I find Darth Vectivus to actually be a very interesting Sith because he did not fall into their typical failings, yet became powerful enough to ascend to mastery. He seemed to have embraced the notion that passions are not limited to fear, anger and hatred. Yet despite not desiring the destruction of the Jedi and control of the galaxy, Vectivus trained an apprentice and allowed the Sith to continue with their plans, possibly out of a feeling that all the really important things would only happen after his time. While Darth Bane would likely have considered Vectivus as much of an pretender as Krayt, I really would have liked to learn more about him.

Did the apprentice fear his master's power so much that he did not dare act against him, or did Vectivus not train his apprentice up to the Banenite system. It is also possible that the apprentice thought his master as useful, I'm sure the wealth and connections he gave the Sith Order were useful in continuing the plan. Darth Vectivus was the wisest of sith. He just contemplated and acquired knowledge of the dark side without actually hurting anyone. Yet, it is true that his position was against the rule of two and the dark side in itself, for the dark side is not an object to be contemplated, but a power to be embraced. Galactic dominance and self dification was the end goal of the sith, so in this regard, Sidious was not only the most powerful sith in history, but the truest that ever lived.
@mwg5007 жыл бұрын
Vectivus and Gravid didn't reject the Rule of Two, which states there should only be two true Sith lords at one time (Master and Apprentice). They may not have focused on the goals of the order, but IMO did not appear to violate that specific rule. Tenebrous, OTOH, did seem to reject the Rule of Two, having a back-up apprentice (Venamis), and plotting to live forever in some way like he manipulated Plagueis into also trying to find a way to do. The Plagueis novel does state several Sith had ignored the Rule of Two, but does not really mention them by name.

I strongly disagree on Darth Plagueis part, just like Darth Bane, they both reject the old order of the Sith that rely on subjugation and military power. Heck, Darth Plagueis fought Darth Venamis and the book describes their pace as being so fast that from the distance they would have been looking like lightning bolts if i remember correctly, while mace windu is described as holding several light sabers at once, to many to count. Though i think that would be to fast to be enjoyable...really, just speed forward any of the lightsaber duels of the movies by 1.5 or 2....it still looks like there was effort in it, yet it is way more action packed and epic.

That was the Sith Lord Darth Bane's Greatest mistake, Darth Bame thought reducing Sith Lords to only 2 Memebers, and having few Sith Inquistors would make them powerful, but He WAS WRONG, that didn't make the Sith Order Stronger, it only made them weaker, well it came to Star Wars Force Awakens to Star Wars Last Jedi they did technically bended the rule, there were 3 Sith Lords total, Darth Sidious Palpatine, his Hideous Clone Snoke, and Kylo Ren. They think as well reducing the Sith would also prevent Anyone from Usurping, but they're Wrong, Sidious usurped Plagueis got him Killed, Maul tried to usurp Sidious with his Sith Lord Brother Savage, Vader tried to usurp Sidious, Kylo Ren try to usurp Snoke and Sidious, well what they mostly had were more Sith Inquistors as seen in Star Wars Obi wan, Star Wars canon Comics, and Star Wars Rebels. Darth Bane was just a Coward 😱, too Fearful of any one of the acolytes to get much power to usurp him, get a hardly ethical Mutant army, and get Darth Bane Killed which he did get Killed. 💀. Darth Revan and every Sith in Star Wars KOTOR and in Star Wars The Old Republic would NEVER DO that Stupid Rule. The thought process was that, if the apprentice could overcome their master while they were fighting for their lives, then they had ultimately proved themselves the superior Sith. If they failed, they could try again and again until the succeeded, and if they died, then the master would merely seek out a more capable apprentice.
@Brutalyte6167 жыл бұрын
It's usually a begrudging acceptance of their own limitations. Bane was a warrior at heart, and while he was extremely powerful, he was not a fool. He knew it was likely that he could not best the Jedi and the Republic in his lifetime, however long that may be. So, he took on an apprentice as a precaution and taught her everything he could, knowing full well that one day his student would almost certainly surpass and kill him, but also knowing that she would be ready to carry on in his stead and perpetuate the Sith's eternal grudge until, one day, his vision would be realized and there would only need to be one Sith in existence.

But Plagueis bested him.

Does the story of the rule of two teach us that the sith is meant to fail by concept? I mean, the powers of the dark side become stronger as one's emotion takes over. However, more emotion means less reason and lead to less controlable sithlords, that means, the more powerful a sith gets, the more flawled he/she becomes and less complex strategies can be followed.

This decision to take on 2 Apprentices simultaneously was what led to the War of Thorn that nearly destroyed the Sith Order as a whole! Darth Toudorix broke the rule when he killed his master, Darth Gale in the traditional duel of the Sith but cheated. How? He had help from not just 1 secret Apprentice but 6 & they jumped piled Darth Gale all at once. Darth Toudorix then founded the Assembly of Horror (In North America) or La Confraternité de Terreur (In Europe) which was basically a dark side cult that conducted terrorism across the Galaxy. He also made the Sith Order's ranks fill up exclusively with Humans let alone at all! Darth Tenebrous broke it by simply training another Apprentice named Darth Venomous to fight his 1st Apprentice, Darth Plaguesis! Had Darth Venomous succeeded, he would have founded the 5th House of Bane.

I put forth sidious also failed to follow the rule in that he failed to take apprentices that could defeat him (Maul, Dooku and post suit Vader).

Jake Alter doesn't count, Vader wasn't able to walk away from it (i.e. He died soon after). The rule of two obviously has the unspoken understanding that the apprentice be strong enough that he will survive the conflict and Palpatine took steps to make sure Vader couldn't (as far as legends is concerned).

Sidious did not fail rule of two All of his three Sith apprentices (Darth Maul, Darth Tyranus, and Darth Vader) failed to overthrow him. Sith Apprentice is the one must overthrow his master if he is unable to then he gets replaced by another Sith apprentice. All of his Apprentices plotted and schemed against Sidious to the extent by even breaking the rule of two by taking their own Sith apprentices (Ventress, Savage Opress, Starkiller, even Luke Skywalker) and they all failed miserably to do their job.

I hope this doesn't sound like too stupid a question but what exactly drove Darth Gravid to madness? What was it about his acceptance and attempted incorporation of the Light Side into the Sith doctrine that led to his fall?

Darth Sidious: I destroyed the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic! With the help of the Jedi's most promised Chosen One!!! Darth Vectivus: So? I defeated the Jedi single handedly! Darth Sidious: Really? HOW! Darth Vectivus: I bought them! Their Temple was now my property! I told them to get the fuck out! Or I would shut off their cable! Their electricity! Their plumbing! And their heating and air conditioning! Of course the beautiful female Jedi could stay in my temple if they wanted to.... Darth Sidious: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

If the 'Rule of Two' philosophy was for one master and one apprentice at any given time, how come Darth Vader trained Starkiller whilst serving his own master, Darth Sidious? I don't know if Darth Vader had any disagreements with the philosophy but I would assume this would have caused a few issued with the 'Rule of Two' philosophy, especially as Darth Sidious was the Master, Vader was the Apprentice and Vader was training Starkiller. I am referencing The Force Awakens games so I apologize if I have anything wrong or if I got anything mixed up.
@JanPeverell7 жыл бұрын
Vader himself was too weak to kill Sidious and assume the mantle of Sith Master. He therefore wanted an apprentice to help him achieve that goal. His first option was Starkiller, then later Luke came along. The very reason that Vader tried to keep Starkiller secret and hidden from Sidious was because Sidious would not allow Starkiller to live, as he both posed a threat to his rule and was trained against the Rule of Two.
@Huron2010A7 жыл бұрын
But shouldn't both Master & Apprentice keep a list of lest just say, prospects available at all times? If the Master needs to replace the apprentice, like, say, have a father fight his son over Endor for the Apprentice spot. Or if the Apprentice feels it's time for a promotion, and might need a hand; or at a minimum a name to look up on day one.
@JanPeverell7 жыл бұрын
I do think that it is practical to have some candidates - Darth Tenebrous kept his eyes open on prospects, but Plagueis killed them and found and picked his own apprentice in Palpatine. But the thing is that the apprentice only proves himself unworthy of Sith mastery if he needs another's help (like in the case of Vader).

ive been thinking that Snoke was Plagueis but now im starting to think that there could possibly be someone even more powerful that we have yet to know about. just like how the emperor was introduced in the empire strikes back maybe one of the rule of 2 sith is controlling Snoke? idk just a theory... AH STAR WARS THEORY!!!!!!! lol but fr tho
@jakub30357 жыл бұрын
What about Palpatine? He killed Plagueis in sleep, instead of defeating him in fair combat.
@jakealter55047 жыл бұрын
Jakub that doesn't really violate the rule of two like others did
@undead45007 жыл бұрын
does not violate the rule of two or the way of the Sith. Sith Are not Mandalorians they will kill their own masters in every way possible to take The Sith Master Mantle and it Duty of a Master to not show any Weaknesses for their apprentices to exploit to ensure there rule continues.
@jakealter55047 жыл бұрын
undead4500 it doesn't violate the rule but that is more in line with how Darth Bane wanted the transition from apprentice to master to go (through a direct confrontation)
@undead45007 жыл бұрын
that not true and if you bothered to Read Darth Plagueis Novel a Direct confrontation between Sith Master and Apprentice is Suicide for both Sith Lords as unleashing their full power both Sith master and apprentice would expose themselves to the Jedi in the Force This happens to Both Plagueis and Sidious when they unleashed their full power on the assassins and realized the Jedi would have sensed them and both of them fled the scene after they killed all the assassins.
@jakealter55047 жыл бұрын
undead4500 I know, I was just saying that it was more in line with how Bane wanted it to be, for the apprentice to face their master and try to take the title of master by force so that each successive dark lord would be more powerful than their predecessors

@emperorpalpatine31617 жыл бұрын
hc 20 Jedi and Sith are like cults, as they indoctrinate and raise people to believe a certain view, and they could be seen as "religions" that venerate the Force. Unlike gods in the real world, thought, the force can be seen and observed, and proven to exist, as well as manipulated, so I'm not sure if it counts as a religion. The force is a sentient thing of sorts, though. I don't really know. I'm just an idiot who likes to answer questions. TL;DR, Yes and no

If Darth Vectivous never took a apprentice , who took the mantle of Dark Lord after his death and how did they do it without a master ?
@CzornyLisek5 жыл бұрын
I mean after Bane nobody rly fulfilled rule of two. As in have only single apprentice and teach them everything so they become more powerful that you-master. Also because of not rly having continuity. They probably simply risen to get more or less self titled sith and Darth. So lord Kaan and siths before him, way of doing things. Rule of strongest there is at given time.(the guy that was before Bane and a guy which ideas Bane hated) After Vectivius there was Gravid. Gravid was Sith that as he went older wanted to make them nice guys and started destroying all Sith knowledge. And I think it's only sith Lord that got properly corrupted(he lost sanity) by light side of force instead of dark side.(with which he was perfectly fine)

I wonder about the Old Republic Era of Sith, from the games. They were many. Had they known about the rule of two and rejected it in favor of numbers, like Millenial? I just listened to the first Bane book, Khan was sort of a control-freak and a pansy with a weak-ass “equality” narrative to his followers 😒 but Darth Revan and Malak were strong enough to command armies of Dark Jedi, while having their own apprentices. Why wouldn’t their model work? Edit: Darth P doesn’t have a nose 🤧
@gregmatic28617 жыл бұрын
The emperor rejected it too. He called his reign the rule of one because it was him vader and the sith who hunted jedi.
