I'm really interested to hear where the idea of mids not ganking comes from. I started playing DotA 2 in 2013 and other would tell me the mid is almost always the role that needed to do the ganking. I would play mid Puck and TA and gank all the time. Now i stopped playing Dota for a number of years and only got back into it a bit recently, but the mid being a ganker is an idea that I still have. So at least that one bad habit i dont have lol.

I've been playing since 2011 and I can't think of a time when mid was ever seen as a passive farm lane. Obviously there are some exceptions with greedy mids who want farm, but usually the popular mid heroes are ones that can abuse runes and gank the side lanes when they hit a power spike like QoP or storm.

On dota 1 the midlane hero was always ganking, starting even with the 2' minute rune. Usually ppl picked pudge, sf, mirana, zeus, lina or whatever, get a bottle and ganking over and over again on sidelanes. It could be min 20 and have 35 cs or something like that. sounds like pub picks, in leagues it was more like Viper, SF, Tiny, QoP, Puck (basically mobile heroes that can quickly nuke for >800 by level 7) Only would you ever see cores mid is if they draft a counter pick to the midlane with a core that has an edge in base damage recovery or range and is just better at scoring last hits and denies. Then you'd see DK Brood Huskar Outworld Devourer Necro and sometimes Panda or Sniper (fast attack point animations (can be good if you have low ping)).

And I think it's better that way. I think that as long as you have fun and it works, you can try any build you want, no matter how weird and stupid may be in the eyes of the others. The community is really toxic and sticked to the basic concepts rn. For example if I pick AM mid and go for some MOM basher aghs build, at least 1 person from my team will flame since the very beggining and will find only me responsible for any mistake in the game. One problem I have when I try to shove out the offlane/dangerous farm lane, is often even if i tell my team what i'm doing they will get into a bad 4v5 fight without me and feed, then ping spam me for missing the fight and flame me lol. True, a carry could purchase get a ward, but it's not ideal because he could be putting the ward in a spot that the enemy has their sentry at, thus making it an easy de-warding for the enemy. A carry would have to buy a sentry (which costs gold) in addition to a ward to guarantee that the place they are placing the ward isn't already sentried.

Actually in Dota 1 mid was always the ganker. In Dota 2 it switched around, people ganked into mid and mid more farmed. It seems now we transition back to the way it was.

The trick with ganking as mid is, you MUST kill their carry or cores. If you waste your time and resource on a support kill two things happen: First the support gets a free ticket to the base,free tp scroll and buys wards salves etc.. And second now you don't actually know where that support is,so you lose info and they can gank your other lane now that you are very far. Oh also their mid gets like 2-3 completely free creep waves. So ALWAYS go for the carry/core kill. Sometimes I think it might be better not to kill that support even if it's the only one you can kill and it's guaranteed.

I played since 2013 and there was as certain build up of a midlane mindset from absolutely go gank lanes to stay farm and win with gold advantage, because you'll just waste you time anyway, since people learnt to write "ss" for a missing hero in chat and your teammates on the lane have no mana and hp anyway. I'm Archon 5. Stagnating for a while now, trying to get to Legend 1. I've found that Archon, Crusader and Herald aren't that different. Things in Archon just happen quicker and more farm is being taken. And the more I read about the higher brackets, the more I am convinced that things aren't very different there. Players rank up, they improve their reflexes, muscle memory, team fighting skill. But they are still bad when it comes to making decisions and their selfishness. The toxicity and emotional reactions are also the same.

the only exception to the rule are the low tier mid heroes, the dumb right click mid heroes and tinker. Those are heroes that are either too slow to go gank enemy lanes, need a lot of items to scale or they are made to dominate mid, take it fast and then proceed to join another lane and start team fighting. And Tinker of course is the opposite. The whole point is to delay his BoTs before he becomes a global gank presence. So in this case mid needs to get ganked hard.

Yesssss! Damn, I have been spamming terrorblade and the most fraustrating thing is seeing dark enemy side and 3 teammates rape my jungle. No stacks no nothing and if its not enough i even get qop to blink into a camp im farmimg and scream. Like wowwww how bad you want to lose? I started pathing my conjure images to the enemy t2-t3 towers and aggro fresh waves into camps. But that still not enough as my rape the jungle while the enemy control the map. Send helpppp Well the upside of this is when i play pos 5 or 4 i super sensetive for my carry's farm. I stack 2 to 3 camps at a time make sure theyre doing well. Placing wards on defensive spots so they can avoid ganks. Yea i treat them as i wanted to be treated when i play TB

Honestly Jenkins, I wish turbo players listened to any one of these strats, I used to not have time for normal games so I put my suffering in turbo mode. In turbo if mid ganks at lvl 6 and gets a double for his safe, safe goes up 1 lvl per hero, you get about 400 gold and mid goes up a level as well. You even use that ult you cant find a use for in mid and put in on cool down, I.e. use it for what it was intended

One thing was wrong. I come from dota 1 and the midlane hero ALWAYS had to be good at ganging and do so as soon as he hits lvl6 usually. Just farming mid might have been a 2007 dota strategy having a silencer and viper farm mid but those days were long gone by the time dota 2 hit

The first advice about the farm stealing is so goddam true. I used to play carry and fed up of mostly every single game having my farming patterns broken again and again and again. Even more sad than supports doing that is when offlaners, aggressive offlaners like slardar farming jungles. Just because I am aware of this and pay attention to this, now that I play mostly pos 3 nd 4 my games are much easier just because I respect my carry farm and make space for him.

if there is no space for carry to farm, I think the real issue is, are we all competing for farm which translate to "are we all picking semi core or hard carry?". If yes, then someone else need to give up their farm. If you have AM and Tinker in one team and NP, for sure there will be no space to farm unless you are controlling whole map. However, during the game, no one wants to give up their farm and as a result everyone has sub par item while enemy core already at peak

I play on the SEA server and even as a pos 1/2/3, I'll always buy and carry the wards myself to plant **UNLESS** my supports are just that good that I don't have to do so. And if I die due to my lousy warding skills, it's solely my fault. Observer wards are now free! Just send them along with your items in laning phase. Ironically, despite playing both dota 1 & 2, and having over 5000 hours accumulatively, I still feel that I have flaws which this video addresses one of it which is the sub-duty of a pos 5 :) A great video by the way!

I reached 10 MMR after a consistent losing streak, then I started playing carry and reached 140 MMR. Later, I met offlaners who would take beating from carry and then take all the safe farm, use spells to take creep waves, which brought me back to 10 MMR. So I switched to offlane and didn't steal the safe farm from my carry, also this allowed me to shut down their carry. With this strategy I reached around ~400 MMR. Now the next problem I face is that my teammates take bad fights. If the opposite team is snowballing them, they get frustrated and fight more and blame each other. I hope I can improve my gameplay and find a solution to this so that I can exit herald bracket.

Its a long road for most people. Dont worry that much about mmr and try to focus on what you should improve next. Your mmr will always follow your actual gameplay over time. Gl

Man I face a similar problem. I play as support, and find that my team mostly turns out to be glass cannons, almost no tanks. And sometimes I end up picking centaur in support. I'm talking about the ranked roles matches

Yeah one of my friends who is not a carry player tells me to get more farm and more levels when I play offlane core but invariably I am near the carry and they could easily want the camp and it is also nowhere near minute tick. I played a carry once to know how annoying it is to enter the jungle to realise there are no goddamn creeps to smack

As a support I trade with my carry with 2 small camps for 4 large camps and ancients all with 3-5 stacks by 13-15 mins. Then farm the lane when he goes jungling.

I actually flame supports now for getting all the wards and just letting it sit in their inventory. Especially when the rune ward is about to run out.
