Steve Kaufman's videos give me inspiration and hope, which is very helpful. I have lately been becoming bored with watching Spanish vocabulary videos from a website in Peru that prepares Peruvian students for the rigorous Spanish language exams to enter the oldest university in Peru. I was getting discouraged because I've gone through all the good ones, which are teasers to entice Peruvian parents to pay money for their children to take Zoom classes for the study of Spanish grammar and other subjects necessary for the rigorous exams of that university. I am heartened by Steve Kaufman's advice to do whatever seems interesting and stop doing whatever seems boring. similarly, I'm on the ninth of the 10 Harry Potter books in Spanish, numbers 8, 9 and 10 being treatises respectively on fairytales, magical animals, and Quidditch. I've about had it with Harry Potter and I'm looking forward to next reading in Spanish the Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov
@JBSpecialMusic10 күн бұрын
Funny you should mention the Harry Potter Series. I'm 4/5ths the way through the first one in European Portuguese. I do a few pages a day. I cherish the click/whirr moments where my mind accurately deciphers complex, verbose sentences. I'm leaning toward following HP with the first Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, Narnia or anything else. I feel mixing it up will help keep my mind more engaged. Best of luck on your journey!
@robertgloverjr9 күн бұрын
@ the great advantage of the Spanish language kindle version of the Harry Potter series is that while reading it with my eyes I can listen to the Spanish Audible book version narrated by the great Carlos Ponce. Carlos Ponce uses a different voice for each character. I spent a lot of time researching what Spanish book to read after Harry Potter, using the advice from ChatGPT. HP has the advantage that each successive volume is written for an older reader and so the vocabulary keeps getting richer and the sentence structure more advanced. chatGPT did not recommend the hunger games because the vocabulary is the same in every volume. I concluded that Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy in Spanish is the best next choice for me. Note that I always choose Spanish kindle books that have an accompanying audible book because this allows me to acquire a correct accent with nothing to unlearn later regarding pronunciation

@@JBSpecialMusicGo on,go on, My mother tonge is Spanish and I know that my original Language isn't easy by you.Over all ,when you try to learning gramatical rules such as present simple ,past simple, present perfect past perfect tense, are boring. I started watching Jordan Peterson’s lectures years ago, I think his psychology lectures were absolutely amazing. But I haven’t kept up with his modern content much, so when people criticized him I was like “who the hell are they talking about? This isn’t the JP I know”

I don't disagree. Peterson is a charlatan and Andreessen is typical of the rich and powerful who don't want to share their wealth and power. Fact remains that the tyranny of the woke orthodoxy seeking to sacralize identity, ethnic, racial, gender, whatever, over our value as free individuals, and brooking no discussion, is a problem

3:20 "the Neanderthals were our cousins, and not our ancestors". Not so. Recent DNA research has famously shown that most Europeans have some Neanderthal ancestry. It might only be something like a 2% factor, but it's real. Also, a skeleton was found to be a Neanderthal-Denisovan hybrid. Bottom line, pretty much all the various Hominid varieties interbred. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqKsiKail61pfq8 "The incredible discoveries of Neanderthal DNA impact"
@Thelinguist11 күн бұрын
I don't understand all of this very well. I am listening to an audio book version of Svante Pääby's book on the Neanderthals. www.amazon.com/Neanderthal-Man-Search-Lost-Genomes/dp/0465020836 Chat GPT says this about whether the Neanderthals are our ancestors. Neanderthals are not direct ancestors of modern humans, but they are closely related. Here's the breakdown: Common Ancestor: Both Neanderthals and modern humans (Homo sapiens) share a common ancestor, likely a population of Homo heidelbergensis that lived around 600,000-800,000 years ago. Separate Evolutionary Paths: Neanderthals evolved in Europe and western Asia, while modern humans evolved in Africa. These groups diverged hundreds of thousands of years ago. Interbreeding: When modern humans migrated out of Africa around 60,000 years ago, they encountered Neanderthals in Europe and Asia. Genetic evidence shows that there was interbreeding between the two species. As a result, most people of non-African descent today have about 1-2% Neanderthal DNA. Extinction: Neanderthals went extinct around 40,000 years ago, but their genetic legacy persists in modern humans due to this interbreeding. So, while Neanderthals are not our direct ancestors, they are more like evolutionary cousins with whom we share a bit of genetic history.
@MaliYojez11 күн бұрын
If we have 1 - 2% Neanderthal DNA, that does mean Neanderthals are our direct biological ancestors because we got the DNA directly from them. Be wary of ChatGPT. It makes mistakes, it ‘hallucinates’, it doesn’t actually know what it is saying.
@MaliYojez11 күн бұрын
Exactly. Even if you’ve only kept 0.5% of a great great great great great great great grandfather’s DNA, it still means that you’re linked directly to him as his biological descendant.

Peterson used to be an interesting guy to listen to, nowadays he's just as ideologized as the people he opposes, what's more, he's extremely vague in his discourse, more often than not delving into mumbo-jumbo territory.

Christianity isn’t a Western religion and thought. You don’t understand what Peterson is saying when he (and philosophers) says if there’s no God, then there’s no morality. I’m shocked to hear you miss such a simple and well thought argument and making a point that misses the main point. Maybe just comment on language learning 😂😂

What do you think Peterson is saying when he says that?
@RHIMYM11 күн бұрын
Thats your opinion
@zachsmith891610 күн бұрын
@@alyssapowelltate4000 The original comment is correct about Christianity not being Western. The historical context in which the Bible was written and which Christianity developed was the ancient eastern Mediterranean and Mesopotamia. While Christianity has definitely influenced the west it ultimately cannot be separated from its Middle Eastern roots. I can’t speak for the original comment but I would say that Peterson is likely referring to the moral argument for the existence of God. The argument doesn’t try to say that people who don’t believe in God can’t have morals but rather that it is philosophically inconsistent to have morals apart from a belief in God. Again not knowing exactly what clip of Peterson he listened to it’s hard to say for sure, however given that Peterson has observably become gradually more Christian in the past decade it seems somewhat plausible that that’s the argument he was making.
@tiagoalfreddo11 күн бұрын
He talks about the West because the West in been attacked and demoralized at every moment possible, He is trying to save us, westerners, if you don't like it you can move to another regions. But please do not come to destroy our values. The best values, by the way.
