In this video, I am explaining the 4 ways to extract bay leaf. The 4 ways include decoction, infusion, tincture, and steam distillation. This video is the first part and covers decoction, infusion and tincture. The next video will demonstrate steam distillation of bay leaf to make essential oil and hydrosol.
Bay leaf is one of the most popular culinary herbs. It is very often used while cooking meat so as to bring its aroma and also help improve digestion. Besides being used in kitchen, it has been found having antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic activities. Bay leaf contains Vitamins A and E and carotenoids. These antioxidants help lower blood cholesterol and uric acid level. Uric acid is believed to being a trigger of arthritis problem. A clinical study showed bay leaf tea helped reduce pains to arthritis patients. Bay leaf also contains sesquiterpene that is responsible for inhibiting NO production and gives antiinlammatory benefits.
