Very cool ride. You might want to come up with a clam-on brace that goes between the bike frames from just under the seat stem to keep the rear of the bikes centered on the rails.
@sgdeluxedocКүн бұрын
I was thinking about something like that too, after noticing how uncentered the right bike's wheel was, myself. Never came up with a solution, however, since you want to avoid anything that's going to add more friction. Perhaps an adjustment bolt that can reset the center of the wheel that needs centering?

the addition of a cross brace between the two bikes near the back wheels would help prevent derailments. Another thing is to try lawnmower wheels with a wooden flange it makes for a much quieter ride. You will see a lot more wildlife if your ride is very quiet.

@@Suluk46 at the age of 17 during spring break in high school my best friend and I decided to hitchhike from Louisville, Ky to Daytona beach Florida. Amazing adventure! Thank you for sharing the pictures, videos and stories. That is truly beautiful country in the northern Canadian shield. I was a canoe guide in Temagami, Ontario for 25 years and have led trips to Moosonee on the Harricana and Missinaibi/Moose Rivers. We took the Polar Bear Express train lines back with canoes and gear in box cars to Cochrane. The rivers are beautiful, raw, and remote with huge challenging rapids. Crossing the lower James Bay was a huge challenge with tides and winds on our way to Moosonee. I wish you had shared more about the town.

Just a thought could you not attach a metal bar between the two back wheels the same width as the train track to keep you both on center of the track to help stop the derailing problem. @Suluk46 use fat tire bikes, and deflate the tires, or remove the tires and rig the inside of the rim with treads.. that'll hug the rail just fine.
@maarten_notjustagrip26 күн бұрын
Abandoned or infrequently used tracks have better traction in the wet as a result of the rusty surface. On shiny tracks, the tiniest break in adhesion and you're off, and if you don't have your hands on the bars, its GONNA hurt!

The next upgrades to my rig are BMX handlebars and big, fat gel seats. Like the old ATBs, before mountain bikes. Its not the legs that determine how far I can ride, its the bum!
@Suluk4626 күн бұрын
Sounds like some nice upgrades! Yes, the wheels are super noisy on this version, I made the mistake of installing larger diameter, much harder wheels just before this trip thinking that we would glide more efficiently. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I still have yet to find a more efficient and comfortable wheel than either the rollerblade or roller skate wheels I had before. So I am switching back next week. Anyone saying to ride with metal wheels and no suspension has never ridden a railbike for a long period of time before LOL...get that gel seat!
