We take a look at one of the newest breeds to our flock, the ISA Brown. Great demeanor and incredible laying ability. This might be a breed that is a permanent part of our Farm!

Thank you for doing this update. I wondered about their personalities. At some point, we’re going to expand the flock. We have Black Australorps in our mix. While they are super friendly with humans, they can have moments where they’re super mean to their flock mates. They get to stay cause of the human factor, but I’ve decided to go ONLY with docile breeds. I want my hens to get along and I want my grandbaby to be able to hold one someday. So thank you for this information. On a personal note, I really like my Green Queens. They wouldn’t be ideal for someone who is selling eggs because of the production. However, they are my friendliest breed.
@TheOldSwedesFarm
@TheOldSwedesFarm Жыл бұрын
We are looking for production, good temperament with their flock mates and production. I want my Grandson to not be in danger with the flock! This breed checks off all the boxes. We now got a few breeds that are great layers AND have great personalities. I'll have to do a video on that! I may need to do a video on breeds I wouldn't recommend too! Thanks for a few idea, Glenda! Have a great week!
@graceandfire

@@TheOldSwedesFarm I hear that. I’m with you on the grand babies. I love learning about the different breeds. We have a White Rock hen (just one). She is docile and always laying her egg. I’d say she’s as productive as the Black Australorps, maybe better. I’d consider her breed if I sold eggs. I don’t. It’s just hubby and me. We give our extra eggs to friends and family in need. So I don’t need heavy production. I am also not allowed to “sell eggs”. I don’t have a permit because my hens don’t live on my property. So our’s are just for us.

I've not ever had any ISA Browns to my knowledge. May have to get a few. The reason I say "to my knowledge" is because on several occasions over the years I've been given chickens here and there. But I don't think any were as light as those. So most likely were Rhode Island Reds.

Some of my red star have that white feathering around the next and white booties one is smaller and darker than the others, think isa brown, golden comet, cinnamon queen, are sort of the same, Red/white Rooster/Hen think though different birds guess that would make them look alike

Sorry I missed this comment. I think all the breeds share some common parents. Not sure the exact mix. Some (ISA Brown) are a proprietary mix. This breed was developed in France in the 70's. All I know is that this breed really lays a lot of eggs! Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!

I hope I don't jinx us. So far we've lost one and that was to a bad driver on our little county road. Other than that, they have been perfect hens. They lay almost every day, they lay early in the day and the eggs are consistently in the Large or X-Large size. They are well behaved and very friendly. We're looking to get more in the spring, along with some more Barred Plymouth Rocks. Keep us posted on how your ISA's work out. Cheers!
