Russ, NUMEROUS "Russ is Right" subscribers reached out to me today and politely explained how foolish I have been for not providing a bike to you for review! The team at WIRED would be honored if you would consider providing a review for our newly designed Cruiser model. I understand your hesitation to test the 41mph speed of this beauty....however....I must demand that you allow the WIRED Cruiser an opportunity to fight for the King of the Hill status!! All eyes will be watching this epic event, pitting the Cruiser against the Deer 20 for the ultimate title! Production models will be available in few weeks and I could provide you one then. Steven

Well, that is very kind of you. Obviously, I am indebted to my loyal viewers once again. While you know my stance on the 40 mph bike just from watching this video, I would be honored to give your new bike a fair and honest review. I know that many of my viewers have been asking me to do this, but as you know from watching the video today, I leave it to the manufacturers to reach out if they want me to work with them. So, sure, I would be happy to receive the Cruiser in exchange for a video review. Please email me at contactrussisright@gmail.com to go over details and exchange further info. Once again, thanks for offering your new ebike for review. - Russ

Hi Russ, So glad that Wired reached out to you buddy… I am one of the folks that suggested to them your channel might be a good fit especially with the new design due to the long range aspect (2100wh should easily get you around 65-75 miles of range going 18-22mph like you do) I hardly comment as I’m a TV watcher and I just subscribed tonight even though your videos get sent to me every Mon Tues Thurs and Sat. My wife still has her Magicycle Ocelot Pro but I sold my Magicycle Cruiser last year and bought the 2024 Wired Freedom and I really like it! The power is there when you need it especially up a hill as you will soon see when it hits 22mph on the hill test!! Just program for a slower start (for your safety) on PAS but you should still have full power under throttle which helps get you out of tough situations… The new Wired Cruiser will be my next bike as having dual suspension in a step thru is just awesome - I’m sure you will enjoy and make dozens of videos with the Wired bike because it really performs in many ways other than just raw power. Take care,

I am 71. I am no longer young and reckless and don't have the need for speed. However, with that being said . I still am not willing to drive around in an underpowered VW bug or a 50cc scooter. There has to be a balance. I would like to have speed and power at my disposal when a situation requires it. Such as steep hills and pulling away from a standstill situation. Also power and quick response time and when trying to avoid unsafe conditions. Just because you have it doesn't mean you have to flaunt it. At the end of long ride or pending bad weather, it's nice to know you can cruise back home safe and sound. For the past three years I have been riding a heavy 26 inch wheel ebike with 48v, 20AH battery with 18 amp controller, with a 500w rear hub motor. I find this to be just a little underpowered. I feel a few more volts and a lot more amps, and perhaps a larger motor would help with performance. Be wise, stay alert ⚠️ , watch out for the other guy and motorist and ride safe.

Looks like I see the E-Bike company near you is offering their new updated Cruiser to you. I ordered the Freedom inspiring version in early April and will be getting the new model as well. Why did I order that bike with all the choices out there? It fit what I was looking for. Top Speed is just a bonus. I wanted a fat tire bike for mostly cruising paths. I wanted it to look mostly like a mountain bike, without the lean over rider positions MTB's generally offer. I plan on using this bike as a Adventure bike. The main reason I bought it is for fun. It just looks fun. I'm 60 now, have raced BMX and toured thousands of miles on nothing but pedals. I could pedal faster than a Class 3. I've hit 55MPH on 1" tires, which was terrifyingly fun, descending out of Yosemite, passing 3 cars in the process. I'm just gonna cruise this bike, not terrorize trails like I'm in sort of mini version of Isle of Man TT on the bike path. LOL 😁

I have an EUC that’ll go 40ish or above depending on charge, but I rarely go 35, usually 30 or less most rides. I do like that no hill will knock me below 25 and I can accelerate like crazy if I want to. The main times I go fast is if I encounter a 35 mph road that I need to go on to get up to the next neighborhood road, but I don’t want to go full blast most of the time. I go fast mostly just to be safer and to get off that road as fast as possible. I’d certainly buy a faster ebike in the right circumstances. I can confirm the reasons why having a more powerful bike might appeal, but would add hill climbing. You don’t have to go fast if you don’t want to, but it’s nice to have the power available sometimes.

So do you want to go up a hill at 4-5 mph with a lot of work with a 750 watt motor, or 10-15mph with a more powerful bike. Plus class three bikes are not allowed on most trails in Michigan.

I think Wired Freedom is named freedom for a reason. Freedom to choose the class you are riding in by setting speed limiter in settings oneself rather then being regulated by manufacture. A big bonus of these more powerful freedom to choose class bikes is you also gain torque , wanna go up that hill fast then you want freedom. My wife and I have two Magicycles cruisers and Himiway both known for good torque but still limited by small controller and customer regulated speed limiters reducing to European like standards every quarter it seams. If your a commuter and it’s only safe to flow with traffic hope you have the Freedom to do so. Wanna rip around your own property at your own pace then you want the Freedom to do so. Me, for my next bike as Mel Gibson said best I want “FREEDOM” Wired of coarse.

There is nothing like the sound of an ocean to help one remember or forget. I feel the same with riding ebikes. It has a way of clearing the head. Russ in answer to your question, no I would not buy a high speed ebike. If I want speed I can choose to ride e-motorcycles that are now in the market. In the spirit of ebiking, too many regulations would loose my interest in biking. I can live with ebike Class 2 and be fine. Speed becomes marginal with Class 3. With regards to stability, the mass of an ebike at some point would fail at high speed, not to mention the hazards we would be creating with the public out for a stroll. So thumbs up to keeping ebikes slow and trail safe👍

Hi Russ, would I try the “W” bike that will do 40 MPH? Yes I would unlock it. When I was younger, I loved riding fast on my bicycle. I’ve ridden close to 50 MPH going down hill and I rode with bike racers. Now in my 70’s, I’d like to have the ability to ride faster when situations dictate ie: out running dogs, getting out of the way of cars and maybe even some people. I would not ride at that speed routinely, but at a speed to keep up with traffic. I agree that keeping up with traffic is much safer. I am more of a street rider. Thanks for the platform to share our thoughts. I too live in the Chicago area and may try the “W” bike.

Great discussion Russ. With speed comes higher risk for damage not only to the rider but to what ever you crash into. If you do not have insurance your could be paying out a lot of money to settle damages. Furthermore, rider reaction times are compromised at higher speed resulting in less time to make maneuvering decisions that will keep you out of harms way. Where I ride in rural Chester county PA, there is always a chance that a deer, fox, rabbit, squirrel, opossum will dart out in front of you as you ride. At higher speeds you are likely to hit them if they run out in front of you. Your total weight -bike and rider- are likely to become unstable and you loose control and are having a wipe out. At slower speeds you have a better chance of maintaining control or avoiding the animal completely. Lastly, if you are a heavy rider and/or ride in an area that has extensive hills, then the added power of 750+ watts will make it easier to get around.

Me, I do not like doing much over 20mph. But I do not ride busy, city/town streets. You have excellent reviews, so I can see why companies would want to send you an ebike. its not the speed, it's the torque to get there(hill, hills, hills). Where I ride the bike(wallke h6st) dips down to 6mph with pedaling up hills. Usually, torque comes with wattage unless it is shunt modded. The only ones that do super awesome on hills are the duals but they need 40ah of battery for distance.I want e-cells or wired for single motor.

Most states, it is listed as a pedal assist only, no throttle. I also have discovered that the 750 W is the peak limit, not nominal. Hi Russ! My Ebike has a top speed of 15mph but I have it unlocked so I can do 20mph. There is a trail near me that I do ride on and it allows all Ebikes and has a speed limit of 15mph. When I'm on that trail I do keep my speed locked so I won't exceed the speed limit, however lol I think I'm the only one that does it because people just fly right past me and either yell at me or give me the evil eye for going "to slow" even though I'm doing the limit lol. I would like an Ebike that will take me up to 28mph but not much faster than that. In my opinion anything over 28mph is crazy and if someone wants to go faster than just get a motorcycle.

I generally go 13-15 mph on the bike trails as I like getting some range, too. However, to me, the biggest speed culprits on the American River Bike Trail (32 miles long from Sacramento to Folsom) are the analog road bikers. Those dudes are regularly going over 20mph & believe the trail belongs ONLY to them. They hate, equally, ebikers, hikers, mothers with strollers, runners, walkers, horseback riders... everyone. Granted, the dudes, mostly kids, going fast on their Surron's give ebikers a bad name, but, other than those, the vast majority of bikers out there now are ebikers, which I know just grinds the gears of the wanna-be Lance Armstrongs wearing their racing kits on a suburban multi-use trail.

Many people want high powered bikes so that they can safely keep up with traffic on suburban roads. 750watt is ridiculously underpowered for a fat tire bike if there are any hills or a slight breeze and 28mph is too slow and puts you right in the crosshairs of suburban traffic. The original classifications were arbitrary and are clearly outdated given changes in technology. The Wired Cruiser or Freedom at $2000 for a 2100 watt hour battery with a 60v 3200 watt peak motor is just as home on the bike path as on street. I never ride over 35mph personally, but I want to accelerate quickly when needed for safety. Don’t ride like a jerk and ride slow and be courteous on bike paths when near others. It would be a shame to see a new form of EV eliminated by a bunch of Karen’s.

Hey Russ, you finally went off road around that fallen tree🤣Anyway, lots to talk about on a great topic. Yeah I just ordered the Wired Crusier and yes it does 40 mph but I purchased it bc of other reasons; second 60A integrated battery on the rear rack for extended range, 56T 11/28 flywheel to reduce ghost peddling, BMX style handlebars, rear air suspension, updated color display and the all new step thru design. The rear hub motor is relatively quite even at high speeds and with 153nm of torque will provide the acceleration I want, especially when competing with cars. Will I go 40 mph? Probably not!😂But low 30+ mph yes and prefer 22-28 mph. The Wired Crusier is UL certified not just the battery but all electrical components. Ebikes are not all about speed and throttling past 40 mph. I wanted a quality ebike with great design, and 2 integrated batteries. This met my needs all with no price increase from the previous models. Out the door price low $2,400 with tax, insurance and shipping. I highly considered the Ariel Rider Grizzly V3 with dual batteries but was $1,000 more and the Wired was a better option. I'm glad you said you would take one if offered. I certainly hope Wired provides you with one to review bc you would provide an honest, informative and detailed review. I believe your demographics would be interested in this. But it doesn't mean that you would have to go 40+ mph on Rand Road🤣Simply ride your ebike the way you want to, what you feel comfortable at and just enjoy it! Just my 2 cents😂Great video as always Russ👍

The Federal government's definition of electric bicycle classifications from the very beginning never allowed a throttle on a Class 3 bike. It's the manufacturers that tried to redefine what a Class 3 bike was by allowing a throttle to only assist up to 20 mph. We currently have very little government regulations of e-bikes but if more bikes are sold that go faster than 28 mph it is eventual that government (most likely at the state level) will come out with more restrictive regulations. We are starting to see this in some states where they require registration and insurance for Class 3 e-bikes. As for trail riding, almost all trails here in Florida have speed limits but not class limits. I can ride my Class 3 bike (which does not have a throttle) on a trail as long as I don't exceed the speed limit.

Personally as someone in my mid 50's i prefer distance over speed, although if i was still in my 20's i would probably want speed 😆For instance one of my Bikes has a 1000w motor with a 20ah battery, and i use the limit wire on the controller to limit the power, but it can cover a fair distance on a single charge. Edit...to add, here in the UK, we are limited to a 250w motor 15.5Mph and Throttle is banned, but many people do use bigger motors and throttles, there is talk that UK may increase Max Motor Power to 500 W in the near future.

Faster the better for me. I've owned motorcycles most of my life, so speed on two wheels is no issue for me. I've gone as fast or even faster than these e-bikes you are talking about on my regular road bikes. Mountain descents in Colorado up to 50mph, 40mph downhills in my area all the time. I ride most of the time on my local country and gravel roads. Nobody cares how fast you ride on those roads.

Yes and no. Yes I'd buy a bike with that capability, and no I wouldn't unlock the top speed. I'm quite satisfied with the speed of my 750 watt bike, but what I would like is more hill climbing power. Like you I'm a heavier guy in my 60s,but unlike you I live in a very hilly area. I have no interest in going 40 mph, but more power on hills would be nice. As for the ratings, as usual they're way more complicated than they need to be. I don't really see what difference a throttle makes. Class 1 - 250 watts or less. Class 2 - 250-500 watts. Class 3 - 500-750 watts. Class 4 (requires a drivers license) - 750-1500 Watts +. Class 5 (Requires a motorcycle license) - Over 1500 Watts. You could adjust the numbers of course, but you get the idea. That is simple, universal, and would make sense instead of this over complicated mess we have now. How I ride: On the streets, if I'm riding for a workout I keep it in PA1 and pedal. If I'm riding to get somewhere (like to a trail), I put it in PA5 (roughly 25 mph with me riding, capable of 28 with a lighter rider) and throttle. On trails I ride in PA1 and peddle, and PA1 on my bike is about 14 mph.

I have no interest in getting an ebike that violates bike rules that allow me to travel in areas where bikes are allowed. In my state, if your ebike doesn't classify as class 1 2 or 3 then you have to register it and pay taxes and insurance on it and are not allowed on sidewalks or biking paths. Besides that, when I'm going downhill and my speed gets above 30, it gets a bit scary due to me imagining how painful wrecking at this speed will be.

We really need to discuss motors. What makes a motor 750W? Is it the max capability before it burns out (some think this)? Is it the nominal rating that the motor can run continously as long as it's fed (most fall in this camp)? For the latter doesn't a 2KW motor fall into that catagory as long as the controller doesn't feed it more than 750W? Heck I've run Bafang 250W geared hub motors at over 600W with no issues, and I know other tinkerers that run them in the kilowatt range with some mods. I'm really getting over this whole Watt limit and we should be focusing on speed limits. For example my 26" 750W Bafang mid drive (44T chainring) can move me up my street at 12mph with full throttle, It takes a 1200W 24" hub motor to move me at the same speed on the same hill (in both cases I was using a 52v battery). The latter bike's controller also put out 13 more Amps. I doubt the same hub motor, limited to 750W, would have gotten me up the hill (which is the whole point of e-bikes).

I wanted to comment about unlocking. Compare bikes to motorized vehicles. Let's say max speed limit is 55. It's up to people if they want to do 55 or 85 and up to the law to stop it. Actually, I'm sick of government regulations. I guess the real problem is, idiots flying by people walking on trails. When riding on the roads here in Indiana, the same laws are for bicycles too. You obey stops signs, etc. and you can get fined for speeding especially in school zones. There are just too many non compliant people riding bicycles.

I advocated long ago for anything that is not a true class one class two or class three to be nine something different or the regulations were coming. Here we are. The general public feels like all E bikes are super fast. Basically motorcycles with an electric motor. Of course that’s not correct. But that also is irrelevant that it is not correct. The regulations are definitely on their way. Hopefully it won’t go the same direction as drones, were three wheel off-road motorcycles from decades ago. I will also add there is a huge misunderstanding of what a true class of ebike is.

Most of those 40 mph bikes components are so mediocre that I wouldn’t trust riding them and think I could stop or hit the first big bump and have no control. That said I have a 40+ bike I built with top of the line components and trust it to stop on a dime if need be with suspension that is well over $1500 to withstand just about anything I hit. I ride most of the time at around 150w pedaling with a max pas set at 350w and throttle 1000w. Bike is capable of 5Kw but rarely ever use accept to get off busy roads. Just be respectful and we all can enjoy our e-bikes for a very long time. Cheers
