I so appreciate the help you give us! I had an illeostomy 18 yrs ago. It was horrible! It was reversed 3 months later. I now have a permanent colostomy. With ostomates like you the difference has been night and day!!! Thanks for all the amazing tips and support! My family can’t believe how well I’ve done!

I just came across your video and I’m so glad I did. I’ve had my ostomy for 2 years in June and I’ve felt like I was the only person in the world that had one. No idea what I was supposed to do, how to dress, what I can do and not do. I never realized how many people are living with this too. Excited to try and find people I might be able to ask questions to. I now use a 2 piece drainage pouch. So far, that’s the most comfortable for me. I figured out to use a squirt bottle filled with water when emptying the pouch to get it all rinsed out and then wiping the opening with baby wipes. That may not always be feasible, I know but it works for me. I’m finally getting to go back to work now so I don’t know what to expect and how this will affect my work life and I don’t even want to have to think about dating….awkward. Thanks so much for your video. Can’t wait to see more of the them.

I am a newbie to your channel, enjoyed this video. I have worn an ostomy for about 8 years now, and the first few years were hard, leaking a lot, not getting many days use out of my flange. Come to find out, I actually had the wrong kind of colostomy done on me, I had to have emergency surgery back in 2014 for a very serious colo-rectal infection, and those surgeons didn't give me the proper colostomy, when I had output with that one, it was basically going everywhere, and not going down towards the bottom of my bag. I developed a hernia, and the surgeon who took care of my hernia also took the time to give me a new and much better colostomy. I spend much less time with it when it's time to change it, and have far, far fewer leaks, thank goodness!

Hey I just wanted to say I saw the video where u talk about the new mio bags and I got my hands on a few of them and tried one today for the first time !!! I can't even tell you how grateful I am that I saw ur recommendation one of my nurses had brought me some bags cuz I was running out and waiting for more supplies and she had the 1 piece mio bags I am totally in love I just put it on so only time will tell if it will leak or whatever but it grabbed onto my skin and that was that I was so happy with the product all around and tbh I am upset I ordered the others ones I was using but I'm grateful to have found this one I especially love the material it's unlike any other bag I've tried I was using the Hollister 2 piece ones which I really liked but now seeing the ones where u can't see ur output I'm excited because idc who u are and how grossed out u may even be by ur own output I myself am constantly messing with it and trying to see what's in my output and all that gross stuff that I don't even like to admit to lol !! I appreciate ur videos a lot u have helped to stop my leaking issue and since my surgery was an emergency exploritory surgery I had about a 8 inch incision a midline incision with 25 staples and unfortunately it was almost healed and ended up busting open my surgery was on Feb 6th 2022 and it's now a wide open hole on my abdomen which I am wet to dry packing for now and what totally sucks is I can't put my bag on without closing up the hole and then the bag goes on but covers half my bandage so when it leaks it's going right into my massive hole in my stomach it's crazy so u helped me tremendously I truly appreciate it my thing was leaking everyday sometimes I wud have to change it 2 times in a 24 hr period which as u know is not only extremely bad for ur skin I began to get an ulcer around my stoma and it hurt but the output going in the hole cud cause a serious infection and not to mention the insurance only covers 20 bags a month and it cost me 60 something bucks to purchase one set of the Hollister bags and wafers I just honestly can't thank u enough

Nice to see u back! I find that using Attiva stickers over the flange are awesome at keeping the flange from popping off and thus prevents leaks like a pro! Because they are seal rings, it makes using a belt not necessary. Also, high waisted yoga pants have been a godsend for my ostomy.... Keeps it in place and the compression feels secure. I use the cavilon spray with adapt stoma powder around the stoma (crusting method) for irritation prevention and it works quite well! I love the mio products too.. Great video and tips! 🤗 ♥

Couldn't you put on the soothing lotion and let it sit for a while and then rinse it off or wash it off and dry off again before putting on a new bag? That would mean leaving it uncovered for a while. It would have to be a time when you weren't having much output. Like early in the morning or whenever. I've done stuff like this. But I'm just alone so it's not really a problem. And I have a colostomy and it's pretty predictable. But my skin gets irritated sometimes. I'm trying to learn more about these pastes and things so thank you for your helpful videos!

Welcome back Amber! You look great. I’m still a newbie at all of this, almost 2 months, and have been battling leaks. So annoying! I tried the Sensura Mio 1 piece Midi size. Loved the pouch but it would not stick to my body. Checked the reviews and lots of people had the same issue. Any tips to make that stick would be great. Currently I’m finding that any lubricant/deodorizer softens the barrier ring and causes a side leak since I sleep on my side. This is especially true for the Brava ring which is a tad thinner and not as gummy/durable as the Hollister ring. Anyone else have this issue with the Lubricant? I use Brava and the M9 drops. Neither one does it’s job well for me. Any tips for that? 💟
@OstomyDiaries

I have a few suggestions! First, Hollister makes an adhesive spray that you can put on your skin to make things stick to it better. The reference number is 7730. Second, I had issues with lubricants and deodorizers causing leaks because I was using too much! I actually use a SMALL amount of lavender scented baby oil lol. There is also a nice m9 spray that helps with odors. It’s almost like a body mist, but super powered. I spray it on the outside of my bag. I’m not certain that’s what everyone does with it, but it’s Hollister M9 odor eliminator spray and the reference # is 7734. I hope this helps! 💜

@@OstomyDiaries Thank you for the very informative videos which I just discovered so I'm watching them all now! I've had an ostomy bag for 3 months now and I was advised by the ostomy nurse in the hospital to apply heat to it after applying a new bag. I put a heating pad on it for about 30 minutes and I have yet to have any leaks and it lasts for a long time (I change it every 5 days but I did have it on for 7 days once with no issues). I have showers and baths with no issues at all (I use Coloplast as well).

I am about to have my Surgery in about 2 weeks time and I am very apprehensive. Since you have had this sugery I would like to ask some questions please. How many years ago you had your Surgery and were there and complications or side effects. How did it affect your normal life? Are you active like before, can you run and jump, can you swim, can you drive and what about your sleep, do you get up in the middle of the night to empty the bag, if so then how many times each night. Does it affect Sex Life? Anything abnormal? Any pains or bleedings? Please answer all of my questions, it will help other viewers too. Thanks.

I have a new ileostomy switched over from a colostomy and it's way worse than colostomy it leaks all the time he gave me the loop ileostomy which gives you two stomas he put the one that poos on the top so it falls all over the one on the bottom you can't fit it correctly and as you know ileostomy output is liquidy as can be and it has been hell. I feel sorry for people who struggle with this thank you Jesus that this is only temporary and I get my reversal on December 6th. I pray for everyone who has to deal with colostomy or any ostomy type of issues. My skin is so blistered from the way the surgeon did it I'm so upset with him because I asked so many questions and yet he did not tell me I would have two stomas one right on top of the other. So there's no way I can fit it properly or even to seal it off with the searing because it's so huge both of the stomas are so huge and they're moist all the time you just can't get a good seal yesterday I changed it four times in 24 hours because it leaked four times in 24 hours 😭. So praying for all of us who have to deal with this and especially for the ones that have lifelong ostomies. Lifting you up to our Lord who did it all in overcame at the cross.🙏💜🙏

LOL, I wish I'd seen this video a few weeks ago...I'm 4 months out and my stoma changed shape to an oval,,,,,but it's not STAIGHT side to side, it's cockeyed,,,,but when I drew the oval onto the flange for cutting, I drew it straight, which meant when I put it on my flange was COCKEYED,,,,,,,and therefore my belt,,,,I wear this in a convex so a belt is petty much a necessity,,,I spent 5 days with my belt popping off like 6 times a day,,,you can bet that I drew it the right way the next time LOL,,,live and lean :)

I agree with all your tips and I do the same. With reference to the 4th tip on keeping the flange straight, I got around the need to do that by using the Nu-Hope Nu-Comfort belt. It is 2" wide, which makes it more comfortable, but more importantly, it does not attach directly to the bag or wafer. It attaches to a plastic ring, which comes with the belt, that goes around the connecting ring of the bag and wafer. So it doesn't matter in what position you put the wafer. The plastic ring can be rotated. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3e6foCBZ9l-jK8

They can leave a barrier, but I find them a must have in my cleaning and changing of my phlange. What I do, and this may sound kind of silly, but it works for me, I take the unopened pack that the phlange comes in and I "fan" all over the stoma and surrounding area for a few minutes and make sure it's totally dry and that there's no sticky residue feeling, then I carefully apply the phlange, pressing very carefully all the way around it, and I am particularly careful of the bottom of it, as I'm overweight, and I have to make sure the bottom doesn't want to curl up on me, as it sometimes wants to do, I make sure the adhesive is sticking well and that the edges have no "wrinkles" to them.
