I believe its very important not to compare what you draw with one medium with what you draw in a medium you've practiced for a while. That can sometimes be a big turn off for trying new things because it doesn't turn out as well as when draw in your favorite medium. It happens to everyone.

I'd like to leave a few gouache tips, if you don't mind! I noticed you used the white of the paper, like in watercolour, but you're not limited to that! Gouache is great for highlighting: you don't have to leave out space on paper or use gel pens and liners. Everything can be done with the paint. Use the paint's thickness to your advantage! We all know what it feels like when we accidentally cover space on a paper that we wanted to leave as highlights (in watercolour). You can "undo" that with the colour you need because they're thick enough to cover the lower layer completely! In this sense I feel that gouache gives you a lot of freedom, especially for making mistakes. Use less water. And don't blend with water, usually one would mix the colours that transition into the main colour. Water takes away from the colour beneath it and may leave unwanted marks. Also it takes more time to draw in gouache, at least for me, haha. Keep in mind I was taught the traditional way of gouache and I understand you were just getting to know the paint, but idk, for the future. I hope I helped you, at least a bit))

"You're not going to create something great straight away" She says, as she makes something great with this new paint she's never used basically straight away.
@yee8332
@yee8332 3 жыл бұрын
The reason why she created something great straight away is because gouache is pretty similar to her main medium, watercolor paint. Someone trying a new medium that's similar to ones they're already good at will have better results than expected only because of the past experience. Replying like 3 years late but whatever, just wanted to say it

All of your videos are so helpful and watching you paint is relaxing and it helps a lot of people! :3 you are the main reason I got into watercolor, I have been trying it out for a while now and I don't rlly like it becuz I haven't gotten the hang of it yet, but I think watercolor would look rlly good with my style so i wanna keep trying and that is all thanks to you

You are so right about those things. I also tend to collect informations about new supplies before getting them, so I can choose what's best for me. Just today i placed an order for my first artist quality watercolors after weeks of research. 😀 your Gouache pieces are great. I think Gouache would also be a great medium to use on black. Greetings!

I know that you haven't used watercolour in this video, but when I use about 170 lb to create some watercolour art, my paper seems to curl and buckle, even though its so heavy. When you use about 130 lb paper for watercolour and create a full illustration, your paper doesn't seem to curl at all? I don't get it, I really don't want to have weird mountain-like paper. Could someone please explain how not to make the heavy paper buckle?

People always say “gouache is opaque watercolor” that’s not real. Gouache does not apply the same as watercolor, watercolor applies softly and nicely, but gouache is much more... hard? Idk but it also does not use the same techniques, remember last time you used toilet paper or kneaded eraser, that erased watercolor, but with gouache,OOF, it just ruins your eraser, don’t do that, and with toilet paper, does not do any thing. Also, when you make techniques and textures with loose plastic, it does not do much, sure, if you want opaque watercolor, like me. Get qor or cheap student grade like Van Gogh, is more opaque, but also you can use a bit more color on your brush, and less water. But you can also get gouache x watercolor, like mission gold, but it is definitely very expensive,also what make watercolor less opaque is it’s solvent, gum arabique, gouache also uses it but less, watercolor uses about 35% gum arabique, and gouache uses about 10%? I’m not sure but there it is.

Ello Doll I also Just started to learn Gouache, just got my fist set like maybe a week ago now and I am loving it. I took a lot of time looking up Gouache videos and reading things as well before even buying my set. I am enjoying doing pieces with gouache and just having fun with it. Your right about not pushing yourself to hard to make something good right away, I feel its the times i relax and just have fun with whatever medium i am working with is when I normally end up liking my artwork more. Right now i am using gouache in some portrait work as a study kinda. I really hope you are enjoying your time with gouache and keep at it Doll and I love watching your videos and livestreams keep up the hard work Doll *^-^*

I actually have a new pack of W&N Gouache which I'm really looking forward to trying!! I've been wanting to try gouache for years and I think it'll definitely be a fave medium, since I love flat opaque colours in my art. I just haven't opened them yet because I don't have a desk (was recently made homeless but in temp accommodation now) and I have fibromyalgia so sitting on the floor wouldn't be great xD This vid made me more excited about them though!! I loved it when you said "it takes 10,000hrs to master a craft" xD I just pictured someone with a timer counting down every time they painted. Maybe someone should do a KZbin series experimenting this theory lol!

I have ADD.... I can't keep my focus on something for long. Which also means my interests don't stay for long. I've tried soooo many different creative mediums and at first I love it. But because of the ADD my attention to it fades really quickly (usually 2 to 3 weeks).... I really hate it actually. :( I don't know how to keep my attention to something for as long as a few years to master a skill. My brain can't do it... :(

I knew that I liked watercolor because I played around with aquamarkers and I really enjoyed it, so was allowed to choose a watercolor set for christmas. I chose a cheaper one, that isn't too cheap, because I didn't want to spend too much of my moms money for something I haven't tried in that way yet. I love it, and I'm working on a watercolor portrait right now! (I'm so nervous, its realism and I really like it so far, I don't want to ruin it ._.) But this story needs a point, so I'll get to it right now. I have a friend, lets call her Liz. Liz is into art since about.. 2 months? She doesn't sketch much and is a total beginner. She asked her parents for watercolor and they got her an expensive set with 12 colors. Doing that wasn't the best decision. She likes it, but she doesn't need such quality watercolor right now! Something like my set would have been way better, its not too expensive and I have 24 colors in there, and since she isn't very good at color mixing right now, it would have been easier.. kids, don't buy yourself the expensive stuff right at the beginning (She's been ownig the set for 2 months and she hasn't even started any "final piece" or not even a sketch with it by now)

I think this medium really fits your art style. Like you've said you have a fairly simplistic art style, and the gauche has a bit of a matte look to which serves your style well. Though I absolutely love your watercolor illustrations, watercolor has a bit of a textured look to it, which isn't bad, but this matte look just looks so crisp and clean, like your art style! And like you said it's great for lineless art, which again, looks great with your style! Ok I think I'm fangirling a bit, but seriously, I hope to see more gauche paintings! 💙

Hey, I've seen her reply to someone who asked if they could try to draw like she does and she didn't mind at all, so I think making an imaginary friend oc would be fine with her. Besides, I'm sure that it's not a completely original idea so Kasey won't say neigh (horsejoke)

Hey Kasey I wish you'd see this..but gouache can be a good sub. For fast contrast and inking instead of watercolor or colored inks. I highly recommend it with watercolor it's really nice 😊 or even straight up line work for your artworks just saying.

Fun fact Gouache is very forgiving so I recommend this to beginners because 1. You can lift up the paint underneath it 2. If you make a mistake you can cover it up by watering it down and then painting the paper base colour 3. You can water it down to make it more “watercolour like”

I want to draw so much, I want to enjoy making the art like I used to when I was younger, but I just hate everything in the process. It is like constantly battling against myself, and I know it is because my eyes are way more trained than my hand, so I see everything that go wrong and I’m not able to fix it. I know that I need to draw more, practice, take references, trace etc to learn and train my hand, but it is hard when every part of you hate the process and making you anxious, couple of times even all the way to anxiety attack (Im not kidding and I know I sound like a sensitive tumblr user, but it is the reality and I know there are people like me.). And you just HATE it. But I’ve started to battle against it. Before I just went couple of years almost drawing nothing, but now I try to draw every day, learn and train my hand. i dont know how long I am able to before my art block gets the best of me, but before it I try. And I know I like some art I hated before, look them happily and proud that I was able to draw something like that. But the constant battle against my art is so disgouraging and tiring that sometimes I even think that I should just stop drawing, it havent made me feel good in years. And English is not my native language so please, if you understand my text and what i mean, dont be a grammar police and ”fix” the errors, it is wonderful that people from different countries are even able to communicate with each other. :) friendly reminder. I am not going to apologize my English and I am not here to learn grammar, I am here to communicate with yall.

Because of my art teacher I started to hate watercolors :c She was basically *in love* with them and we never did something fully in pencil etc It was, like, *only* watercolors and nothing else And since our lessons don't last so long, she sometimes wanted us to hurry up even if it would cause everything to be extremely wet There was this one time my painting was fully wet and it was visible but she said "Hurry up!" and stuff like that. And since I was tired of painting in watercolor only, I started to hate it. So, I usually draw digitally, and if I draw on paper, then I use my mechanical pencil or a pen.
