I always loved to work in Gouache. It has the best from oil paint, aquarell and acrylic mixed up in one. I especially love that you can mix every color you want in so many shades with just a few colors. I just use 5 colors to work with and mix up everything else myself. Yellow, magenta, cyan, a light red like Zinnober and a dark blue, plus black and white. That's all you need. Working in Gouache has something meditative. I totally dive into the process of mixing and painting.

Thank you for the video, especially today. I’m heading back to college for my second semester in a few weeks and I was supposed to be rooming with two people I met in my first semester but only to find out they backed out at some point within the past two months and didn’t tell me so now I’m kinda screwed over, hurt and just really down now. I’m a shy person with some mental health issues so I guess it’s hitting me harder than it should I guess. I wish I wasn’t so down about it, just sucks knowing the people who wanted to room with you doesn’t and didn’t even bother to tell you. Anyways, thank you for the video it really cheered me up for the time being. Always love your videos and have been around way before 200K I believe. You’ve helped me feel better about my art style and have given me such confidence and pride I never had before about my work. Because of you, an inspiring art teacher I had in high school, and some supportive family members I took on college and am going for an Art degree. I never thought I’d be able to handle college with my issues, but I did and not only that, but I decided to go for a degree I never thought I could handle. I don’t see myself as an amazing artist, but I’m learning to see the good in my style as I said. So in short, thank you for this amazing video and helping me out in ways I can’t begin to thank you completely for. You’ve been such an inspiration to me and so many others. I can’t thank you enough. 💕

Gouache is awesome. It's slower to dry than acrylics which means a newbie isn't fighting the dry paint, especially in terms of blending, but it dries faster than oil and can be cleaned with water. It's very easy to recommend starting painting with gouache. It's probably the ultimate starting point for eventually going to oil paint. And some stick with gouache even for outdoors painting. Personally I like oil paints better for how their colour remain pretty much the same upon drying, whereas gouache ends up quite a bunch lighter than it is when wet.

Acrylic is not very good for staring out in my opinion. I would bin a lot of paintings because of it. Oil paint is really good for beginners witch is contrary to what people believe.

I love gouache its my favourite paint to use. Its so vibrant. I love that it can reactivate but not bleed as much as watercolour. When I first used it, I was in college. Nobody taught me, I just took an opportunity that was offered. What got me hook was the vibrancy AND how smooth the application was. So good. 😍

I work primarily in Gouache, my favourite being Acrylic Gouache. Liquitex makes an artist quality acrylic formula that’s wonderfully slow drying on the palette, permanent once dry and can be used on canvas as well as watercolour paper. I love the matte flat look and the vibrancy of the colours. Watercolours were my medium for such a long time but I longed for opacity and depth. It’s worth a shot if you’ve never tried it before! It could lead you into other mediums such as oil or acrylic. :) it’s an amazing transition paint.

It’s always funny to me how Anglo-Saxons aren’t familiar with gouache. 😀 Here in France I’m pretty sure every kid had a gouache paint set growing up. It’s versatile, easy to work with, eco-friendly (more than acrylic at least) and it easily washes off of everything with water. It has its limitations of course, and I was pretty fascinated when I discovered acrylic paint thanks to KZbin. But gouache is still awesome! 💕 Give your kids gouache paint sets!

@Litchee I'm from the UK, and gouache (pronounced goo-ash) is the standard paint used in primary schools, where it is usually known as 'poster paints' , possibly because the results are similar in flat colour to advertising posters.

To learn art sometimes you have to pay a little bit, artist have to get money too, it's how they live, paying doesn't mean the tutorial will be good, but don't expect to get 4 hours or longer tutorial for free.
