Thank you for this! I haven’t crochet since Girl Scouts and almost no one shows you how to hold the yarn. I was going a little nuts until I found this tutorial. Thank you again.

Yes, this is certainly the BEST tutorial. Thank you!🤩

The only thing I’m struggling with whilst learning to crochet is maintaining tension so my stitches are consistent. These options are so helpful and their explanation is perfect with clear visuals! Thank you. New sub from Australia. Fingers crossed for me!🤞❤️

Been crocheting on and off for 15 years or so, my grandma taught me basic stitches at first, but never cared about however I would be handling the crochet or the yarn. As a result, I adapted and found a way that works naturally well for me, without stressing over whether or not I'm doing it right. :D And yep! I'm holding my yarn like the first example you showed. It works for me and I've never had to bother about finding another way ✨

Thank you! I've been trying to find a good tutorial just addressing how to hold the yarn! It's a learning curve, that's for sure.

Thank you for making this. I started to learn to make a chain a few years ago but stopped and have been struggling with tension and position for holding the crotchet hook and yarn. Gonna try these and see how they work. I may get a crotchet ring but in the meantime this would be nice to learn how to do without it. ❤️

I find it helpful to "choke up" a bit rather than holding farther back on the handle. I feel like I have better control. Anyone feeling like the hook is a bit wayward might try it.

i kinda merged the pinky wrap style with my current one. i was feeling a bit of pinky pain from tensing it so much and i think it will help relieve that. so thank you

Thank you for this! I have made the unfortunate habit of holding the yarn between my index and middle fingers, which usually isn't too bad but I have been squeezing a lot for a tighter tension stitch project and my hand is killing me lol. The 3rd and 4th ones seemed to be comfortable, I will practice with those :)

What is the brand and type of yard used in the video?

I like the first method because I hold my yarn that way.

This doesn't help me as much, idk if it's just hard for me to crochet but when I do single stitches I can't get the yarn through and just end up using my nails, is there a way I can crochet normally? Honestly idk how to explain it

And i’m here to *decide how i can hold yarn easier*

Okay but how do you get the yarn to stop sliding off your pinky in each method?! What am I doing wrong while making my stitches I ALWAYS have to redo how the yarn is on my fingers.
@faeriefai9 ай бұрын
not sure if this would help, but I use the 4th method except I loop the yarn around both my pinky and ring finger, I've seldom had an issue with the yarn sliding off

So I don’t hold my working yarn I end up wrapping it with my right hand (I’m a lefty) idk why but my stitches look the same o suppose

This is the only thing that has been discouraging when crocheting. I don’t understand why I’m having such a hard time holding the yarn 😢

Why do some people wrap the yarn around their pointer finger multiple times? It seems to be common in some parts of Africa, but I recently saw an article about a school in America and in the picture the crocheter had the yarn wrapped around their pointer finger multiple times in the same way.
@BlakeEloise2 ай бұрын
In Hungary also pointer finger with much round and also the pinky finger. I usually use the first method. But sometimes I use tension ring.

None you show are the most comfortable. It’s whatever is best for that individual. It comes with time and practice.
