Good video, CH Kelley. I was a 56M from 2006-10 active duty. Chaplains are some of the coolest soldiers you will ever meet. I got to meet an Imam, Rabbi, many Catholic priests and protestant pastors. Also it is funny because as a 56M had quite a few soldiers in my unit who wanted to speak to the Chaplain because they thought he could get them out of the Army. Sadly, it is not that easy...

Thanks mate for sharing this about military chaplains, this has helped me to better recognise the role and what part you are to actually play. I’d love to be a combat chaplain if there were such a role.

Awesome- I was a Battalion Chaplain for the Basic Training side of Sill. If you do not have your B.A. you can use tuition assistance to get it and then use GI Bill for the M.DIV. - once in seminary you can commission as a 2LT Chaplain Candidate and drill with a Guard or Reserve unit while earning the degree.

Vicky, Army Chaplaincy is a rewarding career path that God places as a calling… if your daughter feels the call then first she needs to get in touch with an Army Chaplain recruiter. You can look them up on Facebook. In the video I made about my story (on my KZbin page) I list how to be a Chaplain and a recruiter to get ahold of. There are several requirements everyone must do to be a Chaplain: 1st you must have an Endorsement denomination, 2nd either be in a Seminary or graduate from a Seminary with no less that 72 hours in an Master of Divinity program or a similar program ( some denominations require up to 90 hours), 3rd have 2yrs ministry experience (which in certain cases be waived). Also, another route if she does not have any of the above is to enter as a Religious Affairs Specialist (chaplain assistant) and get your undergraduate degree while working the job. The Army gives free tuition assistance while working your enlisted contract and then she could use her GI bill to go to Seminary. As far as the nationality issue that is why it is important to talk to a recruiter. There are programs to all people to become US citizens through military service. Just look them up and ask. I hope I answered you questions? Blessings…. -Anthony

Freedom to worship DOES NOT, however, allow you to proselytize in the barracks to your heart's content. No matter what your beliefs, when you're told 'No, I don't want to go to your Bible study' [etc.], you need to GTFO. And yes, since you asked, I did have problems with an NCO believer in the service who wanted a tank crew that was 'strong with Christ' and kept hassling me to join his evangelical cult. When I went to my command about him, they just moved me to a new tank crew but did nothing about an NCO using his office to 'convert by the counseling statement'. Fair being fair, he was a good Armored branch sergeant. He set high standards and expected them to be met. He insisted on the track and Conex to be ship shape at all times. But his life revolved around his beliefs and he expected yours to revolve around his beliefs too. We'd literally be out in the field and this guy was trying to have a Bible study over the intercom and he'd chide me for not getting involved in it. Now, before you evangelicals out there start commenting about what an inspiring leader this chucklehead was, consider this: if it was a Muslim believer with this behavior, well, the Muslim NCO would have probably been busted back to PFC and chaptered.

I was active duty and was seeking what chaplain understood the truth from the bible and commandments from God! Truth! In other words I recall the usa military would say "for God and country " and since chaplains represents God, then you should advise the officers of what is truth from God! So the laws from God would and should always be first! ...but chaplains were more concerned with the laws of the land rather then laws from God! ...

Awesome- the first step is to get your BA completed- mine was with Johnson University, Knoxville TN (then called Johnson Bible College). Second, after that go to seminary for a Master of Divinity program, once in the program you can apply for Chaplain candidate program. You can drill with a guard or reserve unit while earning your degree. Get involved in ministry and you must have 2 years post experience (in some cases that can be waived). Get with a Chaplain recruiter for more detailed info. Another round about option, is to enlist as a 56M, which is a Religious Affairs Specialist (formerly known as a Chaplain Assistant). You can take all of your college classes and earn a BA for free while serving. This way you can find out if the Army is for you. Plus, you can get the GI Bill for your MDiv and have all of your education paid for. As a Christian - pray about it and seek the Lord's Will for your life. Also, Chaplain Basic Officer Leadership Course (CH BOLC) which is our "basic" is different from what regular army goes through. Some standards are the same yet others are modified. For example, Chaplains are forbidden to carry weapons so we do not go to the rifle range. Instead may do other event such as the obstacle course or Night Infiltration Course (NIC at Night). Those who enlist as 56M will go to the Army's regular basic training course. I hope this helps...blessings- CH AK

Canadian chaplains can get someone out of the army for example if you're having marriage problems and your wife leaves the base, basically what God has joined no one can separate.

No chaplain justifies any killing- war is hell. The only thing I can do as a chaplain is to help them find peace with their maker. For those of us who have seen war in person- we pray for peace. But I will be there as a chaplain to help soldiers find God even in the fluid chaos in the battlefield. Psalm 91

Amen that's the significant twist of secular society. We are free 'to' worship not 'from' worship. The national monuments in Washington D.C. have it written in stone as a foundation of our nation. Our laws are severely neglected in the courts and in public schools on this issue. The law is truly biased against the Christian faith. Everyone has religious freedom except Christians. If the shoe was on the other foot there would be a great outrage and law suits. There would be full dockets in the supreme court. We have witnessed such regarding other faith practices. Everyone should have equal rights to worship without penalty unless rhey are causing or promoting physical harm. There should not be bias and unequality.

Rules are in place that forbid open proselytizing.

@@chaplainkelley8251can you cite the regulation or the DOD Issuance that states this? Sharing the gospel is not proselytizing, it’s simply telling. Proselytizing is attempting to persuade. Using authority or formations to share the gospel could be considered “proselytizing.”
