Because of your videos showing propylene glycol as being mostly inert, and since I'm in a temperate climate that sees more cold than hot, I paid the little extra to get coolant that uses propylene so it's non-toxic and inert. I already had one bike that the coolant turned black, after a year of sitting, and I don't want that happening again

There's 31 minutes 36 seconds of my life I won't get back Sir. I wonder how much bigger and heavier a radiator would need to be for oil🤔 I'm going to look up heat conductivity on the inter-web
@willyck9483 жыл бұрын
found some rough numbers water cools %60 better than light oil and is about %15 heavier than light oil. so you'd need 2 times the size of a radiator about %190 heavier if running engine at same running temperature since oil doesn't produce as much pressure you could run higher temperatures and slightly smaller radiator and youd have to plum it without rubber hoses🤔

It must be a dye, why it loves magnesium so much is worth questioning as it didn't cling to anything else or even form a sedimentary layer in the pot
@motorcyclegarage23073 жыл бұрын
Looking at this - maybe magnesium alloy should not be used in a cooling system !? Also I could have saved some money by using Comma instead of Motul recently. You would want to change the Evans every 4 years for sediment reasons.

The only thing that might bias the results is the way in which the metal items touch in the jar - e.g. if the magnesium is in good electrical contact with other metals it will rot more through electrolytic corrosion than if it is by itself.

But these metals are in electrical contact with each other in a working bike...

Fantastic stuff there Matt! Some peculiar goo in amongst em... makes me wonder if some of those goos are chemical or biological? ie are some of those bacterial archea that you have cultured? Magnesium not playing nice is not really a suprise given how reactive it is, really interesting, Nice one 👍😀

So which ones have organic corrosion inhibitors and which ones have silicate inhibitors? I might be getting carried away with some Del Boy level of science and logic but surely that is the key thing? Especially with how they work eg, silicates must flow to have an abrasive effect which you won’t get in your containers. Organic acid inhibitors should show better results in a stagnant container

That was a long THREE AND A HALF YEARS... Joking aside it's good to see the differences between them and how the materials react. Ideally a control batch of one metal in its own batch of solution to see if any reaction is caused by other metals being present. But as all my bikes are air cooled it doesn't really bother me... 🤣
@dirtygarageguy3 жыл бұрын

so this video is basically saying: if you buy a bike that's been standing for while, don't just change out the fluids, flush the cooling system. in any case: corrosion in the engine might bite you later on, even if it's low mileage.
