I’m really, really enjoying the series on books! It’s really helpful to have a look at the books and hear your review as there are so many interesting books available. This series is a good aid in deciding which books to purchase.

This has to be my favourite book of all Sarah. I am always in awe of the skill that these people demonstrated - and when you take into consideration when all this was happening, it's truely remarkable. Just beautiful.

Love this series, indeed! I had already purchased the May Morris book, but the Bayeux Tapestry book was unknown to me. Please continue to share your recommendations. They are a treasure trove of inspiration and information.

I love the sneak peeks into your embroidery books. Was this done before Jonathan? I wish you could have zoomed in on the stitches..I couldn’t really see anything. Thank you for descriptions. I’d much rather be sitting next to you while we both look at the book 😏😆 🙏🏽🙋🏻‍♀️👍🏽Mia

I am so lucky to have both volumes on my shelves (which my bank balance is also relieved about this month 😂). I was lucky enough to be in the RSN shop as they were about to put them on display. I confess though I have them both sealed until I have read my others (because they were such an investment) but I am not sure how they will remain sealed now that I have seen inside! If I had a super power I would want to be able to move through time to all of these past embroidery exhibitions I have missed!

In the picture of the unfinished book cover you say they did all the key shapes first, and then planned to fill in the background. I am doing a larger piece, a landscape, for my first sampler (ahem), and realize that might have been a better plan - to do the sky after the castle and mountain, for instance. But I was thinking it was better to start with the the items 'farthest away' (sky, for instance) and end with the items 'closest' to the viewer. However, as you point out, if certain figures or elements are very specific (a person, an animal) in their outlines then maybe it's best to do those first and fill in grass, sky, sea etc. around them. Are there other tips about this kind of planning that you discuss in one of your videos? (I call this ridiculously large project my sampler because I am using it to learn as I go.)

It depends what stitching technique you are using Forsythia33: Silk shading is worked from back to front (as layers such as petals for example overlap each other so you put the thing that's on top last) and canvas/needlepoint usually the other way around (so you fill in the elements at the front to get a good shapes then fill in the background around it)
