I so appreciate the help you give us! I had an illeostomy 18 yrs ago. It was horrible! It was reversed 3 months later. I now have a permanent colostomy. With ostomates like you the difference has been night and day!!! Thanks for all the amazing tips and support! My family can’t believe how well I’ve done!

My husband has been having the same problem. It's slowly healing, but every now and then, we get a new blister that later turns to an open wound. It's almost been a month, so hopefully, his will clear up too after his stiches inside are completely gone.

I am 73 and my entire life was lived around the bathroom. Many trips to the hospital for blocked bowel, ischemic colitis, diverticulitis and infections. I had emergency surgery due to a ruptured diverticulitis and was given a bag. This is the most enjoyable my life has been. I can eat what I want, and not cramping, no diarrhea, no problems. I decided to keep my bag. It has been a blessing. It is interesting to see I am not the only one. This works for me. Thank you God.

I put a protective sheet on the mattress so if I get leaks the mattress stays clean, also try not to eat late at night so the bag does not overfill .

Tuck the resealable pouch end under the flap. I thought you would know this. It is much more comfortable with the 'sharp' edges covered.

Have had one for a long long time. All those sprays and creams. Absolutely guaranteed to bring on infections etc. They are clearly a money making gimmick. Soap and water... it is all I have ever used. Not once have I ever had an infection of any type. Those that I know who use these products have, and have been infection clear since they stopped using sprays, creams and all the other so called hygiene products.

Coloplast (at least here in Australia) was the only company that hasn’t responded to my emails for samples. I don’t have a stoma yet but wanted to try out products against my skin BEFORE my surgery. I got samples from Convatec (they were amazing and responded to all my emails and questions!!), Hollister and Dansac. I have very sensitive skin, react to a lot of adhesives and adhesives love to rip my skin off thanks to connective tissue problems. It makes me wonder if Coloplast has something to hide with their adhesives. Such a shame.

What a great video! God bless you for being so truthful about your faith in Jesus and how it helped you get through your life with Crohn’s and your ostomy surgery. I’m glad that you made the decision to keep your ostomy and not have the reconnection surgery after a year of healing. That was a wise decision. I was diagnosed with OC in 1968. Lots of pain and bleeding. Prednisone helped for a while but it always came back. My bowel perforated in 1983. I had J-pouch surgery in 1983 that never worked as the surgeon had sated. I had to use a 12” catheter and warm water to empty the pouch. It was like giving myself an enema 4 times a day and the tube would get clogged with undigested food. I had to keep removing and reinserting the catheter several times. It was a disaster. I got pouchitis often and was on Cipro and Levaquin for years until I got a ruptured tendon in my ankle. After that I was put on Xifaxin for the pouchitis. I ended up having to puree all my food and I was losing so much weight. In 2017 I finally consulted with a surgeon in Tampa and had an end ileostomy surgery. As you stated, I got my life back! I can now eat almost anything. I cannot believe I waited so long before looking into having the J-Pouch removed. It took me a long time to find a surgeon that was interested in doing the surgery. As you said it took me a few months after the surgery to figure out what ostomy products work for me. I am the most comfortable with a two piece ConvaTec system. I use the Eakin Seals instead of stoma paste. I also use ConvaTec adhesive remover wipes and ConvaTec skin barrier wipes. I like the two piece system so I can ‘burp’ my pouch from the top and let out the gas out when my pouch balloons. The pouch reseals easily with a confident ‘click’. I use stoma powder before I use the skin barrier wipes and before I put on the wafer. As a final step, I cover my wafer with a Sure Seal ring. The Sure Seal ring covers the entire outside of the wafer and sticks securely to my skin. This enables me to use our hot tub and pool here in Florida and I’ve never had my wafer come off ever since using them. Before that my wafer would come off or loosen every time I went into the hot tub. My wife of almost 56 years has been through my intestinal nightmare journey all of those years we’ve been together. She is also my ostomy ‘nurse’ and helps me with the pouch changes every 4-5 days. She is a very special person! I look forward to seeing more of your ostomy videos and obtaining more of your hints and insight. God bless you.

I don’t know if I believe you…. I’m not trying to be rude or hateful it’s just that I got out of the hospital day before yesterday and I hurrrrt!!! I’m having a terrible time with the bags staying in place. Plus the hospital sent me home with only 2 bags & no help 😢😞

I guess everyone is different but I am having surgery soon which may lead to me waking up with a stoma and I ordered samples to test against my skin because I am allergic to a lot of adhesives. I want to try and make sure I know which brands cause a reaction and which brands don’t before my surgery. Within a day of trying these samples, I barely notice it, its easy to forget that you have it on. I adapt super quick to things though. Everyone is different but the end result will be the same… you will soon forget that its there. Its also about mindset. The more you put energy into thinking about it, the more it will bother you. I am glad I tried these samples, it has lessened my fear of a stoma going forward.

I am one month in - my surgery was not what they expected I had the very rare rectal diverticulitis. After surgery my incision was infected and was the 12 inch opening. Surgeon had to go in and drain things and I just pulled out the packing yesterday. Good news is though am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to healing. I am still working on finding out what ostomy products are going to work best for me. I am making progress though one step at a time. Glad you are putting this information out as it can only help others in their journeys.

I used to shower only with my bag off (still do when everything is settled) but being as ostomies can be unpredictable...👀... I've taken to mainly bag on showers. I use pelican modaVi now and have found that they dry so well and the edges don't get gummy like some of the others. I made a short video about it on my channel x
