I love how unlike other baking youtubers Ann shows what it's like to bake realistically. For example she couldn't buy any hazelnuts at the shop but she used almonds instead. Little mistakes happen all the time when baking but she shows how you can move through them. Love your work Ann! ❤️

Yup, and thats why I like Glen and Friends Cooking. A lot of the recipes for meals and desserts offer alternatives or sometimes he just wings it and uses what hes got lying around that matches the most to the original recipe.

I appreciate that you showed that you were not able to purchase hazelnuts from the store. Showing how to easily replace them with another nut is such a stress receiver. I am an anxious baker/cooker, so I get super stressed if I can't find exactly what I need. I follow recipes, I don't cook from my head. Lol

I had to learn to experiment thanks to my severe food allergies making most recipes useless. I once combined browned ground beef, cream cheese, flour, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, and let it simmer for quite a while, and ended up with a staple pasta-topper for years (that I can't eat anymore now either, boo). I highly suggest just throwing yourself into your kitchen and giving yourself challenges and the rule "don't look at any recipes of any sort." You may actually invent new dishes for yourself and your family if you have one, and you'll definitely learn things about kitchen chemistry. Remember, fails counts as learning too! :)

I made my very first sponge cake the other day and I frosted it with a stable whipped cream (adding some cream cheese to make it stay up in peaks!) before adding sliced strawberries to each slice of cake.
