Damn, dude. I always come back to this video when I need some inspiration. I love crossfit, so I'm a bit biased, but even the crossfit haters out there have to admit that this is an impressive level of endurance and strength. Jesus. Only 16 mins and this dude did more than what I could even fathom for a 2 hour session. Shit, we usually do only 1 benchmark at a time followed by supplemental work. 4 fucking benchmarks, back to back?! Insane. Gotta admire that mental toughness through grueling exertion. I'd love to see Dan come back next year and crush regionals and the games.

I think ultimately the best way to think about Crossfit vs Bodybuilding vs Powerlifting is each has different goals, and you have to ask yourself what is your goal. Crossfit is overal athleticism, endurance, and aesthetics. Body Building is large muscle mass and aesthetics, and power lifting is being able to lift really heavy weights/explosive, and you may or may not look that great. Is crossfit the best routine you can do for athleticism? are kip ups even useful compared to alternatives? I don't really know.. but i can say if you're going there to get your body muscles to work together and burn calories then i'd say it works for that.

The facts are that these people can't do anything except train for crossfit. This guys don't have the coordination of even an advanced amateur athlete.
@marcoliviercaron593210 жыл бұрын
Maybe, maybe not. I can not judge with only simple videos like this. But the point is they don't really need it. All they do is crossfit, this is how they make a living and therefore, if the sport does not require advanced coordination, they should not waste time and energy developing it. IMO

You forgot to mention strong men they are on a completely different level.The only downfall is that strongman don't live long.
@jilow10 жыл бұрын
hittman1412 That's what i mean... if you train crossfit because of it's high intensity nature you're going to look aesethic. Maybe not as aesethetic as a body builder on a cut, but you will look good. So if you want to look good and be athletic/overall fitness crossfit is not a bad pick. If you just want to be huge, decently strong, and aesethic (when coupled with a dieting phase) then bodybuilding would be better. I personally do body building/powerlifting.. my endurance sucks but i'm getting builkier and am able to lift the heavy weights i want to lift.

professorbland The chance of injury is in the same league as power lifting and gymnastics and far less than sports like football. There is a higher incidence of shoulder injuries, but I'm sure that's true for any sport that involves upper body movements as a core component. As to the "cult atmosphere," there's a little bit of truth to that, but it's no more than a group of runners or bicyclers that train together. The format that workouts are done lend themselves to a group oriented attitude. Everybody does the same format and movements at the same time. They're all in it together. If you're not doing it, than you're outside of the group. Finally, the coaches in affiliates that aren't any more or less educated than your average trainer in a standard gym. In both cases, most of them have experience with sports in general. Some have a lot of experience working with clients to get results. Some are just starting out. The good ones are always looking to improve their skills and knowledge so that they can bring that back to their clients. My last point is on doing technical lifts. Every good coach is adamant that the people in their classes do not lift more then they're capable of lifting for the duration of the work out with good form. If the form breaks down, there was too much weight on the bar. If somebody is an idiot and keeps too much on the bar even when they're struggling with the lift, than it's on them, not the coach.

Everyone commenting about the most RIDICULOUS things like "pull up form" need to get off the couch and try this yourself...and oh yeah, do strict pull ups. Smh...I GUARANTEE this guy will destroy you in a strict pull up contest and if I'm wrong, then he will beat you at EVERYTHING else involving strength/endurance lol. The point is about endurance and speed and so butterfly/kipping pull ups are allowed. And this is coming from a Marine where the PFT only counts strict dead-hang pull ups. Open your mind and quit the ignorant comments.
@MrElectricSkittles9 жыл бұрын
dre2kule Exactly.. its not about the name or term you put on a certain exercise.. the idea of a ring muscle up or bar muscle up is to get above the bar or rings as quickly and energy efficiently as possible, just because theyre not 'strict form' doesn't make them easy.. LOL at All the butthurt online personal trainers
@TrapBarWith41.5cmSleeves9 жыл бұрын
dre2kule it's NOT about being better than these guys. Matter of fact - they didn't get their bodies by doing THIS. They did weightlifting or olympic lifting. Or other stuff. Probably some ex-athletes. The problem is marketing. And yeah, those pull ups suck and make no sense. MrElectricSkittles "the idea"... but what is the idea itself. Do as quickly, but for what purpose? This is equal to humping the floor instead of doing pushups. You can get tired with that shit too, and if you hump FAST enough - it's gonna be a "nice" endurance training. The main reason why they do it is money.
@philheath67549 жыл бұрын

+dre2kule If you do the workout with the right form it takes up much more energy
@dre2kule9 жыл бұрын
+Dominik Kohnke For one, the "right" form is dependent on the type of exercise/training you are doing. I do agree that the "right" form you are referring to requires more energy (or at least is harder) but they are not doing that here. But again, these guys are MORE than capable of banging out an impressive amount of repetitions of strict form pull-ups. If the competition called for strict pull-ups, please don't use this video to justify an erroneous opinion that these guys wouldn't excel...I have full confidence that they would beat me, and I can do over 25 strict dead hang, full lock out, chin over bar pull-ups without letting go of the bar.

Just watching this video made me reminisce the time I tried crossfit. It was no joke, nearly fainted!! I'm very fascinated with every workout I've come across. Would love to try bodybuilding, but aside from that; crossfit made me build more endurance and stamina that I can go on about 3-4hrs of working out without being exhausted, and go for a run afterwards. Not that 3-4hrs is needed for a workout, but hey if there's still energy to spare may as well use it all. I would love to get back into crossfit someday, but power lifting will do for now. Watching these types of instense workout videos pumps me up. Awesome!!
@jerjameswoj10 жыл бұрын
More is really not better. If you can train for hours on end chances are you aren't training with sufficient intensity. Plus training for hours will likely raise your cortisol levels way beyond what you'd want them to be. IMO Crossfit is just a "let me see how much I can do until I'm completely dead" workout...it doesn't really make you better at anything other than muscular endurance

People who say Dan and Miranda are on Roids are probably fat and lack the determination it takes to get even half as fit as they are. Drop the donut, stop walking on the treadmill, and challenge yourself! I've dropped nearly 40lbs because of CrossFit in less than one year. I'm no where near Dan Baily's physical abilities, but physically, I am pretty close to his physique (Roid's FREE). So if I can get there in less than a year of CrossFitting, I'm 100% sure Dan, Rich, Miranda, Jason Khalipa and the rest of the CrossFitters are natural and just put in a hell of a lot of work.

tnafguy1 you're right! I don't know. I'm just putting two and two together. The type of training they go thru along with the amount of training they go thru it's a no brainer. @samweller209910 жыл бұрын
TrailersAndAll I admire your faith bud, but I am an experienced athlete and over years people who claim not to be on roids eventually come out. One of my close friends is a natural powerlifting registered athlete and holds several UK, European and even a world record (though the world one was beaten a day later by a guy in the US) Even so, he has phenomenal strength and trains damn hard, sticks to a strict diet and has been competing for over 25 years. He doesn't and has never had a body even close to these guys. He has a good build and looks powerful but nowhere near the lean mass. As a beginner- under a year, you can put on up to about 5kg's of muscle, intermediates (1-3 years training) would be very lucky to put on 2kg's a year and any longer than that, though strength will go up, you're looking at about 1.35kg assuming eat, sleep, train= perfect. Don't believe me? Look for people at the gym who are regular, check their stats, write them down and check back in a year. Obviously look for someone with an average build who is working hard, otherwise they're more than likely on gear. Target market for roids are males 20-35 in normal gyms who don't compete- most you would never believe are on them because they don't look that great. Don't let it put you off though, keep training hard- when I first realised the extent of the problem, my training was stuffed for over a year as I lacked motivation thinking it was a losing battle, then you realise you should train hard to push yourself not just look a certain way.

It is a folly to believe that crossfitters only do these type of exercises to develop body strength and stay in shape. In order to perform these routines one must condition their muscles to avoid injuries. I believe with a little practice and learning the proper form, this can be an excellent challenge. Also from what I see, crossfit isn't a routine to develop muscles per-say, but a routine to see what the result of conventional exercises can do through repetition and endurance. So if anyone want to see if they have functioning muscles then this is a great way to find out

Eduardo Saldana not really i do crossfit and i find butterfly pull ups is the way to snap city on ur shoulders, the normal kipping or just strict is the way to go.

@viktorm70610 жыл бұрын
Trevor Contreras I like the whole thing, but as far as I understand they usually working "over the top", but everyone and everything have its limits. So thats why I ask. Professional sport may be dangerous,(and crossfit relatively new discipline) so yes it is a serious question.
@robertgillett-jackson755010 жыл бұрын
As far as high intensity training goes... conditioned athletes who have worked hard all their lives are at low risk of cardiovascular issues from cross fit. But someone who has never exercised and finally deciding to exercise should not start with high intensity training it would be a shock to the system. Gradual build up.

Baldó Buczi Saying there isn't steroids in crossfit is impossible, clearly people are going to use them and or going to. But to say the top athletes aren't being tested and getting away with blatant PED use is retarded. I Can bet there was maybe a max of 2 or 3 competitors in the games this year that have used before and or used it to train for the games, and i still bet those 3 weren't in the top 15.
@9RedJohn911 жыл бұрын
SupFreshLandry Remeber Seoul 1988 100m dash? Almost everyone failed the drug test. Since then the record is 0.2 sec faster (thats a lot!) than it was back then, AND EVERYONE at the top 8 in 2012 run faster than the 1988 world record. Now think about this for a bit. What changed? Runners training style? No. Human anatomy? No. Perfecting the art of making undetectable drugs? Yes.

Baldó Buczi Because i'm sure drug testing hasn't also advanced since 1988 either..

Any tips on how to mainatain deep breathing while going through such high levels of fatigue??
@jjmah79 жыл бұрын
Just try to take more quality breaths (deeper breaths as opposed to shallow breaths), and inhale up and into your lungs - pushing your rib cage up and outwards, vs pulling air into your belly. You want to find a pace that will allow you to breathe the best you can throughout the workout...but honestly, you will reach a point to where your breathing becomes 100% involuntary no matter what you do. Eventually, you will just 'get used' to having the wind knocked out of you.

@bakrisamee917611 жыл бұрын
chappyTHO It's called kipping. Not even similar at all to a pull up but it sort of looks like one. You don't really use muscles when you kip, it's more of a cardio exercise than a muscular exercise.
@jensbjerg696011 жыл бұрын
Bakri Samee Its called butterfly pullups :) Kipping pullup isent like does
@jonabloss581711 жыл бұрын
The kipping pull-up is a whole different movement from a regular pull-up. A regular pull-up is almost completely strength based while kipping is much more cardio oriented and requires just about your whole body. Calling them retarded is just stupid
@searchn4atheistjesus11 жыл бұрын
Jona Bloss Actually, the vertical pull is used for upper body strength and scapular stability. Without that stability through rotator cuff, lats, serratus anterior, you put yourself at a high risk for injury. these stupid pull-ups do the opposite of what you should be doing. Therefore, saying they aren't stupid is ignorant on your part.
