Thanks for sharing this. Very helpful. I had my LAVH two days ago. Here in the US they send you home after surgery and you're on your own. :) . I'd say what helped me the most was to regularly get up and walk.

Had my laparoscopic hysterectomy on June 16. Went home the same day. I feel great, what helped me was walking around the house as well.

Not necessarily My surgeon told me he is keeping me for a day :/ I don’t have it til January 27th it’s LAVH i asked during my appointment can I go home the same day he said no ugh I didn’t want to stay but he said I have too that’s how they do it at that hospital. In Virginia

@@JulyRobbins my doctor told me when I asked if I was staying he said absolutely. I told him I was worried about being sent home same day. I wasn't comfortable with that. His response was basically, that's one of the stupid thing they like to do in the U.S. because insurance, etc. He totally does not believe in same day hysterectomy robot or not.

Had a full hysterectomy and Salpingo-oophorectomy on 24/8/21. Bled more than anticipated in theatre apparently, but after initial couple of days I am not taking pain relief at all, not even paracetamol. I stayed with my parents after discharge on 26/8/21 until today as I live on my own, but decided yesterday to come back to my own home and so far so good. Just listen to your own body for sure

Sounds silly, but wear satin type pjs, it helps you slide into bed and off the bed and move a little easier. I know you’ll know this but lavender oil with a bit of milk to help it disperse it in a bath, really helps heal a wound. Glad to see you again, healing hugs x

Hi Joanne. Thank you so much for your video with information on post recovery. I can relate to all you say so well especially being from the Uk too, a lot of things you said happened to me too. Just had my surgery and it’s day 2 now and been home a few hours. My recovery so far has been great and I feel so energised than I thought I would . Pain was intense straight after surgery but I made that morphine ‘buddy’ pump my best friend! Injections will be interesting to self administer and had a little training session with a nurse at the hospital so should be good to go. I had everything removed with the exception of my ovaries, hanging on to those till nature runs it’s course and they retire on their own😊. I had a massive fibroid attached to my uterus which was the main cause of my problems and need for surgery. I had binge watched a lot of videos on this procedure, but was so happy to find yours as I could relate to so many things you went through and talked about. Thank you so much for uploading and sharing your experience. You have helped me progress forward with embracing recovery. PS... I too would have liked to film my journey in hospital but did not want to appear like the crazy redhead in bed 1 wanting to be a medical reporter!😂. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

The E Legacy Family Tv, Good morning and yes glory be to God. Thank you for your reply. I get this sharp pain radiating down my abdomen and pelvis on and off. Yes, I did start driving but, very little. Only to get to the grocery store. Now only taking ibuprofen for the pain. Are you still taking stool softeners and/or laxatives, regarding rectal pains(?). I am..it helps. I can certainly tell if I’ve done too much during the day. That is when the pain worsens. Then I rest, nap, read, do artwork 🖼, and just watch a movie or something. Jeanette Raichel Hey there, I know the fear. And it's okay. I can say all the same things that others probably have; you're in good hands, everything will be okay, and they're true. But it's us going through it, and the best advice I can give you is; just take it one day at a time. If you can sleep, rest, or get lost in a book or the tv waiting for Monday then do it. Keep the mind as calm as you can, and then the mind will be kind to your stress levels. I was sooooo much happier after the surgery. I was so worried about lack of movement, healing, and what they were taking out... But once the surgery was over my mind felt in a much stronger place. Massive good luck for Monday, keep me posted. @JoanneMallory13
@JoanneMallory13 4 жыл бұрын
Hi ya, if you’re having a laparoscopic hysterectomy then you should be back on your feet relatively quickly - feeling pretty normal in the first few days. So it shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re having an abdominal hysterectomy - where the incision is vertical or horizontal across the tummy (I had this,) then yes you should be okay as long as you plan ahead. If you’re in the UK you’re going to be in the hospital for a few days anyway. Once you’re home, have everything you need on hand; plenty of shopping - a good couple of weeks worth will totally take the worry out of it. Have food you can easily prepare with minimum effort. Have extra pillows on the bed within easy reach, as you need to get comfortable. And don’t leave yourself with anything that you have to do - you just want to have rest and healing on your to do list. (If the incision is glued after surgery, know that it does catch on fabric, so ask ahead for some dressings before they send you home. I was also sent home with pre doses injections, if you think this will be a problem for you to self administer say so before you leave hospital - because having them is necessary and it’s worth being firm and asking for help.) But know that the relief on the other side of surgery is so massive that you get a surge of energy around day 5 where you’re just happy it’s done, and this will push you through. Take care, let me know how it goes. Jo xxx

@@shawngallo4429 I will add, if you won't have assistance, see if you can get your Prescriptions filled before your released from the hospital. Also purchase all "easy to prep" food, toiletries, water, and other liquids, as well as, things to assist in having a bowl movement prior to your surgery; the pain meds will cause constipation. Do laundry and all other house duties prior to surgery. Place all items that will be used for meal prep within reach so you don't have to ponder and look for things. I placed a cooler in my bedroom with ice, water, juice, yogurt, jello, and a couple lunchables before going to the hospital because I didn't know if I would be able to get out of bed by myself. This was a tremendous help.

I came across your video while trying to figure out how I’m going to feel - hysterectomy heading my way for uterine cancer. Thanks for doing this, very helpful. If you see this (it’s a while since you posted the video), how did you do on stairs? I live in a townhouse with three floors - bedroom at the top of three flights. I’m really worried about getting up there on the day I get home, and wondering when I’m up and about if I should stay on the top floor for a few days or if I should/can do the stairs.

hi ya, i'm sorry i haven't responded, I get quite a few comments on this video and they can often get hold fro review by yt. I'm sure you've got it sorted now :) But I would've thought you stayed upstairs for a couple of days. I hope you are recovering well xx

@@JoanneMallory13 completely healed now. Doesn’t even feel like anything was done. I got one day in bed then was up (husband had stroke and can’t get about the house too well and my family are back in UK and couldn’t travel because of Covid restrictions- you make do as best you can). Thankfully I got robotic assisted keyhole.

Hello, may I ask did they gave you antibiotics and anti-nausea medications when you were in the hospital and at home?
@JoanneMallory13
@JoanneMallory13 Жыл бұрын
Hi ya, I was on antibiotics, but that was in response the torsion (how the tumour caused the fallopian tube to twist.) this was in the run up to the surgery. After surgery, I was sent home with blood thinning injections, paracetamol and ibruprofen. J x

without knowing you or your situation, I won’t tell you to go ahead and get it done. As that would be wrong of me. But it sounds like you need to talk - if your in the UK maybe try and book a telephone chat with your nurse. If it’s cancer related definitely talk to someone at Macmillan. Otherwise, find someone that you trust, and try and work through where your fears are. I can say, that surgery is scary, not matter what you’re having done. But our health is the foundation of being able to do everything else, and when it comes to self care, our health is where we have to start. much love xxx

I didnt realise they gave spinals :-0 was you awake for that? My hysterectomy is next month.. :/
@JoanneMallory13
@JoanneMallory13 5 жыл бұрын
Shelley Chenery hey there, I understand it completely depends on the type of surgery you are having. I’ve had two spinals, one for c section when I had my twins and the other for the hysterectomy. I can say, emphatically, that the spinal was completely painless, the canula that goes into the top of the hand hurts more. (And that’s like a sharp scratch.) the most uncomfortable sensation is when the feeling returns. It’s odd. I want to say, ‘try not to worry,’ but I know that’s daft. The surgeon and the anaesthesiologist know what they’re doing, and if you feel worried tell your surgery nurse. I’m thinking of you xxx

@@JoanneMallory13 nothing was mentioned at my pre-OP about a spinal so maybe they dont do them at my hospital, you mentioned you have had a csection in tha past, did you find the recovery harder then the section?
@JoanneMallory13
@JoanneMallory13 5 жыл бұрын
Shelley Chenery I did, yes. But I had a full hysterectomy. (Old style) my scar is 9 inches, vertically. A modern hysterectomy leaves a small scar - 2 to 3 inches, and is not as invasive, and most women are back to normal in a couple of weeks. My understanding is that a regular hysterectomy will be performed laparoscopically, which is a shorter operation, smaller scar and less invasive. I had a total, radical hysterectomy, and so I knew that I was looking at six weeks before I was moving freely again. (If you’d prefer to chat privately That’s okay, I’m on fb it IG x)

@@JoanneMallory13 I'm gonna be getting a total total radical hysterectomy and removal of a 7 inch mass so I get a 9 inch vertical external incision too! It's so encouraging and inspiring to hear you share and encourage and guide as one who has gone there before!!! I cannot thank you Enough !! My main fear is of rupturing my incision especially my internal incisions especially the one at the top of my vagina sealing off where the cervix and all had been! I hope I get to wear a binder! I think I'll feel safer I want pain meds but i fear that causing me to have to strain to have bks and damage the incisions! Or cough - or move wrong getting out of bed. etc etc !!! Your g9dance is sooo on POINT with My particular situation needs and concerns!!!
