Whenever I see Lyla painting a Sisters of Battle model, it makes me want to paint one. Maybe this is a sign of what my next army should be ...

You example using a checkered board was brilliant! I totally get it now! I have a 1/12 Joan of Arc model that I’ve been holding off on…just because I was afraid to paint her sword.🗡️

My technique for the eyes is to leave them in shadow. It actually looks better than any eyes I've seen in person, and even some of the best professional painters can't make eyes look right. They always come out goofy looking at best.
@khanoclastАй бұрын
I paint larger than 54mm figures, so the eyes are necessary to get right. I've two techniques for getting the eyes to at least look in the same direction. One way is to have the eyes look to the side -- it's easier to line them up that way, but really only works if the character is naturally looking to the side, or has a reason to. The second is to center the pupil over the corners of the mouth. If the mouth is hidden, or not even, you can use the sides of the nose to estimate where the corners would be.

The checkers board analogy was very good for me mentally picturing how to paint the sword. Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much for this, especially for the metallic tips! I've been struggling to get the weapons & armor on my Epic Encounters minis to look good. I usually end up doing a bunch of layers of metallic paint & using a black or brown wash & hoping for the best. One thing that helps is mixing Army Painter's "rust monster" & "Dwarven bronze" together to create a nice metallic rust effect, but that doesn't help the whole thing. Oddly, I make good use of Michael's CraftSmart paints. They have a good metallic range, you just have to be careful to thin them or mix them. Espresso will be helpful on weapons, I think. As much as I love the color of GW/Citadel's copper paint, it's disappointing... I need 10 layers to make it look like anything! Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get a metallic iron effect, kind of a dark metal, not super shiny?

I tried to straighten it, this was actually an improvement!
@TurlockАй бұрын
@@LylaMev Oh man. That sucks. I had to use a lighter to straighten a sword for a mini once and it ended up getting a bit of a bulge on the end like a machete. That one was a very flat near textureless sword though. Easier to mess with. And much smaller.
@JeffG-n8pАй бұрын
Super glue will actually straighten it. Kinda tricky but it does work. Elmers glue or craft glue is the best. Takes longer but much safer on your mini now that it’s so beautiful.
@CTimmermanАй бұрын
@@JeffG-n8p Won't glue leave residue? A minute in hot water might work if two bits of fabric and an iron doesn't.
@JeffG-n8pАй бұрын
If dried correctly and done with care , no it won’t leave any signs. This isn’t easy at first, and for a beginner I would use craft glue. I’ve had really good luck with this. And trust me I’ve ruined plenty of plastic swords with hot water or pins. !

I was terrified of correcting the warps on that mini too😅 resin is awful from GW and the fact they send it out warped is terrible given the prices

Round #1? Looks bigger. Would 000 not be better for pupils?
@jorgemontero6384Ай бұрын
The 000 isn't really any pointier, and suffers from the drying issue far more than said #1. Note however that not every company's brushes have the same sizing. A WN Series 7 size 1 is quite different than a Raphael 8404 1, or a Rosemary and Co Series 33 size 1. I'd show you pictures, but this is youtube, so none of that

I love john Blanche. I really would have liked to have seen you paint the model more in that style. I understand that you have a very specific style, but it just seems like a waste to do a John Blanche model in such a vibrant color scheme.

Thin black or dark brown lines for lining? Cowardice! All the purple you didn't use on the sword can panel line just fine, specially on those reds and cyans. It's probably a little to adventurous on the gold

I hate that model with a passion, poor design and made of the crappiest of resins. Thankfully, the Sisters plastic range is packed with great models so I never have to see this monstrosity again. However, great work on the paint job.
