That Dalhart segment cracked me up. I stopped by there with my buddies for gas and food on a roadtrip from Albuquerque to Alva, OK years ago. It was my first time in Texas. Whenever I meet people from Texas I always say, "Oh yes, I've been there, to Dalhart." 9 out of 10 Texans will laugh and ask what I was doing there.

Airplane exhaustion is the real deal, noise of the engine, altitude ( less oxygen), concentration, to fight the boredom of sitting for hours. It takes a toll.

1. You are incredibly brave. I cannot even imagine handling the complexity of *flying* a plane. Especially one so small in such high heat over such high terrain. Working in commercial airfreight, I know just enough about planes to go "nope, not for me!", but I can appreciate that others have the skills. 2. The scenery is beautiful. As you were flying over arizona I saw a crater in the background and my mind did this: oh look, a crater, I wonder if that's a from a meteor!....... wait....... that's the arizona desert..... Oh. Oh no. That's probably a nuke crater. EDIT: I have since been informed, it IS an asteroid impact crater! Even cooler! Great video as always, amazing views!

If it's the one at 4:30 that's _the_ Meteor Crater, aka Barringer Crater. It turns out there's never been a nuclear test in Arizona; the tests in the continental US mostly happened in Nevada and a few in New Mexico, Colorado and...Mississippi? (didn't know about that one), although Arizona did get nuclear fallout from some. Also I recently discovered your videos and have been really enjoying them so far.

@@parplus2556 Camarillo, just off the 101 between L.A. and Ventura. Where I used to live when I was stationed at Pt Mugu Naval Air Station. She also has a Cessna 140 (A model) from 1949, and a 1952 C35 Bonanza. The overhaul of the 140 was pretty cool, including the updates to the interior.

I only learned about the Oshkosh airshows a couple years ago, and this year I "attended virtually" and tuned in every day to watch the live broadcasts and events. As an Aviation Maintenance instructor, I love when people share private flying experiences like this. People like you inspire youth to drink that aviation kool-aid ;P. For anyone watching, the FAA regulations allow Xyla, as an owner and operator of that aircraft, to perform as specific list of preventative maintenance tasks like changing spark plugs. (I'll assume the AMM and the torque wrench parts were done off camera) ;)

There was an FAA legal interpretation (I don't recall the name but it was originally about checking tire pressure) which made the specific list only a list of examples, stating that there are many other things which are preventive maintenance 👍

On my first visit to the USA I was on a night flight out of ORD for SDF in an ERJ-145. We were diverted round three thunderheads, flying between two and around the third. You are so right about lightning storms, especially at night. The lightning strikes were just about every colour of the rainbow. It's something I still have clear memories of some twenty-two years later.

Great video! Years ago I owned a 1946 Cessna 120 (no flaps or electrical system). I have an A&P so added the much needed electrical system so no more hand propping. Loved this airplane and flew it all over the mid-west. BTW I also flew a 1938 J-3 with no radios into Oshkosh and that was exciting considering I was one of the slowest airplanes in the busy pattern.

lil trick I use during mag check is lean it out for 15-30 secs or so at the same rpm during runup then check again. Usually clears it up. If it doesn't, then inspect.

I use to drive cross country, big rigs, for UPS. For a couple years we ran from L.A. to Chicago and went through many of the places you stopped. At Tucumcari we had to leave I-40 and run up highway 54 which took us through Dalhart. I loved being out on the road and seeing the sights, now thanks to you I have seen what all the places I ran through look like from the air.

I enjoy your enthusiasm about flying you 140. I have only flown a 140 on one occasion to deliver it to a friend. I was based out of Oceanside Ca and I had quite a large number of different aircraft to fly. I owned an overhaul facility specializing in helicopters. I have only flown into Oshkosh and it was pretty exciting. I was in a Stagger wing Beach. They landed us so incredibly tight behind some pretty large aircraft and in front of some really fast aircraft. Nothing to worry about here! It was an incredible experience. Great to see the aviation videos! I'm fortunate to fly into Oshkosh every year and camp under the wing -- most of the last 20 years, anyway. I've also flown from the midwest to California a number of times. Such amazing fortune to be able to do that! Looking forward to more flying videos.

It is fun watching you in your plane. It makes me miss my 1946 140 I owned in the 80's. Especially the low level flying and the non-paved landings. You have to do some back roads and gravel bars!
