Pretty proud of myself. I preordered a first appearance guaranteed 9.8 for really cheap, recently flipped it for funds for a local con. I still own few raw copies of that first appearance. But with the money I made off the slab, I bought another 3-4 first appearances of books that are trending up! I'm learning from watching you and few other KZbin channels!

The first thing I'm doing is separating comics I buy for personal and those for flip/spec and you're exactly right: you have to separate your business mind from your fan mind or you'll go for what you want and not sell anything.

Hey fellow Bryan - just wanted to add one way I've been flipping: Buying rough Raw, doing CPR and selling raw. E.g. Getting some TLC to some of the diamonds in the rough and flipping them without having to sub them. It's what helped me kickstart funding the hobby again.

I’m reluctant to submit to CGC due to the long turnaround times- a book could no longer be hot by the time I get it back. I like the idea of buying books that have already been graded and flipping them.

I agree, I only send in golden age books to CGC these days. Older detective comics, Pre code horror never drops in value. But would never send in modern spec books, turnaround time is way too long and value drops.

What a great video, I don't see myself cracking open any slabs just for the risk involved but I do very much like the first three methods of flipping comics. I feel like there are always comics out there that are undervalued that you can either by raw or already slabbed that can be had for low prices especially before one of the streaming networks secures the rights to the stories and then you see the price spikes.

Your initial recommendation to use funds from the "flips" to fund the growth are spot on. I've been doing that with coins for roughly 6 years now and what started as an initial $50 deposit in a separate account has grown to roughly $5k in asset wealth. I mean, I'm not getting rich on it or opening up a shop but it's a hobby and discipline to use those funds as if they're a business account. Without risking everyday funds or future savings, i.e. 401k & such. Spreadsheets come in handy when it comes to bigger purchases. I generally reserve it for coins I've bought raw and submitted to make sure I have the sales data. Not every sold item is the same profit margin but if you have the data you figure out what your targets should be and your risk appetite for certain items. Good luck on your journey and good luck on that storefront! Comic shop owner was always one of my "if you could do anything what would you do?" interview answers so I totally get it.

In regards to the CPR method, another thing to note would be to look up the grader notes for books before buying/cracking to see if they are pressable defects. I did this with an ebay listing for a 6.5 slab. The $5 for the notes was worth it as I was only paying $20 for the book haha. Cracked, cleaned, pressed and off to CGC.
