I have a new project a 375-06 ai. I plan to fire form out of new 35 Whalen brass, Thanks for the video. I bought the 375-06 ai. and a 358 Win. off the same person, then I built a 35 Whelen they are all 3 on Mauser actions nothing real fancy just good hunting rifles. I would like to build a 400 Whelen so I would have all three large bore Whelen rifles. My favorite is the 35 Whelen.

It is hard to beat the .35 for versatility. Lots of component options and adequate ballistics to reach out and get things done a lot further than many folks think. I will always have at least one .35 Whelen in my safe. The .375-06 AI would be a fun one too!

+ Do you think it’s possible to do a build on a .416 barrel to make a 416-06? Or is .411 max for case wall straightness? Nice videos on the .411 project by the way 👍🏻

I have heard if it being done. The .400 has a .458” shoulder. Have seen some wildcats with a .462” shoulder. If going .416-06 I would want as much shoulder as possible. Almost no taper left in the case at .462 so May have extraction problems. My personal .416 will be a .416 Taylor to take advantage of the larger .338 and/or .458 WM cases.

I KNEW it was possible! Now we have 25-06 30-06 35-06 and 40-06. The full spectrum of cartridges from one brass. (20-06 anyone?)

technically, it was created by necking DOWN cylindrical basic brass. Necking up from 30-06 without the proper steps is what created the head space myth

The speed you are getting is really good because I own a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser then reload all the ammo for it so I know the speeds of all my reloads from owning 2 Chronographs. I can compare my 9.3x62 Mauser loads using the Barns TSX 286 grain bullets to the load FPS you quoted which is really good. I have guided AK brown bear hunts for 26 years where I was using a 338-win mag then I bought the 9.3x62 Mauser that seems to do better on large & dangerous game than the 338-win mag when my shooting isn't very far. The 338 -win mag takes over on shots over 250 yards then maintains a great advantage over the 9.3x62 Mauser. What the 9.3x62 Mauser shines on is the heavy 36 cal 366" bullets from 286 grain - 325 grain bullets used when search up brown bear blood trails then it becomes a life-or-death ambush attack by the bear that was lying in wait for me. The larger bullets always kill faster and if a slight off the shot was made still the larger bullets cause so much internal organ & muscle + bone destruction the bears drop then are immobilized or die from the bullet hit! I have been the guide with many clients when bears got hit then all turned to shit, and our lives became endangered then what saved us was a large caliber rifle with High energy to put down the bear for good. I also build custom AR 10 uppers like in 6mm-284 win / 6.5 - 284 Norma - 35-284 win / 35-300 WSM / 375 - 300 WSM to get the AR 10 to match the power of the 375 H&H magnum using commercial loaded ammo. I am using Pac nor Barrels for all AR 10 projects. I will be doing the next Yukon Moose & Brown bear hunts with an AR 10 chambered in 375-300 WSM and the barrel is a Pac Nor barrel Jay from Pac Nor worked with me to get machined to my needs. Without looking sounds similar to a 405 Winchester ballistics.

It can certainly be loaded down to .405 ballistics but the .400 operates at higher pressures and can best it pretty handily across all bullet weights.
