Progress on the forks! Well, on one at least. I now have one fork fully restored and back in the frame. One step closer to a rolling chassis! Subscribe to follow the progress!

you are doing gods work with this bike. I picked up a rough zx7r and you along with the service manual are keeping me sane. I would love to see more engine content. How you go about painting the cylinders and reassembly of the engine. Thanks for making it easier

Cheers! I’ll be heading back to the engine after this next video. I need to work out the best way to paint them, but I’ll be covering it all for the channel when I get there for sure!

top vid, very helpful, had my seals done on an 899 a few weeks ago, they had been leaking for about a year, asked the fella (honda dealer) if he had learnt anything and he said dont touch ducatis, (cant prop 'em up cos of underslung exhausts) etc, was a proper faff for them. how ever, the second i drove out it felt lush. didn't realise that the seals ( £80 ) have a spring inside to stick, they aren't just a set of orings, prepping for the spring, .like all of us, COME ON SUNNY days
@tomsworkshopprojects4 ай бұрын
Same, can’t wait for the dry roads of spring! Haha yeah I’ve heard similar things about ducatis, still would love to have one some day.
@danielkarlsson6084 ай бұрын
You dont have to compress the spring to get the cap to thread in. Just lift the outer tube up😅 Also, the bushing should go in by itself, the seal driver is only for the seal. The driver might hurt the bushing, since it was only designed to push the seal.
@tomsworkshopprojects4 ай бұрын
I wish it worked like that 😂 it’s not threading the cap on the outer tube. It’s threading the rebound damper to the top of the damper rod, which naturally is fixed to the bottom of the inner tube. I’ve always found new bushings a little stiff before they’ve worn in, but yeah you need to be careful, also the seal driver is actually hitting against the washer and not the bushing itself. Appreciate the tips though!

Wow they turned out nice!!! My forks are a bit simpler so I hope I don’t have to deal with a lot of the crap that you did. Great video!

I whish my ZX9r's forks were exactly the same as this, there are some slight differences though, one being the damper adjusters, just screws in a recessed hole from what I remember. That is partly why I've put off rebuilding mine, the left hand damping adjuster seemed to be seized, maybe I should find a replacement for that one some day. You've done a great job on these and got passed most hurdles so far, this bike will be a great example once it is finished.
@tomsworkshopprojects4 ай бұрын
Cheers! Yeah I’ve heard of them seizing, I had it on a previous bike but when I stripped it to investigate it, it was suddenly moving again, so I’m guessing something had freed itself during disassembly.

Another great vid, fantastic work on rebuilding the forks. My wife and I had a baby during the FZR rejuvenation, our second is due in June so hopefully you'll get the ninja done before then! Have you already got a follow up resto in mind?
@tomsworkshopprojects4 ай бұрын
Cheers Stuart, haha that’s nice. I’m not sure how fast this will go based on the costs of things but I can safely say I’ll have the FZR out on the road a lot this summer! The RVF400 could do with a complete strip and clean up, so that’s probably next up.

Hi! Your videos are awesome, i learned a lot about the bike watching them. I have the same one and i would like to know if you have the manual you use to see some specifications about suspension. regards!
@tomsworkshopprojects4 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I’ve mainly used the Haynes Manual, with some other info found online and in Facebook Groups. So far I’ve just set the suspension to standard settings as per the manual. I’ll do a full set up when it’s all together and make sure it’s set for my weight and riding style. Also there’s nothing in the manual about stripping the shock, that was a little bit more researching similar models and taking it all one step at a time. The guides on the RaceTech site helped a lot too.

Hi, love the videos, just stumbled across your channel today. Binge watch loads of them! Am wondering where you bought your plating set up? Could you recommend a company? I am a complete novice to diy plating but have restored many bikes over the years, now looking to learn diy plating. Looking forward to your next video. Regards.

Cheers Stuart! I got the 5L Zinc Plating set up from Gateros Plating in the UK. I opted for the power supply as opposed to using a current controller system, and it works really well. I’ve still only dabbled but by the end of this project I should be quite good at it!

@tomsworkshopprojects4 ай бұрын
Haha cheers, it’s actually quite a pain in the a*** I’ve got the camera where my head would normally be pointing down and I’m reaching round either side of the tripod 😂 There’s not a lot of shots like that because of it, most of them are off to the side for ease!
