Great review of a great sculpture of a great dinosaur! I liked that the review examined if the statue is paleontologically and anatomically accurate, and during this video the reviewer combined scientific facts about Triceratops. The review is detailed with very good footage and visuals. I agree with the review that this is an awesome Triceratops statue. Well done!

Thanks Zachi! It's great to get feedback like yours as it helps me to improve all the time! Triceratops is fascinating and it's a very exciting time for dinosaur lovers these last few years. Plenty of new discoveries and study techniques that reveal detail we never imagined we ever would from fossils. Even colour!

Thank you for your comment! I am trying to improve still, plenty to work on! For example in this video you can see that I could have used much better lighting. Actually I was thinking I might redo some of these old Sideshow ones in future, maybe next year! Thank you for your support!

Thanks, Great video. This thing is on 20% off + free US shipping today. I placed the order immediately after half way through this video. My long-lonely T-rex statue will finally meet his pal of fate.
@DinosDragons8 жыл бұрын
Congratulations! You won't regret it. And you being the States means no shipping so it's fantastic. If you mean that you have the newest T Rex from SS, you are in for an amazing experience. That's also 1:15 scale I believe, so they are wonderful to display together!

Yes, I have the newest SS T-Rex. I bought it a year ago. No extra money to buy the Triceratops back then. I was surprised to see it still being available, not to mention the 20% off. By the way, the T-Rex is on 20% off as well if anyone wants to pick it up. These two statues are designed to be side by side, they have the same scale, exact same color of base material and...their pose.

Awesome! I am sure you have a very impressive iconic display with those two! I didn't quite like the sculpt of that T Rex, something about the posture, but I've seen pictures of them together, and am having second thoughts!

Because a full grown T-rex like SUE (see her new posture) was very bulky with a thick neck...even more than this sideshow Tyrant king...but it comes close. For me it´s a good living exemple of a SUE (without some feather parts...whatever)...the body looks very lively! Then the leg position, walking pose looks very good and the overall proportions are right. Head to body to tail... arm size. Even more the Sideshow Triceratops. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triceratops#/media/File:LA-Triceratops_mount-2.jpg The skeletons show you enormous massive front legs and shoulders... most toys and sculptures have a far too weak front section of Triceratops. I mean this animal has the most massive head of all land living animals...there must be a neck and front limbs to hold and use that...it´s logic! So look at the skeletons frontlegs and shoulder and look at this sculpture... the only sculpt that is a 1to1 build around with flesh! The only right sculpted body so far... That´s an overall problem it seems...90% of the paleo artists don´t deven use a skeleton or bone parts as template it seems. Then I look at the pictures and ask myself ... how could these real found bones or entire skeletons fit in this painted animal. Another good exemple: Patagotitan Maximo Field Museum skeleton build has a nearly straight back and big but not super huge neck bones... Then look at these pictures... most skeleton scale pictues have nothing to do with the skeleton builds in museums. The look like their neck is 50% of the body. Sureley with air sacks and esophagus etc... the overall neck was very massive, but this looks wired! www.deviantart.com/randomdinos/art/Patagotitan-mayorum-skeletal-reconstruction-762150985

You had said you are not very fond of the added black rocky base. I first found it a little odd, but I have grown to prefer it. If you have not, here are some thoughts to consider. I assume it is meant to represent the KT boundary, obviously not be part of the diorama but be part of the artistic presentation meant to clean your visual pallet (like space and frame around a painting), while smartly avoiding man made surfaces. Also as a sculptor, I also feel the lower base lets the artists design with any landscape type without having to make it too thick for structural integrity. My stegosaurus does not have the black base and I feel it makes it look cheaper and like an odd mud mound. Also, in away, it serves as protective fence, if banged, chipped or nicked, it would be hard to notice. Almost forgot to mention, I really very much enjoy your reviews. Far more than any other persons. The added information you provide adds so much value to your reviews.
@DinosDragons8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joshua, it certainly gives me a new perspective, and appreciate your thoughts as a sculptor. You certainly have a point about structural integrity being maintained, yet allowing the landscape surface to be unlimited in possibility. It does add height though, so I have to get a new display cabinet made!

where is available to buy just that model?
@DinosDragons5 жыл бұрын
You could try ebay. Unfortunately, Sideshows are snapped up pretty fast and most who buy are serious collectors so you won't find a lot on the secondary market. I saw one on ebay though, maybe you can grab that one!

Nice sculpted model, but i don't like the black stripes on the back.
@DinosDragons8 жыл бұрын
Oh why is that? I thought the stripes add a bit of character and interest to the usual drab colours you find. Actually wait... that's not too accurate. Checkout the ceratopsians from Collecta that come out each year!

Sideshow dinosaur always give the best texture and detail ever with very very poor paint job...
@DinosDragons5 жыл бұрын
I would say that if you compare to the prototype pictures, you'll definitely be disappointed. It's really quite sad that they have such an amazing sculpt and with better applications, there is so much more potential that could be extracted. However, paintjob is still better than many of the mass produced models, especially the old Carnegies. I think at this higher scale, you just have more room for subtlety to play with.
@ABC44755 жыл бұрын
DinosDragons It seems like they stop making dinosaurs now...so sad. We have no chance to get the new one anymore.
