Haha! I was saving it for the finale bushcamp to really set it off 😂🤣 Thanks mate. As you very well know, when there’s so much footage you sort of lose sight of how the final edit actually looks for fresh eyes. So that’s a big relief 😅 Incredible trip. That last camp and the closing scene have really amped me for future adventures. 👌

I got trapped on a bend in Lerderderg Gorge (near Bacchus Marsh) for two days back in 2008. Flash flooding. Myself and a girl I knew back then. Our ever present company, day and night, was a herd of 6 feral goats. 2 of them were only little fellas. When the water got low enough, they bolted and ran up a near vertical cliff face. Amazing animals.
@TheSillySwagman

Hahaha that is bloody hilarious 😂😂 You painted such a good picture. I’m glad everyone was alright though, including the goats. That would’ve been pretty terrifying I imagine.
@Blashswanski

It was really exciting at first. We'd walked for hours up this mostly dry riverbed, then the rain and hail came. Heaviest hail I've ever seen. We were laughing and scrambled up to higher ground on the bend. Huddled together against a big rock face, we just looked on in awe. Little waterfalls erupted along drainage lines above the gorge, watermelon sized rocks tumbled down and fell into the river. It was pretty crazy. When the rain eased a bit, we stood at a dry point in the river and watched it slowly creep towards us from both directions. We could see fish moving around in it too. I guess they had been trapped in isolated pools until the rain came. It was never really deep: maybe 2 feet, but it was moving pretty fast and the riverbed had been our trail, so we were kind of screwed. The scariest part was the rocks that continued to fall every so often for the next couple of hours: crack, thump, thump, roll, roll, snap, freefall, splash!. We might have been able to wade to a spur and walk out, but there was a certain romance to being stuck in the middle of nowhere and we had the time to spare (it was day one of a three day walk). And I looked fuckin' manly, ginning up a fire out of all that wet leaf litter. When we finally did get out, I had a bunch of panicked messages from mum and two calls from the police Bacchus Marsh police. I had to call them back straight away and let them know we were alive. I said 2008 above, but it was 2010. I can always look up the date, because that same hail storm hit Melbourne an hour or two later an knocked 2 million dollars worth of holes in the roof of Southern Cross Station. But yeah, if you are ever down south of the Murray, Lerderderg George is a nice spot. With a little planning you can walk up the river and connect to a few trails that cross it. Some old goldfields ruins in there too... stone retaining walls and an overgrown cart track. There must be some shafts in there too, but I've never found them. It has a unique eucalypt too: a tall, straight gum with really large flowers and fruits. Anyway, that's enough reminiscence.
