair bill for two new clutches. lol.

I have to say that "N power shift" "technology" is pretty funny... not cutting engine power during shifts is how every automatic transmission worked until DBW engines came along. And re launching on a DCT vs. traditional manual transmission, what you say about the "abuse tolerance" of single-plate dry vs. multi-plate wet clutches makes sense, but consider that replacing a traditional clutch is a whole lot easier and cheaper than rebuilding the clutches on a DCT.

Hyundai does some...interesting....things with their transmissions. Not always for the better. The 6-spd conventional automatic in my 18 Elantra seems to electronically reduce throttle during gear transitions, I assume to reduce wear on the clutch packs and perhaps smooth the shifting.
@ThatOddLife
@ThatOddLife 3 жыл бұрын
They also have a ton of lag in the manuals as well, heel-toe shifting is pretty much impossible, the throttle is electronic and doesn't let you get too aggressive.. I had a 15 forte with the 2.0 and a 6MT and ran into this issue often.

@@ThatOddLife I hate electronically controlled throttles. They often don't feel like they're calibrated accurately and give an artificial feeling. I think they are one of the worst automotive technologies made commonplace in car over the last 20yrs.

I know it’s not really long term, but I’ve owned my Veloster N (2020 performance pack, should be the same engine as the 2021 model) for a year now (6600 miles) and haven’t had a single issue with engine. The only issue I had was that there was a rattling coming from the rear view mirror (something was broken inside). The dealer was able to fix it without an issue though. Overall I am very happy with mine. :D
