Oh man that waveshaper thing answered a question I had, I often use breakbeats under my drums and I use it for the live room sound so being able to bump up that stuff without compression messing with other stuff is perfect.

Far out , Brussel Sprout.. As im a somewhat seasoned in the audio space, (say, the 80's on) and have done my many yards, theres not many channels the can sometimes bring a method new to me... Sometimes, you can find true gold..Like tis... For me.. This approach you have shared, re, this use of a waveshaper , Ive never considered..damn.. Ive got to experiment with that.. That last tip was something I realized myself when working on mixes and I didn’t bother researching for further confirmation at the time, but it’s good to hear it talked on this video and being the confirmation I needed. Those of you watching, you should at least takeaway that tip from this video, bare minimum.

what does phase invert do? im confused

Phase inversion flips the wav upside down so when you play the duplicated track, and invert the phase, it cancels the other track. If you were to simply duplicate the track and invert it, you would hear silence when you play the two back together. By side chaining and only canceling when the transient of the kick drum plays, you create a phase-induced volume drop on the bass.

Phase invert, also known as polarity inversion, on a plugin reverses the positive and negative amplitude values of a sound, or flips the waveform over its center line. This can be useful for correcting phase issues between multiple microphones that are picking up the same sound source, such as a drum kit or vocal ensemble. By aligning the signal of one mic with the others, phase invert can improve the clarity, depth, and balance of a mix. It can also be used to create a wider and more spacious stereo image from two mono signals.
