I thought that the shims will need replacement after lapping of the valves? Since you take away material the measurements will be different right?

No need, he is already going the extra mile. If it was a very high mileage engine then I would do that, but even on my 2000 ZX9r I didn't do half of this when I had the head off last year as it was only on 22k miles and well maintained. I did sort out the valve clearances though.

Very detailed work, nicely done! I had a lot of used motorcycles over the years and this is how they should all be restored. I wouldn't have enough patience to do what you are doing but I am performing my own maintenance though. To me, the most important aspect on a motorcycle is for it to be able to start and carry me from A to B. Everything else is luxury :P I think I am a little bit stressed up by the number of cases where I was stranded and had to call the tow truck :D Waiting for the next video, Tom. Good luck!
@tomsworkshopprojects10 күн бұрын

How many miles on the odometer?
@tomsworkshopprojects26 күн бұрын
The odometer has 60k miles, but that’s not an original reading. A previous owner had made it into a street fighter and then changed his mind. My estimate based on the MOT history puts it about half that just over 30k miles

Hi Tom All in all how many hours did this take you and at what cost ive just purchased one and am contemplating on doing exactly the same
@tomsworkshopprojects29 күн бұрын
The disassembly was probably about 8 hours but it would be nearly half that if I wasn’t filming it all 😂 So far across the project it’s hard to really estimate as I haven’t really tracked it. I think it’ll easily be 100 hours or so and over £1000 spent so far, but I started the project in summer ‘22 so it’s all been spread over 2 years of evenings and Sunday afternoons.
