great video, I liked the troubleshooting tips as well. I learned this throw in Aikido, where they call it Aiki Otoshi if I remember right. I especially liked the point about going across the attackers stance, that is key to taking balance. The only difference I saw was the use of elbows in your application.

Maybe someday, it's just a body slam, typically used to counter a throw. But we use this lift principle a lot when getting to back. It's very common in wrestling.
@Alex007897 жыл бұрын
When he's grabbing you in the rest beat hug from behind would kneeing him in the back of his knee work?
@tritacacademy7 жыл бұрын
When you step behind for the Sukui Nage, yes you do try to "knee through" his leg. We call it a knee knock.
@Alex007897 жыл бұрын
Soul Fighters Academy But would a knee hit in the back of his knee work(just a knee hit, without any other technique)?
@tritacacademy7 жыл бұрын
It's not a strong enough technique to actually finish your opponent. Although the knee is a great area to attack and compromise, you won't be able to generate enough force to actually "destroy" the knee (from that positions)
@Alex007897 жыл бұрын
Soul Fighters Academy Maybe just enough force to unbalance the attacker?

Idk if the shoulder barge could really be called a 'scoop' or a 'throw' - not to disrespect the technique, i just dn't know if sukui nage is quite the right name (bvioua,y the leg grab variation is a sukui nage withot doubt). It doesn't really matter, call it whatever you want just call it ippon

I suggest not lifting the legs via the Gi pants, instead lift both legs behind the knees. (As in no go) There can be too much play in the pants taking more time to lift making the defender vulnerable to a counter.

Works great from a headlock. Your approach is so much better than the Gracie combative’s. They exert an unnecessary amount of energy, and make it dangerous for your spinal discs lol. They have you grab the legs and then toss over and across the back. Makes no sense.
@tritacacademy5 жыл бұрын
In traditional jiu jitsu, the grab the legs, throw over the back is the "way" to do it. But we find that not as applicable. In these versions, our students actually hit this takedown during rolling.
@pedroguerrero38622 жыл бұрын
The move across the back is a valid variation, the thing is that variation is manly seen in judo competitions where the floor is patted.

Just thought I would say hello to your group, and wondering if you are familiar with my take on things? I like you guys teach hands down surprised, fence, and fighting just like I say all martial arts should do. This particular throw, similar to Shotokan throw I taught, and recently hit twice by the Hawaiian kid in UFC twice. U have plenty of people, room, and cameras to work with.....I suggest you show things with more forward pressure, movement, and improvisation....like, you hope an arm hanging behind in some technique combos...but I would rather see some improv and chaos after showing the static learning stuff.
@tritacacademy8 жыл бұрын
Hey Wolfman! :) I am familiar with your stuff. You've been in the game from quite a long time! Thank you for the remarks. Yes, we actually agree with you and are going to start filming sparring sessions and live drilling. Normally when teaching, we're filming; and when the camera is off is when the live training happens. Harder to edit lol - but it's something that we are going to work towards. Thanks again for your remarks!!! Oss. Matt Bryers
@DanTheWolfman8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt, nice to meet you. I just got back to Tokyo teaching here various dojos. Doesn't even have to drilling/sparring, just like show it static like 2-3 times to learn, then show it a little more ugly forward pressure and improv a couple times to see flow...some reactive trouble shooting...like other vid with an arm capture after breaking him down a bit....would have liked to see instinctual follows up if arm not hanging there. Actually, after watching some of your stuff just re-uploaded my fight like Batman vid I had on my other smaller channel. I take it your group is a mixture of guys that were all BJJ, but some also had JJ/Aikido and others KFM/Keysi and you kinda decided to blend?

snowtrout123 I didn't even notice, I was paying attention to the technique. You should want to learn from those who know. Regardless of belt color. In BJJ etc All belts learn from each other. @@tritacacademy understandable, did not mean to be rude. I much appreciate you bringing the the explanations of the old KFM material updated with with your own perspectives. I have trained in Ryu Te Ren Mei kempo karate (the Seiyu Oyata style, not that hack Dillman) that emphasizes joint locks and pressure point manipulation. Unfortunately the man who taught me decided to pursue other life goals before I decided to take the training very serious. I know how to identify things that compliment my style which is getting in close and finish those locks. I have been fascinated by the pensador style of defense since I saw Batman Begins and found it was based on KFM. It allows me to get close without being masterful at defense like my former sensei. Plus it gives me chances to use elbows and hammer hands which I am equally in love with. There are a lot of opportunities to leg lock an opponent after the throws shown in this video and while staying standing able to defend if needed thus ending the fight. I want to say thanks for offering this info free on this channel. It means a lot.
@tritacacademy5 жыл бұрын
Hey Braven! Thanks for the response. Yes those old KFM and DL concepts can provide a lot of "confidence" in your application and grappling / Jiu Jitsu skills. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is get control of your opponent, and those concepts give you the ability to enter, attack and finish.... WITH LEG LOCKS! :)
