Excellent content from Tim Spector, as usual. I'd like to add that strength training will reduce sarcopenia, the natural wasting away of skeletal muscle. How Big food and even the medical establishment views nutrition really needs to change.

I like what he does and Zoe. These guys were way ahead of head with symptoms when the pandemic started and everyone was trying to figure things out.

I’ve just also listened to a much longer podcast with ThediaryofaCEO amazing information thank you. What is your opinion about going to a slimming group like Slimming World who encourage eating loads of fresh vegetables and fruits

Ironic to hear Tim talk about how supplements are not useful and then to see Zoe - his company- selling them at Waitrose...

I've never trusted counting calories because the definition of a calorie is woefully inadequate. 1 Calorie is the energy required to raise the temperature of 1 liter of water 1 degree Celsius. Ok, so what is 2 Calories? Is it what is required to raise 2 liters of water 2 degrees? 1 liter of water 2 degrees? Or 2 liters of water 1 degree? It seems to me that without that specification it's little more than a guess and not to be trusted.

You are right to not trust calories but my reason is different. 2 Calories (KCal) raises 1 litre of water 2°C, or 2 litres by 1°C, so not a guess. Food Calories were calculated by burning stuff in a bomb calorimeter, measuring heat produced, we humans are not bomb calorimeters, but much more complex.

So let me get this right. There was no microbial diet pro diversity study which eliminated healthy user bias by giving one group a diet of similiar healthiness but more diverse than the one which participants already had. i.e. no matched diet. Lets say they ate burgers already, then the participants were given many different types of burgers. No instead participants were always moved towards a healthier plant diet. That invalidates the results anyway. Also did they have healthy user bias. Were they also screened to make sure they didnt do anything else healthier as well ? The designers of this diversity theory did not consider that microbial diversity increases along the gut because those are the bacteria the gut is trying to expel, and diversity is actually quite small at the small intestine where the bacteria are adhered to the biofilm ? Yes this increase is related to pH but what does that tell you. Why would humans have to eat 30 plus types of food to be healthy, because there is no regular supply of 30 different foods they would need access to a pool of hundreds to maintain constant diversity. Where do they have such constant diversity ? We only just invented all those veggies recently in history. Doesnt more diversity increase unexpected difficulties for the gut ? Please counter my arguments effectively on the points I asked, because I really dont want to think scientists could just create a new health religion. And the truth might be the reverse, we just need a small select number of healthy foods instead

If Tim Spector designs an exercise app you can bet his stance on exercise will change and he'll start cherry picking studies to prove the opposite point. Terrible practice and a very poor researcher. Avoid.

And what is your medical or scientific knowledge that enables you to contradict Mr Spector?
