I subscribe to the test model approach - the only problem is that for my Tyranids I now have a small squad of hormagaunt test models in assorted colours! I need a deadline to commit to. The Grey Seer came out splendidly; and the discussion on speed paint/contrast/washes/layers for surfaces was most useful, thank you.

You're totally right about letting those speed paints do their thing after they start drying. I've absolutely ruined things trying to "fix" them as they've started to cure. I always try to remember the advice of Cousin Eddie now - "... it's best to just let him finish"

I’m trying speed painting and I’m messing something up. My zenithal highlighting looks great but then something happens and I’m getting weird texture and my white ink layer (from the zenithal) is rubbing off in spots. Any suggestions?

Brush vs rattle can vs airbrush priming: 🤔 Airbrush gets to all crevices easier, without flooding the rest of the model. A compressor and cheap airbrush will do, if taking that path. 🤔 Rattle cans give a lot of thinner smell and excess spray (-> dust), and most paint boxes are not efficient enough to capture and/or filter all that, even if left running for longer duration. Works for one-off job, but may cost a lot in long run. 🤔 Brush is cheapest, but unlikely to be as uniform as airbrush or rattle can - and may require multiple layers. Fortunately, most paints dry to really layer, so it's not as easy to loose details as it seems while painting 😉 Top coats / varnishes, well, they are not always as matte (or satin) as can says. Thick layers may not be as translucent as one hopes for 🙄

I have seen you do the leafy cloak twice now, and both times, I think, WTF is she doing using that colour. Then I see the end result, and I remember to never question the witch or her chatty little familiar that talks while she is recording.
