In the fourth episode, I get serious with the cleaning. The swing arm comes out and I make some solid progress on the rear end.
Welcome to Project FZR1000, follow my progress as I restore my 25 year old super bike back to its former glory.

Looking great Tom! Can't believe I've stripped, cleaned and painted the shock on my NSR project when your wife could have just bought one for me. 😂

Haha! I would have loved to have done that to this. Doing some research it was set to be a royal pain in the arse and only ever performed “okay” new.

Looking really good, especially that cleaning and red paint on the shock 😉 Maybe you could ask Santa for a bench grinder with a wire wheel? Found the vocals a touch soft when playing this episode on the TV.

Cheers Stuart, bench Grinder is on the list, just need to find one that’s low enough power for my inverter on the battery. Thanks for the heads up on the audio, trying to get a mix that works well on all devices is proving quite tricky.

its lookin good dude, my frz1000 "still in bits" the swinging arm was pretty chewed up so i sprayed it with tough grey/silver car wheel paint and it looks quite good, also used the same on the front fairing frame parts, its a 90 and it had a one piece fibreglass fraring on it wich was a pain so i cut that in half to re-work it, your getting me tempted to do some vids to put on youtube lol

Sounds like a great work around! I’ve yet to tackle those fairing brackets, they are pretty corroded so may go a similar route!

Nice one again! Had a good few laughs :) I have two swingarms to do, but sadly they are both steel and need painting :( Btw. only replacing the front sprocket is a bit of a bad practise I'd say...

My last project was a ZXR with a black frame and I remember the pain of getting it all prepped for paint 😢 good luck! Agreed, I have got a replacement for the rear too which will get changed when I do the wheels. Ideally I’d swap the chain too but I just can’t find one in budget atm so that may be something I do at the end.

So looking forward to this Tom a decent in depth no nonesense FZR 1000 stripdown will you be doing any engine work on it Dude ?

Cheers! The engine always ran well before it was laid up, so I’m hoping to do valve clearances and carbs, but nothing deeper. Fingers crossed!

8:30 Hello, nice job you did on your motorcycle. I am starting to restore my father's '94 FZR 1000, and your work is my guide and inspiration, thank you very much for that. I would like to raise the tail of the bike a little. I have a question, what is the length of his dog bone? Thanks a lot!
@tomsworkshopprojects
@tomsworkshopprojects 9 ай бұрын
Ah that’s amazing, thanks! Pretty sure mine are 160mm between the hole centres. I reckon they’ve raised the back end 25mm or so, but my YSS shock also has a ride height setting, so I can fine tune if needed.

Hello, thank you very much for responding to my comment, I appreciate it. Perfect, I'm going to make the dogbones of that size. I still use the original shock, I will upgrade it later! thank you so much

Great videos Tom - I'm doing mine at the moment. How many miles has yours clocked up?
@tomsworkshopprojects
@tomsworkshopprojects 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers! The Speedo says 60k miles but the MOT history suggests the clocks were replaced by a previous owner, I estimate it’s on about 30-35k miles. Mechanically it’s only ever suffered from a sticky EXUP valve. Cosmetically is we’re I let it down over the years 😆

This 87 fzr1000 won't start. I removed the gas tank and squirted starting fluid in the carbs.Still no start.any thoughts?
@tomsworkshopprojects
@tomsworkshopprojects 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of things to check, but I’d make certain you’re getting a good spark as the starter fluid should have eliminated a feeling issue. Then check compression although that’s less likely.
