In this video, I give you 4 tips that can help you to manage and prevent tennis or golfers elbow whilst still playing tennis.
I suffered from Golfer’s Elbow I my playing days and went through these tips to minimise its disruption to my game. As a coach, it was vital that I could manage it, as time off court was not an option!

Thank you for the great recommendations. I think that slinger with pressure-less ball could be part of your problem. Machine drills with pressure-less balls kill my arm. It would also be wonderful if you could record a follow up to this video of good vs. bad techniques but on the court, while hitting.

Great content! The Gryo ball helped my elbow and wrist immensely. I feel using my electric toothbrush weakened my arm/wrist. So I’m back brushing my teeth manually. Have a healthy Spring🌸

Thank you. I have suffered from tennis elbow before and I had to make some of the changes you suggested. I reduced my string tension to 43 lbs and play very loosely. And if I feel my elbow tightening up, I will drop the tension 2 lbs. I will say that I've been pain free in my elbow since but now recently my shoulder is in pain. I did this by over serving one day and it has not gone away for a month now. Do you have any suggestions about shoulder pain? Thanks.

Great video, mate. I usually start with looking at my students' technique and try to fix any problems there. Then I follow the rest of your tips.

@@TheTennisMentor Thanks. I think the order of these tips doesn't really matter that much. If you have a problem with your elbow you should follow all these tips in no particular order shouldn't you?
@TheTennisMentor
@TheTennisMentor 3 жыл бұрын
If you can take any of the actions in any order, it will help! I chose equipment first as it can be the easiest/quickest to change. Building massage and stretching into your routine and adjusting technique require more commitment. I would leave tip 4 till last, once you’ve managed the injury and you are pain free as a way of preventing it long term!

I'm sure it will. Part of it is "reminder", while other parts are new to me. I ordered a Powerball just moments ago. I live in Japan, and use Amazon Japan, so I'm sorry I could not use your affiliate link; I'm sure every bit helps, so I will at least stay with you as a avid subscriber and share your channel whenever and wherever possible. Thanks again...

Amazing, I hope it helps you as much as it helped me! Your continued support on here is far more valuable than a few pennies from an affiliate link, the thought is very much appreciated though!

Thanks for this. For tennis elbow look up the Theraband Flexbar and an exercise called the Tyler Twist. A physio suggest it to me years ago as a preventative exercise and I do it regularly. No tennis elbow so far, touch wood.

@@TheTennisMentor Thanks. I got the video, cheers. I guess my main concern is my elbow and arm position. Wondering if my arm is too close to my body and if my elbow should be so far forward just before contact. I'm almost leading with my elbow. Also I'm not sure I'm dropping the racquet head low enough. Feels like I'm doing a nice C-shape when I'm on court, but looking at the video afterwards it looks very abbreviated and not smooth.

All good questions… the elbow position varies from player to player. Yours is ok as you contact well in front so that it’s not causing stress on your elbow. I think the point I make about you leaning into the shot will help to create a better position for you. With regards to the c shape, yours is fairly shallow which is good for power and flatter strokes. If you wanted more height and spin (safety), dropping the racket head more could help this. But, it comes back to your game style. There are players on the tour without a big drop of the racket head. Does that help?

@@TheTennisMentor Yes that's great thanks. Agree that there's a wide range of different swing paths that are effective, e.g. Federer vs Medvedev. I'll work on the weight transfer and stepping into the shot more. Thanks a lot.

Be very careful about using a powerball if you have wrist pain and are a bit older, this will probably just aggravate it, personally I would stay clear. The Theraband Flexbar is a much better device. Most tennis wrist, elbow and shoulder injuries are primarily serve related in my experience - it's just such a hard thing to get right and you've got so much force being transfered that if you get it wrong you will hurt yourself. Gotta be very careful tweaking technique there.
