My philosophy was about saving as much as you can when you have full employment. When you lose your job, it gives you more options. There are no permanent jobs, or permanent businesses in this day and age.

I have always lived a simple life and very focused on paying up my house and building retirement funds. Now that I'm financially free. People who looked down on me before when I didnt have what they have. Let them gloat all they want. When the time comes and if they are over leveraged... Good on them. I feel so free. And im Not afraid of losing my job. Cheers.

These job fairs are a waste of time, most of them are there just to show support. The jobs available are still those that nobody wants unless you want to compete with the low wage foreign talent.

@MaxGarmin, fully agree! I used to think that going for job fair can help to expand my job search network till I visited one in October 2023 by WSG. All the participating employers are for cleaners (cleaning tables in coffee shops, washing toilets and clear the garbage bins of coffee shops), fast food restaurant crews, MOE schools supporting staffs and other jobs that totally does not match my experience and knowledge. I have been working as an accounts assistant for many years. Wanting to apply as retail assistant at Japan Home and Daiso, location is super far (I lived in North-West of Sembawang, but location in Jurong Point, Bedok Reservoir Road, and other locations in the East). Now at 52 this year, the outlook for me is even cloudy. Even engaging a WSG accredited consultancy firm does not help much! I applied for accounting jobs with lower pay (willing to lower my expected salary by up to S$1000/month) and hiring company would disregard my job applications. Sad! :(

well not that many people can be like Mr Ng that can get a job immediately after being sacked by the populace. Well, I wonder if Mr Ng did actually go for upskilling before taking onto the new job. On the other hand we have Mr Tan who claimed that trends cannot be predicted whilst collecting a fat pay check!

We may lose more if JB is ready. Problems will more pronounced if you have home loans, cars loans, new born, renovations loans, high cost of living, living expenses, health problems etc. Jobs fair is talk, talk events. Wow, your advice is great and so reassuring, but all these happened on them la. We loved all the toys displayed on your video back ground. We love your talks.

The issue is that singaporean are not learning fast enuf and companies have to hire from overseas. Our GDP growth are mainly driven by big foreign MNCs who hire globally and so happen to be "convinced" to be set up in Singapore. Don't assume jobs will come to Singapore automatically as talents are global and companies are global too. Singaporean need to have a global mindset. Complaining about foreign talents will not help as foreign/local talents goes where mncs are.

It’s happening in China, developing too fast into technology and making a lot of jobs to be redundant. The job fair always have jobs in the service sector, not for degree holders in the first place

Once this SEZ and RTS is set up..all your local hawker jobs will be wipe out as Malaysian workers and Singaporeans have easy access to spend in JB .

PAP govt NOT doing enough to protect Singaporeans in their job security while their minister jobs is protected due to daft voters who themselves are suffering but don't want to give opposition to speak up for the local citizens.

Glad to know that Inal not the only one that is with that view on these so called work fairs. Hope that you are able to find a suitable job soon. As for me, I am all done with work and corporate life since 2023, now in ‘retirement planning’ stage. Would only entertain work if it is of interest and something that would fit into my plans, else I wouldn’t want to exchange my time for more grief and money that I may drop dead in the process. I am of the belief that me and my other half should start enjoying the fruits of our labour. Here is a food for thought, when we reach the age of above 50, we should start thinking about how many more ‘Good, Healthy & Active’ do we have left before we leave this life, my take is probably another 10-15 years before our bodies starts to turn frail and be excluded from most activities, while going to the doctors and hospitals is going to be more frequent. Just my 2 cents.

Virtual Career Coach? AI taking away our jobs riao gg
@jasxteo4 күн бұрын
even career coaches are at risk. I used their service before but it doesn't help. In the end, I used a paid resume writing service and it at least gave me more interviews chances than the free one. the thing is, those jobs in demand now belong in the hands of a very small group of people. So these career fairs Alvin has correctly pointed out, it is not suitable as they are often lower paid jobs but long hours. At least Alvin has flexibility to work multiple jobs simultaneously to make up a decent amount of money.

Dont mind my suggestion😅. If you can, is it possible for you to cut down the unnecessary details like repeating info on your age, retrenchment and stuff etc🥴🤔?? In this video, you go round round, pause to catch your thoughts or words but didn't get to the point quickly. I tried to fast forward, but still I dont see your key point or message. Finally, I didn't finish your video n exited. Just some 2cts thoughts. Maybe you are new to doing videos, it's ok to learn along the way. But do bear in mind that unless you are doing some documentaries (long narration), please keep your stuff short, and concise to the point... Maybe you could pre-script your dialogue beforehand, do some basic "speech" rehearsals (of the script) before actual filming your video. Don't take my words too seriously and dont be discouraged. Just perhaps do (your own) review and approach video production more effectively/ efficiently. Apologies, I have no bad intentions. Cheers 😁😇.
