Real world footage and the amount of time that goes into baselining a drag car chassis and suspension. Sometimes you have to make the best of what you got as not everyone has unlimited money to have a new chassis built each season. I enjoy helping the grassroots racers who are struggling to have fun with their drag car. Hope you enjoy the video and respect the fact I don't share more details about the car. Go fast, go straight! Not an important comment but From just how it looks in the video of the front brackets i could be wrong but it looks like the top 2 holes were just there for looks. To me they look straight on top of one another instead of how the rest of them are at an angle. Great video. Keep them coming. I enjoy hearing and watching good information on this stuff 👍

Good video Kevin. We picked up a 74 Challenger with a big tire and a 4 link and I noticed that the 4 link brackets on the Dana 60 and the frame were rather limited in adjustments. We are wanting to switch to a small tire and do the back of the track no prep stuff. We are still putting the engine together and it might not be ready until mid-season but I will be in touch with you about using your services to help me get it set up. I hope that the car has enough adjustment available to make the switch to small tire.

Hi Kevin, Is there an advantage to having a longer or shorter distance from axle center line to lower bar mounting point on the rearend ? Is there a sweet spot distance while maintaining a flat to 3 degrees up on the lower bar??

When I saw the first graph of this chassis suspension, my first thought was way too tall a tire for this chassis and I'm assuming the quick fix ( for ride height any way)was lowering the suspension.
@jamieknight96363 жыл бұрын
Thx Kevin, perhaps you can run a 1/4 board on your stands to give you a straight 11' height measurement. Great video, well done

Jamie Knight thanks so much for your comments! Good idea... it would make for easier math, but I have a Google Sheet where I put in all my numbers and it does the math for me. Actually, I wish I would have went taller just so I have more room. Good suggestion. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

@@KevinWilsonSBC yes, it worked on Reddit that is where I found you. Even though it may not seem you are getting support through Reddit people view it. The platform just does not reward views unless you go live. That platform is simply likes. So it is hard to get it going on there. But I did find you there I am sure many others did as well. So if you are reading this and found him on Reddit comment below

Do you have a specific video on setting up the suspension on a bracket car? Or a video that I could watch that is beneficial for a bracket drag car, for suspension and anything else to improve the success of a bracket drag car? I know all your videos I can learn a lot, just interested in building an efficient and consistent bracket car. Thanks so much for sharing all your videos, they are very helpful, informative, and easy to understand. Thanks Again!!! Take care, be safe, and have fun regardless. P.S. ARE VIKING DOUBLE ADJUSTABLE FRONT AND REAR COIL OVER SHOCKS AND STRUTS GOOD SHOCKS FOR A BRACKET CAR?
@KevinWilsonSBC2 жыл бұрын
There are definitely some basic principles but every car is going to have some differences due to wheelbase, CG height and distance from the rear end, etc... I will add this to my list of videos for sure to cover the things to look for on a bracket car. I also offer several services on my website where I can help you with your car as I cannot keep up with all the social media questions I get. I have had very good success with Viking double adjustable shocks, but I tend to lean more toward the Penske and Afco shocks for longevity and consistency run after run.

Kevin, I do a lot of no prep racing and this is silly but when watching the chassis from the side how do you determine if you have to little or to much anti squat? I can never tell if it’s the shock doing more of the separation or the car itself
@jasonbryant.bassguitarplay3641 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't hesitate to have you setup every car I could afford for the track. YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF Dr. But I'll never have anymore race cars so that above was just hopeful talk. BUT I'LL SAY THIS, whoever fooled with that car before you got it, should be reprimanded somehow BECAUSE THEY ARE PUTTING TOGETHER DANGEROUS HIGH SPEED BOMBS AND HAVE LIL KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ANYTHING ON A RACE TRACK. That brakeline WAS PATHETIC in placement. I recon surely you checked all the frame welds after discovering the first infractions. Seriously that car had no business around a crowd, flying down a track. Kevin you are on point with your videos. You remind me of a football coach that is trying his damnest to not blow his top on the chalk board with SIMPLE EXPLANATIONS for the issues pertaining to the undisciplined and uneducated clientele. Lol Race em hard and hammer down.

Hey Kevin love the videos I was wondering if you watch Midwest Street Cars? I think Big Chief was smart on picking a Corvette for small tire no prep stuff because of the engine placement. I think it may be a better platform than a fox body Mustang. I'm curious about your thoughts on this.
@KevinWilsonSBC3 жыл бұрын
Matthew Doty thanks so much for your comments! Chief is absolutely a smart street racer. 100% the motor placement on the vette is a big key and of course the modified rear end with ladder bars make a deadly street setup for center of gravity and weight transfer. Getting some better front end travel on the vette is not too difficult, but will need some attention. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!
@Nova-19773 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly why he picked it and why I really don’t see any of the small tire guys use the Vette is unbelievable . They all want 2000 hp that they can’t hook .

Really good video, it help me understand what you have been talking about with a real world example. I wish your customer was ok with you putting his info out there , either way we did not lose that much I do not believe. I know you have done a ladder bar video could you do another and stress the disadvantages of ladder bar vs 4 link and maybe how to compensate for them. How much better is Jerry Bickels software vs free software. Please do more beginners stuff like pre school stuff quick 5 minute videos. Thanks though this was one of the best videos you have made.
@KevinWilsonSBC3 жыл бұрын
Frank Katsenis thanks so much for your comments! Great feedback and thank-you! Yes, I will work on those videos. Jerry Bickels software is really good and with my services it helps me keep solid files saved for each car. Also, I love the visuals the software gives me. However, for the average racer working on just their car, the online stuff is more than suitable. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

Excellent, spot on Kevin. I would add, NEVER use regular bolts on 4 link or anything going through brackets. You can order correct NAS bolts from Jerry Bickel or other chassis shops. Holes should NEVER be drilled, only reamed & use NAS bolts which have a tighter tolerance plus they MUST have the shank all the way through the bracket so no threads are touching the holes or as you see here, the holes get elongated & are worthless. Highly recommend having hole doubler plates welded to each side of the 4 Link bracket plates. Also on rod ends, if you hold the rod end horizontal by the hole and the shank falls down they are too loose & should be replaced. Same on wheelie bars. Glad you are feeling better! Happy New Year.
