Doc Woods- you said it near perfect "the shot is seconds, but the management is year round." The sweat and blood we put into our property seems endless sometimes, but those mere seconds (the actual harvest) make it worth every ounce of energy spend throughout the year. Great video, as always and thanks for sharing with your fellow hunters!

Thank you for not being afraid to share the Gospel message. Have you made a video that covers the basics of hunting deer with a rifle? Here in central Mississippi it seems most shots are under 150 yards so I built an ar in 300 blackout around a Wilson Combat 18" barrel because of injuries (vet) and reduced recoil. Any opinion on it or suggested strategies for a newbie hunter? Thanks

What do i need to do to help the deer herd and kill a good buck? thanks!

I am curious as to what tips you might be able to give about deer hunting on heavily pressured public land where I haven't seen a deer while hunting and do not have the time to scout before I go hunting and hunting on private land where I am not able to improve the property at all or implement food plots
@GrowingDeerTV7 жыл бұрын
Hunt the wind. Really focus on entering, hunting, and exiting without alerting deer. As for public land finding travel corridors and pinch points is key. Also the further in you can go into the public land it is often better. -Daniel

Hey guys great video! I'm in northwest Georgia and I have planted two food plots which are growing tall without any grazing happening. Any idea why the deer haven't been in the new growth? I've seen deer on the property but not in huge numbers, they just aren't eating the food plots. They are both blends but primarily oats, wheat, and clover.
@GrowingDeerTV9 жыл бұрын
+JuBlaine If this is the first year you have planted food plots in your area, their maybe a learning curve. A new food source must be learned, then it will be taken advantage of. -Matt
@GrowingDeerTV9 жыл бұрын
+JuBlaine Wheat is not our first choice for a summer food plot because deer prefer it most when it is in the early stages of growth when it is young and tender. Check out the questions Dr. Woods has answered on wheat in food plots at this link: www.growingdeer.tv/view/?s=wheat&post_type=ask

I love how these hunters do all this work and it pays off. I own 13,000 acres in arkansas and I have planted food plots and created bedding areas. But I am lucky to see a 4 year old doe or a yearling doe. We never get bucks like that and we never shoot bucks that are 3 years or younger. I am just so confused. What am I doing wrong
@GrowingDeerTV5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've done a lot of great habitat work at your property! Do you see mature bucks on your trail cameras? There can be great habitat and mature deer but hunting strategy is key to tagging them. Being able to enter, hunt, and exit a hunting location is extremely important. Deer have very good memories and can "pattern" humans very quickly and learn to avoid areas they associate with danger (hunters etc). This may be a start. I look forward to hearing more about your property! -Daniel

I've been looking to get into hunting but I don't know what caliber I should use. Suggestions? Btw, I love watching your videos! Keep doing God's will as well as you do!
@GrowingDeerTV7 жыл бұрын
It depends. Will youth be using the rifle? Are you planning to hunt other critters beside deer? If youth will be using it or you wish to varmint hunt, you may wan to look into a .243. You can see Grant's daughter shoot a buck with a .243 in this episode:www.growingdeer.tv/archive/#/deer-hunting-foggy-morning-buck . If you are strictly hunting whitetails and no youth will be using the rifle, a .308 (like Grant sot Butterbean with) is a great caliber. Let us know if you have any other questions as you start hunting! -Daniel
@LogiBear597 жыл бұрын
GrowingDeer.tv it will likely just be me using it and yes, I do plan on hunting other creatures.

Not to state the obvious but don't forget to read your state or providence's handbook of hunting laws. Some states ban rifles for hunting. Here in Ohio they just opened up straight wall cartridge rifles for hunting deer within the last two years. Always read up on the most current handbook. I grab one every year. Even if I don't know if I'll be able to get out to the woods.
@coreyj28787 жыл бұрын
could I ask you for any advice on how to hunt this time of year?
@GrowingDeerTV7 жыл бұрын
Deer tend to focus on food sources during the late season. They especially concentrate around food sources that they don't associate with danger. Deer tend to be very alert after months of hunting season so be sure to avoid alerting deer while approaching your stand/blind!
