4 WAYS to Use the DJI Action 2 (on a Motorcycle) + Review

Today I am outside with the new DJI Action 2 and my Moto Guzzi, so I am going to show you 4 ways how to use the DJI Action 2 on a motorcycle! You can of course also use these tips with any other action cameras, such as the GoPro 10. I didn't want to do a review of the DJI Action 2 right away, but in this video I do share some thoughts with you. So it’s also sort of a review of the DJI Action 2.
In this video I talk about my first thoughts and cons about the DJI Action 2 and after that I will show 4 ways to use it on a motorbike: by wearing it as a necklace, on the helmet, on the handle bars and near the exhaust. The last one is definitely in DIY territory. No unboxing this time!
I really like the form factor of the DJI Action 2, but the modular design doesn't fit in all situations, like on my motorcycle helmet. So I've used the DJI Action 2 many times without an extra module. And you know what: the battery capacity is really bad! You only get 15 minutes of 4k 60fps this way. And then you just have to hope the DJI Action 2 doesn't overheat, because that can happens regularly depending on your situation. However, I think the video quality is very good. The video’s are beautiful, also thanks to the built-in stabilization.
I only wished that the DJI Action 2 base module would be a little bigger, that the battery capacity would therefore be better and that it would overheat less quickly. Maybe DJI will succeed with the DJI Action 3?

I did enjoy having my Action 2 during road trips! I usually have the other module connected to the main camera mod when I start recording bec. that way it doesn't get too warm, but with the free magnetic protective case on, I might try having the main camera module alone this time!

Ah, that sweet V2 engine sound... I was eyeing the Action 2, I love that it is so tiny, you don't hang a DSLR on the helmet :D And I found a solution to solve the small battery problem. But if it overheats even when exposed to air flow as on the helmet...

You can try other mount from centre and not one of the end.. in that way it can be used just like other typical action cameras..it will be horizontal

Thank you Charles. Overheating and the limited battery (when using the stand alone camera) are definitely things you will need to consider when buying the DJI Action 2. Maybe the DJI OSMO Action isn’t a bad alternative for a better price?

Thanks for your comment, great to hear from you. The gloves are indeed from Segura, but it's the Segura Edwin. I like them very much in the summer, but they are too cold for the winter.

Thank you for the video. l was looking forward for this cam but I'm not sure now tbh. l want to mount in on my helmet as well but in the center. 22gb usable space is way too small, and l don't want to use the extension. Do you think magnetic strap is secure enough for high speed highway riding? Great bike btw!

Hi HellenicBlackMetal, thank you for your message 😃 Without an extra module, the camera module only has 12 minutes of battery, which is something that you have to remember. I tried the magnetic strap at 80 km/h or 50 mi and it was fairly secure.

Hi Ghost888, I saw DJI released an update regarding the overheating but I don't know if it works because I returned the Action 2.

Nice Review! Question, how long is the recording time when using only camera module with 1080p 25fps? Will battery run flat or will internal memory get full first?

Seeing as nobody responded... I don't know about battery time but they added a loop mode that will automatically overwrite the oldest video file. However, the internal storage struggles with it's write speed for video so you will need to get a 10 euro SD card.

I'm surprised that it would overheat even with the wind cooling it down. That means that without any wind this camera must not last that long.

Great job Josh, really appreciated your clean explanations and opinion. On minute 4:44 I noticed that you mounted the camera on your helmet in 'portrait' mode but nonetheless you were able to have a landscape video. How did you do that? On my action 2 I have HorizonSteady ON in 1080p or 2,7K, but I always get vertical/portrait shots... Thanks in advance

Price + overheating is quite a deal breaker. I like my Hero Session 5, has image stabilizer and doesn't overheat. The only thing I wish it had, is a wireless microphone.

Match your hero5 video specs and it wouldn’t overheat too. 4k30 for 3 months now and zero overheats. Also price is about 250$ so not that high for quality footage you get. Negative KZbin hype is what drives people from that great camera, especially for bikers like me.
