So I have a 2 month old, and she has had diarrhea for 3 days now, very legargic not wanting to eat, I have been giving her the paste for hydration, and only have corid, so I have been mixing it into water and giving her. The first day I tried pepto and didn't help. Her stomach is very hard though. We just got our first set of goats and not sure if I am diagnosing coccidia or if she ate too much grain. Thanks for any help

Sodium Sulfamethazine (aka sulfadimidine aka SMZ) is a sulfa (aka sulfonamide) drug that is effective in treating coccidia in goats.

For the 5 day SMZ, do you do a full pill once a day or half a pill twice a day?

Full tab for 30-90 days and half tab if less than 30 days.

Can you give the 400 mg Sulfamethoxazole/trimechoprim? 3 week old bottle baby has diarrhea for 5 days. Tried kopectate first couple days it didn’t help.

Hope you can help - my baby is 4 weeks old and has Black pudding like diarrhea now for 10 days as of today. I have given her SMZ/TMP 400mg pill for(as of today)6 days - she still has diarrhea. She acts fine very active, eating drinking famacha is excellent. I’m worried what else can I do. I don’t have a vet that is knowledgeable in goats in my area.

is it not better to let the weak ones die? at what point do these interventions have a dysgenic effect? i dont have a position on the matter, just asking

There is certainly an aspect to natural selection and strengthening a herd. We don’t have the luxury financially to lose animals so we choose to breed to our stronger animals that have stronger kids.
