Because she didn't use lubrication when doing the nipple part, someone from behind-the-scenes who just happened to know better jumped in to stop the scene from resuming. Because there was no lubrication on his nipple, she more than likely would have torn it off. Ouch.

Another fun fact about that scene is that Romany Malco left the room, because he couldn't stand the sight of what was going on. Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen stayed around though, laughing. It was 100% real and completely unscripted. All of Steve Carell's lines were just what he said at the time. And they were supposed to wax the entire thing, but when Steve Carell gets up at the end and says he's done, he was legitimately saying he was done with the scene and wouldn't do it anymore.

@@hughjorg4008 It was a stage musical first in the late 1960s, and a lot of musicians covered a lot of the songs between the show and the movie, for many eclipsing the popularity of either. The 5th Dimension's cover of opening song "Age of Aquarius" in which they tacked on the coda of the closing song "The Flesh Failures (Let the Sunshine In)" is one of the more famous covers and likely what the ending of Virgin is thenselves directly covering.

It really helps that it was real. That was Carell really getting waxed. He knew he had to make funny reactions, but they didn't script any of it. They hired a professional waxer to do it, only to find out way, waaay too late that she lied to get the part and didn't think she would have to actually wax someone for real. I think that is what made the scene so funny. Even not knowing that, the reaction came out way funnier than most scripted parts.

When Steve Carell goes tearing after Trish on his bike, the music playing over the scene is "Heat of the Moment" by Asia, the band whose poster was on his apartment wall. From the director's commentary the music was originally going to be "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS, but they changed it because they felt the Asia song fit better with what Andy would've had playing in his own head while chasing after the woman of his dreams. One of my favorite gags in the entire movie.

My aunt used to run her own beauty salon. Hair cannot be too long or too short for waxing. If it’s too short, it’s not coming out if it’s too long, it just gets in the way a little so you usually trim the hair down to about half an inch that’s ideal for waxing, according to my aunt.

Waxing anything is just like waxing anything else. Stings the first couple of times and then stops bothering you for the most part. I don't think trimming is necessary since the wax is grabbing all of the flattened hair and tugging it out regardless of if it's a long hair or a short hair, so either way it's going to be the same sensation.
@Cheepchipsable
@Cheepchipsable Жыл бұрын
@@nochannel1q2321 Itching from shaving stops after the first time or two, but I think waxing is more in the technique. Stretching the skin before so it is taught, then pulling the strip off quickly. You would want to trim it shorter so you are not grabbing a bunch of hairs on the periphery which just end up getting pulled on rather than pulled out. Having said that there are lidocaine based anaesthetic creams/sprays you might b able to use. They have them for tattooing which reduces the pain, so I can't see why they couldn't be used for chest waxing.

It shows both sides of it I think. Andy is very lonely without any human connection but the guys cheat on their girlfriend, obsess over an ex and lead an empty life of debauchery. I like that by the end it's not just Andy who changes. They stop cheating, stop obsessing over their ex and Seth at least finds a partner instead of going to horse fucking shows. It's like yeah no sex is no fun but going too far the other way leads to a different kind of emptiness.

As a Southern California resident, a LOT of these location-shot places were VERY familiar. The store that they work at used to be a Circuit City on Ventura Blvd. The bookstore where he picks up the blonde (I believe that's Elizabeth Banks) is actually a very popular bookstore in Pasadena (Vromans) which has been there forever (a GREAT bookstore, btw - the owner actually helped a friend found the bookstore chain "B Dalton's" (I believe) - there are handwritten "recommendations" on the shelves from the employees who've actually read the books on like Post-Its - I've picked up quite a few amazing new books to read based on those recommendations. And it's STILL in business!)

Great movie. The scene with the wax is real :) Steve Carell did it for real and swears the all time that's why they all lough :) .The ending scene is a spoof on the movie "Hair" 1979

"Is this an abstinence movie?" Yes. In fact, a lot of "raunchy" sex comedies actually have a weirdly conservative underlying message that sexual promiscuity is bad.

This is the film that shook off the inanities of American Pie and the early Adam Sandler movies and created a new sophisticated American raunchy comedy, supported by a cast that all became world famous after this movie. Think, would Superbad had been ever made without this film?

Teen Wolf (the movie they mention) would make a hilarious reaction. It's a teen comedy where Michael J Fox discovers he's actually a Werewolf. It was surprisingly popular in the 80s

I avoided this movie pretty much my whole life because I felt like this I mean I have more experience then he had in this movie, but still virgin. Now, sitting at 31, I understand his mindset of “well shit. Did I miss my chance? Is it too late?” Haven’t completely given up on it yet, but definitely seems like I’m not far from acceptance at this point. And the thing is, I’m a one woman kinda guy. I have never been the kinda guy lookin for casual whatever.

I'm 32, and I've only made out with a guy when I was 18. That's it. I don't like intimacy at all, not even sitting close to someone, including family and friends. I wish I was "normal", but I'm not 😅 I have autism, so that might play into it.

Casual sex is like junk food. I have some pretty terrible memories around it. Also, too much of it makes it really hard for a normal relationship. There's a big difference between people desperately looking to have sex, and still not having any, versus people who are holding out for what they want. If you're waiting for the right person, the right relationship, then you absolutely have not missed your chance.

It's a really touching film at heart, although its crudeness can sometimes mask that. It works though. I don't recall seeing a film do it to this extent and as successfully.
