4 Speed Swap C3 Vette

I replaced the stock Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a Muncie 4 speed. Unfortunitely I was not able to video tape a lot of the conversion process so this video was made to help explain the process and the issues I encountered during the process.

This is one of those swaps most would love to do but are incredibly daunted by, myself included. Trying to find detailed information about it is like finding a needle in a haystack. Thanks for doing this!

Very nice attention to detail, quality work. I am surprised that nobody came up with a hydraulic slave cylinder kit to replace the entire Z-BAR mechanism. Keep up the amazing quality 👌. Working on a c3 vette can age someone in dog years 😀...

Thanks. I don't know if there is a hydraulic clutch upgrade for a C3 but it would be nice if they did. Working on a C3 can definitely age you. I'm only 28 years old. LOL

Information on the pedal changes would be nice…I’m contemplating a conversion on my ‘75, I have Muncie and bell housing but I’m unsure about sourcing the pedals…thanks for posting…any info would be appreciated…

I apologize for the lack of information. I really wish I would have video taped more of the process. Your vehicle should have the mount in the vehicle already that will accept the clutch pedal. I have heard that you can install the clutch pedal without removing the pedal mount from the car. I personally don't see how that is possible. I feel your pain. Just converted my ‘71 to a Tremec 5 speed from a TH400. I paid a little extra for a hydraulic clutch. Glad I did it though.

I wish I would have went with a 5 or 6 speed trans so I could have a hydraulic clutch. I bet your 71 is fun to drive with that 5 speed. Have fun and enjoy the ride.

Try doing this, but with a 5 speed Doug Nash... You will wish you never got started...

What about the peddle on the left, the guy who owned my 73 before me swapped out the auto to a 4 speed but left that peddle in place can I just remove it?

Yes, you can remove the pedal. I'm not sure if you can do that without taking the whole pedal assembly out or not. I think you can but I'm not sure. If you can remove it without taking the entire assembly out, I think I would try to get under the dash with a Sawzall or a disk grind and just cut the clutch pedal shaft off up as high as you can. Just be careful to not cut through anything important or start a fire with the disk grinder.

I’m looking for a 4 speed conversion but am annoyed Most aren’t any cheaper than a TKX 5 speed. This is definitely on my plans.
