In my church, and I suspect many others, the greatest challenge is convincing leadership that a security team is required at all.

I might add, after--hopefully that will take place--you convince the leadership that security is needed, impress on them that this needs to be discussed with the entire church family. There's nothing (after pastoring for 35 years) that will dislodge a church family faster than springing something new...from the few. Everyone should be on board with security. That tip or sighting or whatnot just might come from that little blue-haired sister who quietly sits in the back! On another note, do you have a forum of regular church meetings where 'new business' can be brought up? I'm not saying to circumvent your leaders, but maybe introducing that 'new business' in a meeting would get them moving.

I can agree with everything said except #3. If I have to draw my weapon it's because of the threat. And I will discharge it in self defense with the intention of destroying and ending the threat. The time to think about it is before you have to use it, not during the time you have to use it. @

I never leave for church without making sure everything I carry is adjusted properly. I wear a vest and everything must fit correctly with the vest on. Not only do I practice dry firing with a draw from the holster, but before I leave for church I draw 5 times. This tells me I've adjusted everything properly. I learned a long time ago that my gun should only be used as the very last resort. After everything thing else has be tried. Presents, talking, commands, etc., it's the last resort. However, circumstances alter cases. It all depends on the situation and what's happening.

Great advice.👍 I'm of the mindset that show of presence is the frontline of defense. If we show that we have security on hand that'll deter more potential aggressions against us than looking like a "easy target". Quick and easy crimes can be avoided with more effectiveness when viable defensive barriers are clearly visible (with limitations) to the would-be threat. I understand that this topic has different trains of thought, both with equally valid points, but I believe showing you are willing and capable to defend yourself will avoid a large portion of ill-intended actions. "You've fought your duel and won, that is good. It is better to not have had to fight to begin with." Thanks for keeping us informed!

I have been carrying my Byrna non-lethal launcher lately (loaded with Kinetic rounds). It packs a pretty decent punch and could stop an attacker until a team member with a firearm can get involved. Of course, it could get me killed too.

Anybody that wanted to be on our safety team at church and showed up with a weapon not in a holster, would not be on the team. That is a definite sign of someone that should not be carrying a firearm.

In our church we have a member assigned to monitor the entrance who is armed but who also has a remote panic button for the alarm system. In an ideal situation he would spot an assailant before he/she even entered the church and the alarm sounding would hopefully scare them off before they ever got a chance to engage him or either of the other 2 armed members in the sanctuary.
@ChurchSecurityAnswers

Hey Michael, sounds like a great plan! Thank you for sharing. What brand panic button do you folks use for this?
@mwalsh5757
@mwalsh5757 Жыл бұрын
@@ChurchSecurityAnswers The alarm system is Resideo (Honeywell). The remote is keychain style and has arm/disarm/panic buttons. I actually would have preferred a portable “big red button” that was just for sounding the alarm 🚨 or one that also dialed 911 or the alarm company dispatch, but I guess nothing like that exists just to call for police assistance. The sound of the alarm is also the notification that the congregation should head for their evacuation points or shelter in place.

Good day to you Joe, Would you please comment on how open a command center should be? Currently we have our surveillance monitors set up in our command center (4' X 15' room) along with our first aid supplies. We also have our lost and found and a catch all table in this room. It seems to me that we would want to keep this room available only for our safety team's needs. Any comments? Please advise. p.s. Thank you for your ministry.
@ChurchSecurityAnswers
@ChurchSecurityAnswers Жыл бұрын
Hey David, great question. My first thought is that at least during church time like from 30 minutes before church until after church. is over, that room should be for security people or leadership only. You don't want a bunch of traffic in there during the times your monitor person needs to be focused on cameras, etc. and the security team needs to be doing their thing. First aid supplies to me, seem to go along with your program and would need to be accessed rarely. Space is a big deal at churches I know, and maybe that is the only place for lost and found and this catch all table. However, I would try to get that moved if there was any other place for it, just to keep that room focused on security and cameras, during the important service times. Thank you for watching and asking a great question.

Joe when’s the last time u sprinted 100 yards did 20 burpees then fired at a moving target or even a stationary target ? Your what belt in jui jitsu? Let me guess hypertension meds and maybe a diabetic? When USA aircraft carriers show up in ur region its force displayed ! Gaining tactical advantage mentally over the enemy will reduce the need for force protection physically.

Hey David, thanks for watching and commenting! I always say respect our leadership at church. This is a tough one when the Pastor is making this rule. I would have to pray hard about what to do in this situation......for me though, I would still respect the leaderships decisions when in their place, but I might have to find a new place......thats just me. We need to be safe in these difficult times.

We have someone on the team who carries in a holster that does NOT cover the trigger. I know and the chairman knows it is not safe. How do we sit down with the person and get it resolved? Frankly, I am not sure if it is a money thing or a lack of concern thing.
@chriscrawford3809
@chriscrawford3809 Жыл бұрын
I would sit him down man to man and tell him why it’s unsafe with a few examples/scenarios of why it can be dangerous. Just a few off the top of my head would be if he has to grab and pick up kids or escort, small kids to safety in a evacuation scenario the child could unknowingly reach up and pull the trigger. Another he has to go hands on and the assailant grabs for his gun and inadvertently pulls the trigger. If he still unsafe holster, you have no choice, but to not allow him to serve on your team. As a team leader myself that’s what I would do. Hope these helps.
@ChurchSecurityAnswers
@ChurchSecurityAnswers Жыл бұрын
Hey Alex.....well share this video with him and then share some others. I think USCCA has a couple videos on the topic. If it is a money thing, take up a team collection to get a better holster for him, that could bring some issues on the team and church, much less himself. None of us need an accidental discharge story in the local papers or national news! Thanks for sharing!

As a Security/Protection Response-Team Leader, I would give him two options: get a new holster that covers the trigger/trigger guard completely (required for all of our Team members - no exceptions) or leave the Team because of failure to follow policy requirements and safety protocols. This isn't a time to get hard-headed. Being humble and cooperative is a critical characteristic of all Team members.

A great training tool is a laser cartridge set up. Strikeman is one example. It allows drawing and getting on target with positive feedback through an app on your Smartphone. Another is Airsoft. Companies/vendors such a Pyramyd Air offer Glock 17-pattern Umarex Pistols that are licensed from Glock and function the same way (17 round magazines, functioning slide which locks back after the last round). There are many upsides to this one but there can be safety issues as well (small children or animals ingesting or choking on the pellets). I have both laser and Airsoft for training at home and it definitely helps a lot!
