My entire life changed after watching your my year video 2018. I didn't know anything about filmmaking, KZbin, video nothing. I always took photos and video but I didn't know how I loved doing that. I've never imagined of people make a living out of creating videos even at the time people were doing that. And I watched your video even it was a complete cliche video, I didn't felt like that and that video changed my life. I was watching like "man is this real can people live like this and I entered into another world. You are like to me how sam kolder was to you man. I get criticism all the time for not doing “traditional” filmmaking. I get told I’m not a real filmmaker because my films don’t always have complex character development ect. Was feeling pretty discouraged this week. This video was just what I needed. Great work… keep it up Sam!

This is what I needed today. Since I've found your channel you've earned my respect and admiration, these tips feel right. Honestly, mentioning that your skills have been a decade in the making reminded me the most important thing: "art is long but life is short" I often feel like I'm just supposed to be good at things straight away and if I can't be on this level straight off, why even try? It's a bad mentality to have. In 2015 I went back to college for film making with no other intent than to make better KZbin videos and now I'm 6 years in the making, my skills and knowledge has vastly improved, but I still have so much to learn. Love this guy, good stuff! If I can add one more thing that's helped me. Going off of the have creative friends thing, even non creative friends. You never know who's going to come along with an opportunity/connecton to get consistent work off of. The more people you know the more people send you work and that's all you need

I absolutely love this video man!!! And I'm glad you talked about the money thing. Everyone thinks youtubers make SO much money and its just not true and it's really hard work. I am following a similar path were after 2 years I have a successful wedding videography business and allows me to travel, meet other creative and create videos I love. I feel many people want to create for the wrong reasons. I'll admit it was me when I started. After you realize you only need to create for yourself and what you are truly passionate about, that's when the success really hits. I appreciate these types of videos so much. And you honestly do look like a more creamy version of ole Shia. Keep creating man. Also love your new office space!!!!

To the point of looking legitimate with a matte box: This year I was shooting video at an event based around a specific branch of the tech industry. I was using a rigged out EOS R6 (with a Cage, Handles, Monitor and Matte Box) and people all the time thought I would take their photos!? It was hilarious! 😂 But it might have been because they usually know me as their photographer. 🤷🏼‍♂️
