not every series will be the same, struggle to understand your comment given part 2 & 3 were all about 4wding? We record/document how it happens sometime plenty of driving others not and yes we travel so I guess it is a travel show in some shape of form. We don't make things up like flipping cars and getting bogged on purpose. Perhaps give me your feedback at the end of this series as a whole. Cheers Ronny

Another great one Ronny! Just one thing about the turtles: It's best not to use any light around them because they get disoriented from light sources other than the natural moon light. They might end up going the wrong way and not finding the water.
@Ronny_Dahl5 жыл бұрын
something we only just learnt while we were there as they were following the light. At which point we walked to the water before turning the lights off. We also didnt want to step on them which is a bit difficult without light.

A radial tire patch kit would be handy for that trailer tire. The style that has the large patches that you apply to the inside of the tire. Yeah, you have to take the outside of the tire off the bead to the outside of the rim/wheel, but it can save the day when the cord-style patches can't fix the leak. I keep both styles of patches in my jeep, just in case. That said, I love following the adventures of you and your merry crew! LOL! 23:05 the tire has built-in curb feelers! Hey Ronnie, I have a dumb question: Can you fit high-flotation tires to the trailer for off-pavement use? Like ATV tires or something? Or swap the hubs to fit A/T or M/T tires?

Have you ever considered building a boat trailer with air suspension, so that you could run bigger tires? For fenders, what we have done on old cars is attach them to the backing plate so they stay with the tire height and then the trailer level goes up and down with the air suspension. It would make it so you could take the boat more places and not worry about damage or having to drive as slow. Just a thought. Keep up with the great episodes.

Ronny, during the segment when you were repairing the trailer tire (20:00 min mark), you utilized the insulating screwdriver to help open the bead of the tire against the rim. I just want to advise and for you to keep in mind that any compromise on the insulation of those types of screwdrivers will truly inhibit their ability to protect the user if used on any electrically live hardware. It would be best to separate the electrically insulated tools from the kit and place general use screwdrivers in their place. It seems though in your common use (offroading/overlanding/exploration), that electrically insulated tools are not applicable, just their function as a tool is what's necessary so my comment may not be relevant. Great videos! Please keep them coming!
@RainBoxRed5 жыл бұрын
A lot of "she'll be right" kind of people would be frustrated by your approach, but I support you. I mean, really you shouldn't use any screwdriver for a lever application. Use a pry bar.

Independent suspension and a decent set of tyres on that boat trailer is the go.
@stevecrop62645 жыл бұрын
A decent set of higher profile tyres is the only thing required. Hundreds of standard boat trailers been over to dirk hartog. Matching the trailer track to the vehicle also makes a big difference in sand.

I vote that they ditch the boat and go for a pack of PWCs on a custom offroad worthy trailer. They can run these in smaller waters, bigger waters, beach them, etc...

Yeah getting sprayed with salt water is pretty much a given in windy conditions, put on ya dive masks. Good decision fixing those tyre sidewall punctures, last time it happened to me it was the left side of the boat trailer , only had about 2km to camp so decided to run it flat , the tyre cut was too big to plug , the steel rim got badly bent but somehow got it round enough with the good old hammer when I later removed the tyre. Gave up using those galvanized danforth type sand anchors , too many times they drag in the sand , now use a Coopers black anchor , its plastic and light but I trust it .

Seems like you guys had almost as hard a time finding fish as we did in June. At least you got to see more marine life. The island looks like a top place to visit. Dirk Hartog or Dirck Hatichs, was the first European confirmed to set foot in W.A. but he was probably beaten to Australia (in general) by Portuguese sailors as two Portuguese canons were found on Cannonade Island and were dated no later than 1525. Williem Jansz (or Janszoon) is said to have come ashore near the mouth of the Pennyfather River in 1605-6. We have a page on the early explorers for anyone who is interested in finding out more at wanowandthen.com/explorers.html

MrLangDog what colour lights do they use?
@wikkidme7555 жыл бұрын
MrLangDog any light distracts them from doing there initial run down the beach where they will get there bearings on there location for the long swim to feeding grounds. Short of it is don’t use torches, stand in the dark for a few minutes and let your eyes adjust and you can see just fine on an open beach. When we are doing data collection we walk the beach all night with no light and get plenty of turtles.
