That IS38 swap would def do 160+mph. I’ve hit 155 on my Stage 2 MK7 GTI 6spd manual, and that was with a full suspension mountain bike attached to my roof racks on top. I would’ve been able to do 160+ easily without my bike on top. The MK7 GTI is a beast with a tune, and especially with the IS38!!

Personally, I think 400 hp in a FWD car is completely pointless, because without serious aero, you'll never get all of that power down except in a straight line... so it's essentially pointless unless you're drag racing. That extra 180 hp is pretty much useless in the turns.

+The Ranter have you ever driven a fwd car with a lsd? Its such a huge difference cause the lsd drags the car towards the inside of the corner...i experienced that myself in a mk1 ford focus RS with ~300bhp and it had decent grip powering out of the corners while having 0 torque steer.

Back when I frequented the MKIV forum on VWVortex, a 400hp GTI (1.8T) had to have a "built" engine and was a really intensive build. To be able to get that with a larger turbo and tune (amongst a few other boltons) is pretty crazy to me.

That's the track we would go to when I was a child. We would camp out at that right corner after the straight at the pits. I witnessed a mustang rolling and watched the Vws rabbits hitting that right corner on 3 wheels, that fourth rear passenger wheel would lock up and be 2 feet in the air. I was a kid where I would ride my bmx bike around the entire track after races with no hands for fun. Great car and thanks for the memories.

Yea it's a great track.. Granulated they could use more barriers and run off.. I've taken video there. Been going there for 10+ years.. Fast track, they also have the more technical Shenandoah track and smaller Jefferson circuit. All separate. Pretty cool place :)

Having owned a non performance pack equipped MK7 and currently owning a performance pack equipped MK7, the LSD itself is so worth it and you also get golf r brakes along with more power and a thicker rear sway bar on DCC equipped models. There’s a reason why the performance pack is standard on the SE and Autobahn trims on 2016+ models, DCC is fantastic as well. I threw a tune and some other stuff on my DCC equipped 2016 Autobahn and it feels how it should’ve came from the factory. Fun and practicality is possible.

Hello Matt, did you detect any clutch slippage when stepping into the gas (assuming in manual mode)? Typically the DSG box slips for a moment when unleashing 500Nm (~365 lbft)

+Revs Brakes vs an LSD, that's a big difference in terms of labor spent accomplishing the end results. For an LSD, you're talking about pulling the motor, de-mating the gearbox, opening the gearbox, and swapping the diff out, many many many hours of labor and gasket kits. Brakes..... are brakes. If it were me, I'd go brakes before LSD... but given I was just whining about this exact issue in my TDI Saturday while jamming around some local hairpins.... argh...... the solo patch on throttle mash is pretty lame sauce.

320-390whp is the sweet spot for me in a FWD car. You will still fight traction a little. But with the right mods and throttle management. Becomes almost a non issue. My MKVII is only sitting at 304whp atm being Stage 2. Looking to go IS38 w/ WMI this summer.

The APR tune on my mk7 GTI is pushing about 300 hp and 335 lb feet tq. I am able to spin it on a dry road very easily at 50 when I punch the gas, though am on all-seasons. It has enough power to pin you to the seat. All with a 700$ tune.

Got a Revo Stage 1 on my PP GTI, with 300-320 bhp. Even with an LSD, you still have to be patient picking up the throttle. Going wide open in 2nd gear with the traction off will result in fairly wild torque steer (on stock rubber). With another 100 bhp on top of that, it's getting just a bit silly. I've been considering stage 2 and 3 options but this video just confirms I'd be better off with a Golf R or Audi S1.

+TheRichieRozay The only problem of the manual is 1-2-3 are long... Besides going stage 1 and beyond you would need a clutch. It is good but the DSG shift faster, downshift faster, easier to drive on heavy traffic... Etc. The manual i think because of the gearing has 1 or 2 mpg more on the highway... I drive 90% in the city with heavy traffic... I love manual but where i live there is a lot of uphill. When you stop on the middle of the uphill with heavy traffic it sucks... Only that time i have complain of driving manual sometimes but still is so much easier DSG.

@@WalshyRT IS38 is a Golf R turbo. The R's EA888 Gen 3 engine has a few other small tweeks from factory other than the larger IS38. But the reason why a Stage 2 R looses to a same turbo GTI counterpart is because the R is heavier and has drivetrain loss with it's AWD. This isn't to say the R sucks either. I love the R and I even tried buying one before getting my MK7 GTI. An APR EFR Stage 3+ R vs EFR 3+ GTI. R would win as the GTI would struggle with the 500whp. But these are builds that are few and far in between. IS38 GTI builds are the ultimate daily that you can take to the track and break some hearts and bruise some egos with.

Subjective Having driven several IS38 MKVII's. Both non PP and PP variants. They are MORE than capable of being a solid and refined experience. Makes me excited to take my Stage 2 MKVII to IS38. I have a WMI kit on my MKV that I'll be swapping over to it as well. Nothing wrong with keeping it stock. Still a fun and well natured chassis. But tuned, these become absolute monsters. And with any car. Seat time is what matters most. The more you drive and learn your car and it's limits. You can turn the most uncivilized chassis into a well understood and predictable machine.
