I am also seriously considering becoming a chaplain or even a member of the clergy. I feel that God is pulling me towards serving Him in such a capacity. I currently work in the prison system where I live. I was previously a prison officer for 10 years and enjoyed engaging with the prisoners on a human level. I hope that experience will serve me well.

Can you be chaplain if you’re not religious but more spiritual?

I suppose that would depend on the denomination and situation... for me, the idea of being a religious chaplain matters because it means I have Someone concrete (Jesus) and His Church to point my students back to.
